Whales

Most people think they know what a whale is. It’s one of those enormous animals that
cruise the ocean . It is even bigger than the great dinosaurs of long ago. Whales are close
relatives of dolphins and porpoises.
They live in cold water, they have a thick layer of fat under their skin. This fat which is
called blubber protects the animal from the cold. Though whales live in water, they are not
fish. Whales are mammals. They have lungs through which they breathe. A whale comes
to the surface to breathe. It blows the old air from its lungs out of a hole on the top of its
head. Whales are warm blooded. Even if the temperature outside is very cold or hot, their
body temperature remains steady. Whales have hair all over their bodies though not much.
Mother whales feed their babies with milk from their own. Whales are very sociable
animals. They talk with others by making different sounds. They make clicks, whistles,
squeaks, thumps and even low moans. Because sound waves travel well in water, the
songs of whales can be heard more than a hundred miles away.
The word probably comes from some ancient European language and originally meant
big ocean fish. But in recent centuries, biologists have pointed out that whales aren’t fish.

How to Make Your Own Backyard Garden

By: Kristina Rose N. Caraoa

Making your own garden takes significant

planning. Before you begin, you will need
to make some important decisions about what type of garden you want, where you
want it, and how much time you have to dedicate to its care and maintenance. Once
planned and made, your garden will be a source of beauty that can last for many
years.
The first item you must consider is what type of garden you want. Do you want herb and
vegetable gardens? Many people like to grow herb and vegetable gardens to have
ingredients on hand. The herb could be used in making medicine and cooking
ingredients. Growing your own herbs will ensure that you will have fresh ingredients to
use in cooking.

You may also have a succulent garden. Garden succulents are freshly plants that store
water in leaves and stems, so you don’t need to water them daily. Succulents do best in
sun; many will get leggy and weak without at least six hours of sun daily. Some get more
colorful and produce better flower in eight or more hours of direct sun.
Maybe a flower garden will beautify your home and create a warmer and more
welcoming vibe. It let people know that you take pride in your home and your community.
Next, you should think about where you want to place your garden. Do you have a large
or small yard? Will your garden be the focal point of your yard or do you want to place it
in a corner where it will be just a corner for plants? Your garden should fit the design of
your yard, so look around at the design of your space. Ask yourself how your garden will
fit in with the space of your backyard.
Finally, before making your own garden, you need to decide how much time you have to
care for it. Maintaining a garden involves cleaning, watering, and using the correct
products to maintain the health of the plants (if any). This maintenance can require a
good amount of work, but if you know in advance what you want, you can create the best
garden for you.
Garden make a wonderful addition to your home. It can create a peaceful place. Get
started planning your own garden retreat today!

Thesis statement: Backyard gardening can let your personality ang imagination shine
through. It is not just merely planting, with some designing skills and
the right choice of plant , you can turn your backyard into an enjoyable
place to relax.

LET’S TRY AGAIN topic outline. Be guided with the format of a
topic outline and the rubric below.

Many people don’t know the difference between a patent and a trademark. However the
terms trademark and patent aren't synonyms, they refer to different things. Granted for
a specific number of years, a patent protects both the name of a product and its method
of manufacture. In 1928, for example, Jacob Schick invented and then patented the
electric razor in an effort to maintain complete control of his creation. Similarly, between
1895 and 1912, no one but the Shredded Wheat company was allowed to make
shredded wheat because the company had the patent. A trademark is a name, symbol,
or other device that identifies a product and makes it memorable in the minds of
consumers. Kleenex, JELL-O, and Xerox are all examples of trademarks. Aware of the
power that trademarks possess, companies fight to protect them. They do not allow
anyone else to use one without permission. Occasionally, though, a company gets
careless and loses control of a trademark. Aspirin, for example, is no longer considered
a trademark, and any company can call a pain-reducing tablet an aspirin.
