1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The XJ500 is a monitoring system which is specific for the control of all data, alarms and the functioning status of
refrigeration plants, in food preparation and food conservation processes and also in distribution.
This device can communicate with all the Dixell instruments with serial port both DixBUS and ModBUS protocol
communication.
THE APPLICATION
The main characteristic of the XJ500 is that the same unit can work as a “Stand alone system” or be connected to a Personal
Computer so it can be easily installed both in small shops and big markets.
Typical applications are: food plants, for medical use (blood banks, medicine stores, etc), industrial processes,
supermarkets, cold rooms, catering, fast food or normal restaurants, gasoline stations and convenience stores.
THE DATA
The XJ500 unit receives input data coming from Dixell instruments provided with serial output. For each instrument the
monitoring program allows the reading and storage the following information: probe values, alarm and functioning status. It
can be interfaced to refrigeration instruments, step controllers, temperature humidity and pressure units with Dixell serial
output.
THE RECORDING
Basically the XJ500 was created to record room temperature, alarm status and functioning status of instruments connected to
RS485 line for a year with a sampling time of 15 minutes in order to comply with the European Community standards for food
controlling processes 89/108 CEE, 92/1 CEE, 92/2 CEE and 93/43 CEE.
The unit can also manage other signals like “Bar” or “Psi” for pressure or “Rh” and any other unit of measurements interfaced
through 4/20mA signals.
THE ALARMS
The XJ manages the “General alarms” defined as probe failure, high and low alarms, digital input activation and the “System
alarms” defined as data memory overflow, “no link” with an instrument, “no link” with the RS485 and “no link” with the printer.
When an alarm condition is detected, the unit can manage the local print and the fax messages.
PRINT
The temperature and alarm reports can be printed by enabling either the Automatic print or the Manual print. The printed
report shows the temperatures, the interval time of the sampling and the alarms. The special HACCP function allows the user
to print automatically, at a desired interval of time, the instant measured temperature.
THE FAX/MODEM
XJ500 Automatically sends fax or SMS messages in case of alarm situations to a service centre or to a selected telephone
number. A list of 15 numbers is programmable by the User.
THE INTERACTIVE FUNCTIONS
The XJ500 is provided with manual and time-based procedures to manage the synchronised defrost of instruments and
execute daily or weekly cycles with the auxiliary relays such as the blind and the light controls. The programming timers of
each auxiliary relay and defrost, allow the User to set 90 steps made of on/off operations, 1 operation every 10 minutes.
THE SYSTEM PROTECTIONS
Access to programming can be protected by activating one of the four available passwords
DATA RECORDING
Through the RS485 line, the information coming from DIXELL instruments are collected by the XJ500 unit, which logs them.
For each instrument, the User can decide what data has to be stored, such as:
probe values, probe failure, high and low alarms and output status (defrost, comp. status etc.).
The recording flow is a FIFO format (First In, First out) into a Flash memory that ensures a high speed and big data capacity.
Before reaching maximum storage space, the XJ500 actives alarm signals. In this case the data should be Down-loaded so it
is saved.
THE PACKAGING
Inside the packaging you will find:
1) the XJ500 unit.
2) the instruction manual.
3) 3 disks with the “XVIEW” software
OPTIONAL
You can require:
A) the LAP LINK cable for the connection to the Personal Computer (not suitable to connect the modem);
B) the printer XJ50PR with 40 columns;
C) the card memory of 8 Mb.
THE PRINTER
We suggest the use of a FX EPSON emulation, IMB emulation and HP emulation printers.
In this case close the Jumper inside the monitoring unit and set the end of the line with a jumper on the terminals 18 - 19.
These terminals are indicated on the label of XJRS485.
The jumper of the XJ500 must be removed, but to set the beginning and the end of the line it necessary to close the jumper
(terminals 18 - 19) of the first and the last instrument connected.
3) When the last instrument in the net is with built in RS485 with 2 cables (XR100, XJA, XJP etc.) if there are problems in the
serial communication it could be necessary to connect an 100ohm resistor in parallel to the serial line to keep balanced the
RS485.
Do not make loops in the connections
