Rationale:
Speaking, reading, writing and numeracy are among the most important skills children learn. Reading, either independently or through shared reading,
helps children to develop their imagination, enhance creativity, strengthen oral language development and communicate more effectively. In line with
this the Department of Education come up with this Early Language, Literacy and numeracy Program (ELLN).

ELLN Digital is a blended course on early language, literacy, and numeracy instruction for Kindergarten to Grade 3 (K-3) teachers in the
Philippines. The course is a teacher professional development (TPD) initiative in support of the Department of Education’s Early Language,
Literacy, and Numeracy (ELLN) program under the Every Child a Reader Program (ECARP). ELLN Digital consists of 15 lessons grouped into five
modules. The main components of this ELLN Digital course are self-study of an interactive multimedia courseware and collaborative learning
in school-based Learning Action Cells (LACs).

ELLN Digital course is a self-learning lessons in the courseware and assignments should be completed the teacher themselves, they have the
opportunity to engage in collaborative learning with their colleagues who are also enrolled in the ELLN Digital course. This collaborative learning shall
take place through ELLN LACs that the teachers will constitute at the start of the course. ELLN LACs is a school –based communities of practice that
are positive, caring and safe spaces where the conduct of LACs is based on DepEd Order No. 35, s.2016. The teacher participants are given
opportunity to engage in collaborative, learning through school –based Learning Action Cells. To make the ELLN LACs manageable, it is
recommended that each LAC have 5-15 members only.

Program Objectives:
After completing the course, the teachers should be able to:
1. explain the principles of early language, literacy, and numeracy development and instruction :

3. plan and implement balanced literacy and numeracy instruction for K-3 learners.

Expected Final Outcomes/ Success Indicators
Achieving these course objectives should enable you to develop reading and writing skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in
K-3 learners. The teachers will be able to apply and internalized their abilities for the improvement of their teaching skills using different
strategies /techniques that is suited to the needs of the pupils. The quality of professional learning and subsequent developments in teachers’ capability will
contribute to the improved outcomes for pupils’ performance.

III.RATIONALE:
The DepEd (DO) no. 35, s. 2016 defines a LAC as “ a group of teachers who engaged in collaborative learning sessions to solve shared challenges encountered in the school, facilitated by the school head
or a designed LAC Leader. LACs a r e school-based communities of practice that active, caring, and safe spaces.”The SCHOOL-BASED LAC SESSION ON ELLN aims to improve the teaching-learning
process to improve learning among students, nurture successful teachers,enable teacher’s supports each other to continuously improve their content and
pedagogical knowledge, practice, skills, and attitudes, foster a professionalcollaborative spirit among school heads, teachers, and the community as a whole.

IV. Objectives
 Objectives of this School-Based LAC Session on ELLN are as follows:
1. Familiarize the k-3 teachers with the reading materials that fit to the pupil’s interests and need to develop the reading ability of pupils
2.Talk about the early literacy instructions and share their techniques on how they teach young learners and develop literacy skills.
