2-7. Solenoid valve unit

CAUTION!
• Since it is very dangerous, do not regulate the speed of the air cylinder when it is in
the automatic running state. Regulate the speed through manual operations.
• If the running speed of cylinder is excessively high, it can cause failures. So control
the cylinder speed and don’t let it run too fast. When the speed needs to be regulated,
the operator shall adjust it from a lower value to a higher value until it reaches the
proper speed.
• It is preferable not to use the button for manual operation at the solenoid valve. Use
the control box for related operations.
In case manual operation is needed, pay attention not to be entrapped into the
machine because the linked action of the cylinder will make the cables and air hoses
run at the same time.
• When the equipment is electrified or at a certain period after the power is turned
off, the temperature of the solenoid valve coil will be very high. So do not touch it
with hands so as to avoid injury.

POINT
Manual operation through the button at the solenoid valve must be done after the
power for the control box is turned off (OFF).
Note that the Forward and Return may not be done.

3 Maintenance and check

3 Maintenance and check

In order to ensure long service time of unloader and prevent mechanical faults, the unloader must be
checked regularly.

POINT
The pendant screen displays periodically the information of check list and oil supplying
by using the maintenance functions of the control box side. For details, refer to the
operation manual for control box (Technical Edition).

●Looseness of nuts and bolts

Loosened nuts and bolts caused by long-time violent impacting may be a main reason for damage to
the unloader.
·Tighten the mounting bolts of limit switches for vertical, crosswise, traverse and product
operations.
·Ensure the tightness of the terminals in the terminal box at the relay position between the carriage
unit and the control box.
·Ensure the tightness of each stopper.
·Check to see if any bolt has fallen off so as to avoid damages to the machine.
●Oil supplying for each friction part
Refer to the Oil-supplying Diagram on the next page and add grease regularly.
●Dirt on the surfaces of LM guide and traverse rail
Scars and dust caused by grease and other dirt on the surfaces of vertical and crosswise LM guides
and the LM guide for horizontal traverse on the traverse rail will prevent smooth running of the
equipment. Thus they should be removed periodically. In addition, if the surface of LM guide has
scars or any other damage caused by striking or colliding, the guide should be replaced with a new
one.
●Damage on the air hose
Damages on the air hose caused by bending will result in abnormal air pressure (flow). If air leakage
occurs at the connector, air hose or other pipes, they should be replaced immediately.
●Consumable parts and semi-consumable parts
● Consumable parts and semi-consumable parts
Refer to the list of consumable parts for regular check and replacement.

◇ OPERATION
During SUCTION = Solenoid valve is in de-energized
condition.
• Pressure air that is supplied by 2-port solenoid valve
passes through ejector section (6) with high speed. At
this time, ejector sucks air in circuit of VACUUM
port to generate vacuum condition.
• Generated vacuum degree adjusting screw (9) can
adjust air amount sucked by the ejector section (6).
This screw can make the change range of generated
vacuum degree bigger, so as to distinct the judgments
Note: Vacuum switch, which is not being
between complete sucking and incomplete sucking at constructed to TACOVAM, is contained into the
sucker pad. package of TACOVAM, at shipment.
• A filter element (7) is installed in suction line in order
to prevent the entering of dust and contaminants which come from the VACUUM port.
Element (7) is useful to protect the performance of the ejector and the generated vacuum
adjusting screw.
• Silencer element (8) decreases exhaust noise generated by pressure air exited from the
ejector.
• When vacuum degree is increased up to set operation pressure (-**kPa, setting by
machine maker) for the vacuum switch, electrical signal is issued.

At RELEASING =Solenoid valve is in energized condition.

• Air supply to the ejector is stopped by shift of solenoid valve. So the generation of vacuum is
stopped and pressure in VACUUM port becomes atmospheric pressure.

◇ CHARCTERISTICS CURVE

◇ HANDLING
INSTALLATION
• Install the TACOVAM vacuum generation unit with vertical position.
• Enough space for maintenance and inspection should be considered.
• Piping connected to the unit should be flushed with compressed air before installation.
• Sealing material and seal tape should be used at a minimum in order to avoid entering them
into inside of the unit.
• Supply clean compressed air, which is 0.35 to 0.50 MPa, to AIR IN port.

TACO CO.,LTD. 2
• Supply air should be cleaned and regulated by general filter unit and regulator unit. Don’t
use lubricator upstream to the vacuum generation unit.

ATTENTION on PIPING
Air Supply Side Piping
• Piping for air supply side should be large
enough in order to avoid pressure drop. Take
care not to use connectors restricting flow.
• Pressure decrease of supply air may cause
lowering vacuum degree. Maintain the
pressure drop as minimum as possible.
Vacuum Side Piping
• Large sized piping is also recommended to
the vacuum side. If small piping is used, the
troubles, with incomplete suction by weak
vacuum or with time delay by a little amount
suction flow, may happen due to flow restriction of piping.
• Piping length should be as short as possible. Spiral piping and long winding piping should be
avoided.
• In case to use plastic tubing, use rigid type tubing to avoid crushing easily by atmospheric
pressure when vacuum degree is built up inside of tubing highly.

ELECTRICAL WIRING
• Rated supply voltage of 2-port solenoid valve is DC24V, for supplying pressure air to the
ejector. Confirm supply voltage is correct before performing electrical wiring.
2-Port Solenoid Valve is a normally open type.
• Energizing solenoid (ON) stops air supplying to the ejector. De-energizing solenoid (OFF)
supplies air to the ejector section which generates vacuum.

ADJUSTMENT of Vacuum Degree

Vacuum degree adjusting screw; can adjust suction flow amount through VACUUM port.
Turn anticlockwise ⇒ increases suction flow ⇒ increases vacuum degree
Turn clockwise ⇒ decreases suction flow ⇒ decreases vacuum degree
NOTE: Lock the adjusting screw tightly with lock nut after adjustment is completed.

Vacuum Pressure Switch with Indicator

• Take care not to apply unreasonable tension force
to the leads of vacuum switch.
• For details of handling of the vacuum pressure
switch with indicator, refer to instruction manual
enclosed in package of the vacuum pressure
switch with indicator.

TACO CO.,LTD. 3
MAINTENANCE
• Filter element (7):
The dust and contaminants, which adhere to the work object and exist in surroundings, are
gradually accumulated at this filter element by suction operation. Periodical replacement is
required as the clogged filter element causes decrease of suction efficiency.
• Piping of the vacuum port:
Inspect the piping, tubing and sucker pad for the system. Inferiors and damaged should be
replaced.
• Disassembling and reassembling should be done with preparation of the assembly drawing in
advance.
Power supply and air supply should be removed
before disassembling.
