Chassis, general
For these reasons UD offers
complete chassis solutions in the
Quester series.

1. The extensive range of chassis

types and variants ensure that
there is a vehicle available to suit
most applications.
2. The truck frame can be
considered as the ―Backbone‖ of
the truck.
3. All components are either directly
or indirectly attached to maintain
alignment and relative position.

Chassis damage
The majority of chassis problems
that can be caused by the body are
due to:
• Too high stress
• Stress concentrations
• reinforcement selection incorrect
• Incorrect selection of chassis

NOTE:
It is strictly forbidden to undo riveted
joints that attach and align the suspension
and axles on the chassis for the purpose of
using these joints elsewhere, such as fitting
the lower parts of brackets to the
superstructure, etc.

Forbidden and restriction

Note!
• Alteration of rear frame lenght
(RFL) not allowed without
approval from Principal (PTVI)
• No repaint of chassis.
Subframe and body shall be
painted prior assembly on
truck
Clamps to be avoided

Hole stress concentration

Avoid hole stress concentrations by :

• Utilising the pre-punched hole patterns where possible
• Never drilling in the flanges
• Observing hole spacing requirements
• Welding up holes if the hole inter-distance is too small
• Keeping extra holes to an absolute minimum

Sub--frame/helper frame
Sub
Sub/helper frame
How an IDEAL sub
sub--frame and
helper frame should look like:
• Tapered at front lower radius R=5
• Crossmembers are required
• Position crossmembers above f ig . 1

chassis crossmembers
• Crossmembers to a similar section
and dimension to side members h

• Use open ―U‖ section 3h

• For severe conditions avoid welded

joints unless post weld treatments
are used
• Smooth transition between
sections

• diagonal reinforcement (in chassis

or sub-frame)
• anti-roll bar
• stiff suspension type
• tipping stabiliser
NOTE: 0-200

Sub-frame attachment should be as

for standard platform.
