Storytelling happens in many situations, from
kitchen-table conversation to religious ritual,

performances for thousands of paying
listeners. Some storytelling situations
demand informality; others are highly formal.

Public Narrative
Marshal Ganz
- Senior Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard University in
leadership, organization and civil society;

- trainer and organizer for political campaigns, unions and


nonprofit groups;

- he created very successful model of training for Barack


Obama’s winning 2008 presidential campaign

Marshall Ganz developed Public Narrative as a way of


bringing people together
and motivating action through narrative.

He recognised that stories are the


natural way in which we make sense of the world.
What the public
narrative is about?
- storytelling methodology
- how we turn values into action
-- the discursive process by which individuals,
communities, and nations construct identity, formulate
choices and motivate action
- the leadership art
- shows that stories not only teach us how to act – they
inspire us to act
- that way how to express our values through the
language of the heart and emotions
- the stories have a power to move others.
