The East rises from the Atlantic coastal plains and includes the Appalachian Mountains.     2.THEINTERIOR PLAINS

    4.HAWAII AND ALASKA
    EAST
    1. The Eastern united states rises from the costal: The Appalachian
    Mountains (6,684 ft)
    2. The Appalachian includes mountain ranges and river valleys
    from Maine to Alabama
    3. At the Foot of the Appalachian , between the mountains coastal
    plains, is the piedmont (is a region of plains begins in New
    Jersey and extends far south).
    4. The Eastern united states is close to the sea level and it rises
    gradually inland.
    5. The coastal Plain stretches from New York to Mexico along the
    Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico.
    INTERIOR PLAINS
    1. Vast Plains make up most of the united west of the Appalachians.
    This region is called the Interior Plains
    2. The Interior Plains stretch westward to the rocky mountains.
    3. The Interior Plains has great lakes from west
    a. Lake Superior
    b. Lake Michigan
    c. Lake Huro-Erie
    d. Lake Ontario
    4. The Mississippi river and its tributaries ( a stream or river that flows

    into a larger stream) drain the interior


    a. Missouri River
    b. Ohio River
    5. The Flattest part of the Interior Plains is the Great plains regions and
    it extends from Mexico in the south into Canada in the North
    WEST
    1. The series of mountain ranges separated from high plains and
    valleys and is extended from Mexico to the cold Arctic.

    2. Running along the crest of the Rockies is the Continental


    Divide.
    a. Missouri flows eastwards
    b. Columbia flows westwards

    3. West of the Rocky is the region of plateau and basin (region


    surrounded by higher lands such as mountains)
    Example – Nivada and Utah

    4. South West of the basin is the Colorado Plateau ( Colorado


    Plateau lies Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona)
    HAWAII and ALASKA
    1. The Hawaiian Islands were formed by canoes that have risen
    from the floor of the Pacific Ocean.
    Example: Aleutian Islands.

    2. Southeastern and south- central Alaska has the highest


    mountain in North America.
    Example : Mount McKinley (20,320 FT)
