Activity1. Let’s check your understanding on the topic discussed. Answer the
following questions below.
PART I. Read the sentences carefully and write the correct answer on the space
provided.

Termination 1. This refers to ending the conversation.


Topic Shifting 2. It refers to changing the topic of conversation.
Topic Control 3. This is a communication strategy in which the speaker proposes a
topic or issue that both participants wants to talk about.
Repair 4. This refers to the correction of an utterance that is misunderstood.
Restriction 5. It means regulating the topic of conversation and how long we want
other person may talk.

PART II. Identify what communication strategy is being used.


Nomination 1. How about discussing religious belief?
Topic Shifting 2. By the way, do you have your twitter account?
Restriction 3. No, I don't mean that. I simply mean that I have no interest in that
part of the world.
Topic Control 4. Could you focus on the causes and effects of bullying?

Activity 1. Let’s check your understanding of the lesson discussed and answer the
following questions below:
1. How can the change in communicative strategy in a conversation affect the quality
of interaction, the speaker-audience relationship, the role and responsibilities of
the speaker, the message, and the delivery?

Communication is a significant form of intercating with other people, Communicative


strategies are studied and made to make communicating much simple and
understandable. The change in communicative strategy during a conversation affects
the senders and the receiver, it affects the quality of interaction and makes it much
exquisite and changing it also affects how you want the conversation to go or end. It
can have a good or bad effect on the conversation depends on how you would change
it.

Activity 1. Choose only 5 among the 7 communicative strategies and create a short
dialogue each. (Nomination, Restriction, Turn-Taking, Topic Control, Topic Shifting,
Repair, Termination)

Example:
1. Nomination
Jane: Hey Eyre, have you seen the new series on Netflix?
Eyre: New series you say? What’s the title?
Jane: The title of the series is “Away” you should watch it.
Eyre: Okay thanks for that Jane.

Jan: Please define each of the 8 communicative strategies.


Rolly: Pardon sir, but there is actually only 7 communicative strategies.

2. Nomination

Michelle: Hey, you wanna come to my place and watch movies?


Rolly: Oh yeah? What movie?
Michelle: Oh it’s called the squid game.
Rolly: Alright sure! I’ll catch up with you later.

3. Restriction

Justine: Good afternoon everyone, I’ll start discussing ou topic for about 2hours
You guys have to listen alright?
Mark: But sir, It’s 3pm and the end of class is 4, so you actually only have an
Hour to discuss.
Justine: Alright.

Dee: Thank you for listening guys!
