ASI, ROSE ANN BALMES

BASED MATH 1101

A. Reflect on the presented article “The Physical Self” in Week 6, answer the
question. Express your thoughts in 5-10 sentences.
QUESTION!
1. On what perspective of Understanding the Physical Self do you think is most
influential to your life? Give concrete examples
 The Psychodynamic perspective in Understanding the Physical Self is the
most influential to my life. It is said to be that body and mental
representations form the basis of sense of self. For example, when I was
an infant, I don’t have care in my body, I just live and enjoy my life as a
baby without an awareness in my surroundings. However, as I grow, my
body and my perceptions are changing and makes me have a cohesion to
my body. It greatly affects my behaviors in a way that I think neither
positively or negatively based on how I deal with my experiences in the
physical world. Another real life example of it was, others told me that I
have a good looking face but my height and shape of my body isn’t
compliment with it. I’m bullied many times especially in school. Because of
that, it makes me feel that I’m not belong or simply, I losses my confidence
to socialize with them. Through this, I become conscious to my myself or
in my body especially now that I am a teenager.

2. Which of factors that affect perception of the Physical Self would you say is
mostly used by teenagers in your age nowadays?
 For me, the social factors which affects the perception of the Physical self
was mostly used by teenagers nowadays. Due to modernization,
teenagers have the ability to socialize with other people in an easy yet
comprehensive way. For example, through the use of different platforms in
social media, communication exists and those who used those platforms
see each others virtually based on the posts of their pictures, videos,
memes and other information that can relatively defined one’s personality.
In line with the concept of factors affecting the perception of physical self,
social comparison also exists. For example, your friend got a greater
number of good reactions and comments in her profile picture compared
to you. In this case, you will have a comparison in your mind that she is
better than you, she is more beautiful than you or other people saw a
unique personality of her that made her advantages. Though we don’t
need to compare ourselves with other people, we can’t deny that we are
doing it especially in times of downs. Moreover, we have to accept
ourselves the way we have to, and think optimistically that we are very
unique in our own little way!
