 The focus of the K-12 Art curriculum is Philippine art, culture and heritage. The
lessons and activities guide educators and provide our students with art
experiences, concepts, and processes. They are presented in a spiral progression
of difficulty and depth from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
 The approach is child-centered and hands-on, with art made from materials found
locally. It fosters the student's imagination and individual expression, as well as
his/her critical thinking abilities, by inquiring into the aesthetic qualities of his
own work, the work of others, and artists from the Philippines and other parts of
the world. It culminates in the connection of art to other subject areas, as well as
exposure and apprenticeship to professionals in various art-related fields,
allowing the student to discover and consider the various career opportunities in
art.
 In Learner-centered instruction, the learner is the primary consideration in the
selection of teaching method and technique – his/her nature, innate faculties or
abilities, developmental stage, multiple intelligence, learning styles, needs
concerns, interests, feelings, home and educational back ground.
 Teaching is the teaching of the arts with the goal of helping students value
diversity and equity. You use a teaching method that is based on respect for
cultural diversity. See all learners as unique individuals and accept that their
diverse cultural experiences, beliefs, values, and language influence how they
think.
 An integrative approach can be intradisciplinary, interdisciplinary or
transdisciplinary. Transdisciplinary is the integration of your lessons with real life
situations. Integrative is when traditionally separate subjects are brought together
so that learners can grasp a more authentic understanding of the subject. Localize
or indigenize or localize your lessons.
 Spiral Progression is an approach to teaching that develops the same concepts
from one grade level to the next in increasing complexity. It is revisiting concepts
at each grade level with increasing depth. This enables learners to explore
connections among the different lessons and bring them closer together.
