Integrative art refers to interdisciplinary


art, art study, development, production,
display, or creative creation of work that
makes full use of two or more disciplines of
art to produce a work for a particular
public.

Artist- is one who professes and practices an imaginative art.

The Filipino Artists’ Role is four-fold:


1. The Personal
2. The Social
3. The Physical
4. The Immaterial
The Filipino Artists’ Role is four-fold:

1. The Personal- the artist expresses what he/she feels.

2. The Social- the artist expresses what he/she sees around him/her.

3. The Physical- the artist finds a need to create something not only pleasing
to look at but something as useful as well.

4. The Immaterial- the artist gives form to the immaterial, the hidden truth of
the universe, and the spiritual force that inhabits the world.
Role of Contemporary Artists:

-The Filipino artist gives his opinion about the culture in his time.

- The Filipino artist is a crusader, attempting to sway the viewer to his/her


side.

- The Filipino artist has become a social critic.

- The Filipino artist has also become an advocate for what he/she believes in.

- The Filipino artist is versatile.


The Filipina Artist
Before the Philippine Contemporary Art Era, only a
few notable women were able to find access into the world
of arts.
But things have changed in the Philippine
Contemporary Art Era as many women paved the way for
others to assert their own identity and contribute in social
realism.
Women artists have become visible of the initial steps
of three women graphic artist in the 1970s and 1980s.
The Filipina Artist

Imelda Cajipe- Endaya Brenda V. Fajardo Ofelia Gelvezon- Tequi


The Filipina Artist

They have entered the art scene and changed the


landscape from then on. They have started as printmakers but later
evolved their own genres, except for France-based Gelvezon-Tequi,
who remained as a printmaker and a painter. Her latest works are a
series of Philippine.
These women artists paved the way for others to assert
their won identity. Others soon followed: sculptors Agnes Arellano,
Julie Lluch, Genera Banzon, Francesca Enriquez, and many more.
The Filipina Artist

In the late 1980s, Fajardo and Endaya, together


with Ana Fer, Julie Lluch, and Ida Bugayong, founded
KASIBULAN (Kababaihan sa Sining at Bagong Sibol na
Kamalayan), a group was to pursue women’s agenda.
KASIBULAN addressed women’s issues in culture and the
arts. It had a message and a heritage to share. It manifested
these issues through art. Among the members were Lia
Torralba, Alma Quinto, June Dalisay, Vivien Limpin, and Tala
Isla Contreras. Membership has spread since then.
NATIONAL ARTIST OF THE PHILIPPINES

ORDER OF THE NATIONAL ARTIST- it has been established


by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 1001 ‘s. 1972.
NATIONAL ARTIST OF THE PHILIPPINES

The Order of National Artists is the highest award conferred


by the President of the Philippines to the nation’s artists.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A NATIONAL ARTIST?

1. Living artists who have been a Filipino citizens for the last ten
years prior to nomination as well as those who have died after
establishment of the award in 1972 but were Filipino citizens
at the time of their death;

2. Artists who have helped build a Filipino sense of nationhood


through the content and form of their works;
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A NATIONAL ARTIST?

3. Artists who have distinguished themselves by


pioneering in a mode of creative expression or style,
making an impact on succeeding generations of artists;

4. Artists who have created a significant body of works


and/or have consistently displayed excellence in the
practice of their art form, enriching artistic or style.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A NATIONAL ARTIST?

5. Artists who have enjoy broad acceptance through


prestigious national and/or international
recognition, awards in prestigious national and/or
international events, critical acclaim and/or reviews
of their works, and/or respect and esteem from
peers within an artistic discipline.
Process of Nomination and Confernment
BENEFITS IF BEING A NATIONAL ARTIST:

1. The rank and title of National Artist, a


proclaimed by the President of the
Philippines.

2. The INSIGNIA of a National Artist and a


CITATION.
BENEFITS IF BEING A NATIONAL ARTIST:

3. A lifetime emolument and material and physical benefits comparable in value to


those received by the highest officers of the land such as:
a. a cash award of one hundred thousand pesos net of taxes, for living
awardees;
b. a cash award of seventy-five thousand pesos net of taxes, for
posthumous awardees, payable to legal heir/s;
c. a monthly life pension, medical and hospitalization benefits;
d. life insurance coverage for Awardees who are still insurable;
e. a state funeral and burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani;
f. a place of honor, in line with protocolar precedence, at national state
functions, and recognition at cultural events;
