Good day ! I will share to you on how to start and run a diaper business. This will be a
series for you to follow and hope can guide you along the way. Feel free to ask

1. Basic commodity
A baby will have an average of 3 years in using diapers. 5 pcs each day (or more) for
7 days a week/ 30 days a month /12 months a year. That’s roughly 40,000 pcs of
diapers a single baby will consume in 3 years.
a. All classes of consumer from Class A to D uses diapers. The difference only comes
from the consumers personal preference
b. Both gender of babies uses it ( boy or girl )
c. A general family has 2 – 6 children. Every child from age 1 to 3 uses diapers.
4. Volume
- Volume for diaper requirement are directly proportional to the population, Higher
the population , bigger the volume
5. Expansion potential
a. From the biggest distributor to the homebased moms.
b. Form the urban to the rural areas.
c. Wet markets, groceries sari- sari stores
6. Ease of handling
Diapers are light weight that makes it one of the reason it’s a easy business. Male
and female can handle it, older and younger ones as well.
7. Very good product mix – can sell with dry goods, baby products, laundry products
and even with the garment industry.

- For attachments Magic tape, Velcro, pull ups are use. Both magic tapes and Velcro
are quick to use. Velcro is a little bit expensive though.
-For textures of fabric , plastic and cloth like are the popular ones.
Some prefer plastic over cloth-like because it is cheaper and cooler to use
Those who use cloth-like feels like their babies are wearing a fabric and they say it
looks nicer.
Depending on the sensitivity of the skin of the baby allergies are avoided by using
which fabric fits the baby..

Distributors
- Normally they have both distribution and walk in stores such as groceries , dry
market and home base.
- Their radius applies within 1 -2 nearby neighborhood or provinces
- They cater to dealers and end users

Mark - ups – 3% to 25 % - You could see that profitability difference are big and this
varies base on levels and volume. Super distributors gets the least mark up but has
the biggest volume. Retailers has the biggest mark up but smaller volume.

Bundles -
- Are packed in opaque or translucent plastics. 180 pieces are contained in packs of
30 pieces.
- They are commonly sold in wet and dry market, sari sari store, drugstores and
home based business.
- They are cheaper than boxes because of its packing. The contents inside are the
same as in the boxes.
- This means that bundles of this kind with its equivalent boxes are not generic
diapers.

3. Loyalty - does not divulge information of their customers to other customers, ( such
as price and volume consume ).
6. Pricing - Should give competitive price for customers to have a good profitability
and competitiveness.

Things to consider in having multiple brands:
2. A dealer normally gets more discount on volume purchases, multiple brands make
volume more difficult.
5. There are two kinds on how to be more stable, be known for multiple brands or be
known carrying a few fixed brands.

Product mix with diapers – While diapers can me sold mix with almost all items ,
these are what works already in the market
- all baby items such as baby wipes, feeding bottles, cottons, baby oils
- Drugstores

A dealers normally expands quickly once they get the business going since the
operation is very simple. they branch out to different areas. Some dealers even have
3 -4 stores.

Expiration - on a normal condition 1 year is safe for diapers to still be effective. Some
factors that lessens its effectivity includes :

Data : Bundled diapers are the same as branded diapers. They are cheaper because :
1. They are packed in big bundles that minimizes the packaging cost.
2. They are sold mostly in wet/dry markets,homebased, retail stores which has
cheaper rental

Data : Did you know that by starting a dealership program that grows to a number in
different location, the dealer can be its own distributor and eventually distributes to
other dealers.
1. Make sure your gate , door entrance has a nice graphics ads that your selling
diapers. A 4 x 2 ft tarpaulin either horizontal or vertical is a good start. Be sure to
place the contact number and person.
2. Make leaftlets of products offered with pricelist and contact address,number and
person.
3. Distribute to your village, better also get survey if there are babies ( for retail
selling )
4. Distribute to other villages offering them to supply them for their own retail selling.
5. Make follow ups
