1. Difficult Concepts
i. Economic Liberalization
ii. the suggestion that we should ‘conceive of globalizations in the plural”
iii. how the converging of institutions work and benefit the countries
2. Insights
Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I thought that globalization can be
simply explained as a process that all countries practice to achieve certain goals which
concern progress and technology. However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I
now think/realize that the scope of the term globalization is much more broad and complex
than what I know. Since there are various phenomena associated with it, the concept of
globalization requires a deeper understanding. Therefore, a thorough study or reading is a
must since the article only mentioned a gist of the topic.
Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I already know that any kind of
change has its pros and cons. Changes are made so things will improve but there will always
be flaws present. It is stated in the article how there are debates about this phenomenon
wherein analysts present the positive and negative effects of this movement. As a citizen of a
country that struggles to keep up with the fast-paced progress of the developed countries, I
can’t help but frown upon the idea of globalization. However, reading the
article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that it is a good idea to motivate other
countries to keep up and not settle for less. The only downside is that the government can be
too keen on following the footsteps of the developed countries that they fail to see it’s taking
a toll on the people.
Before reading the article/understanding the lesson, I already know as well the
competition in the industry is very tough and it will be tougher as time goes by. A
background knowledge is not enough, one must have the skills and the experience. The world
demands nothing less than perfection from its people and we must always step up our game.
Nonstop learning and complying to the standards are essential to survive and make a mark in
the industry. However, reading the article/understanding the lesson, I now think/realize that it
is also important to keep in mind the consequences of our actions and decisions.
The concept of globalization is a good move to strive for greatness, but we must know
when to slow down. We should be aware of when to let go of our greed for change because
there are things that we cannot go back to. Just like in our country where instead of building
and building and building, we should do something about our failing system first. This is not
a race. It’s more like a group work that needs everybody’s cooperation. No need to rush since
the goal is to achieve the given task.
3. Questions
I. It is said that globalization is also the process of converging institutions or countries. How do we know
that it will benefit both parties since there are countries who still struggle to keep up with the developed
ones?
II. Instead of opting to achieve the ultimate goal of globalization, why can’t we focus more on balancing
income and labor forces of the countries?
III. How does globalization affect the lives and the principles of the people all over the world? Instead of
promoting peace and harmony, doesn’t it encourage a less-friendly society where everything is a
competition?
