The document provides information about natural skincare mixtures and recommendations. Key points include testing all mixtures on skin first, using high quality fresh ingredients, and that mixtures should be refrigerated for no more than a week.

The author recommends testing all mixtures on a patch of skin on the wrist before using, and to seek medical advice if experiencing any irritation or if having known allergies. If any burning or pain occurs, wash off immediately and consult a doctor.

Some hair care habits recommended include wrapping hair in a towel after washing to absorb moisture, using a wide tooth comb when wet and not brushing, letting hair dry naturally, and only styling when dry to avoid damage.

Simply Beautiful

A ll the mixtures I share in this book require little or no preparation;

all the ingredients are cheap and can easily be found in supermarkets
or health food stores. For best results always use high quality and fresh
ingredients.

Although these mixtures are natural and edible, in some people one or
more of the ingredients may cause irritation or an allergic reaction. I
recommend you test all mixtures on a patch of skin on your wrist before
using, or if you have known allergies associated with any of the food
groups, seek medical advice before using. With some of the ingredients
it is normal to notice a slight tingly feeling, however, if you experience
burning or pain of any kind, wash off immediately and consult your doctor
before re-applying. The advice within is intended for educational
purposes only and does not constitute medical advice.

As all the mixtures contain real foods free from chemicals or preservatives,
they are therefore perishable. Once prepared they must be kept covered
in the fridge, for a short time, dependent on the most perishable
ingredient, but no longer than one week. Do not use if mixture has
changed colour, smell or become rancid.

affect our health, such as pollution and radiation, which for the majority

are out of our immediate control. Two things that we do have full control
over are what we put in and on our body.

Due to the fact that we are completely covered by skin the condition of
our skin greatly affects our appearance. It can be said that beauty comes
in all shapes and sizes, but the one commonality is glowing healthy skin.
Vibrancy from within can’t help but be appealing.

Skin is the largest organ of the body. It protects us from, and connects us
to, the outside word. Amongst it’s many miraculous functions, skin acts to
regulate body temperature, produce vitamin D, provide a protective
barrier from the external environment, excrete toxins, and provide
feedback to the brain through millions of nerve endings. This keeps us
safe and in touch with our environment.

qualities to freshen and rebalance skin ph.

H oney is one of my favorite skincare ingredients. It’s antibacterial
and antifungal, so is soothing on pimples or irritated skin. It’s a natural
moisturiser so is very hydrating, which is great for mature skin or anyone
with sensitive skin. Honey also absorbs impurities from the pores, which
is why it’s such a great cleansing ingredient.

L emon juice is a natural skin lightener and antiseptic, also rich in AHA
(citric acid). Great for killing bacteria from pimples and rebalancing skin
ph. It also contains vitamin C for collagen building. Lemon juice was one
of the first foods I used on my skin during high school to successfully
fade my freckles! As it is highly acidic (ph of about 2-3), it can be
irritating, so only use in small-diluted amounts and never leave on the
skin for an extended period of time. Increased sun sensitivity can occur if
used undiluted or left on the skin.

11
For variety, you may choose to add one of the following every so often to
the Milk and Honey mixture.

Cinnamon ½ tsp
Vanilla sugar ½ tsp

C innamon facilitates collagen synthesis for increased skin strength and

elasticity. It’s a natural antiseptic, and smells really good! Only use in small
amounts as it can be an irritant.

V anilla sugar smells good thanks to the vanilla! Castor sugar is the
finest of sugars and dissolves readily in cold mixtures, making it the
gentlest option for everyday use. Sugar contains glycolic acid, which is
the most penetrating AHA due to smaller sized molecules. This enables
deeper penetration down to the dermis layer of skin to stimulate collagen
synthesis for firmer appearing skin. Glycolic acid is good for treating dark
spots, wrinkles, acne, skin scarring, large pores and oily skin.

should feel soft and fresh. The only draw back with using vinegar is you
may smell like a fish and chip shop to those around you, which is why I
don’t use this in the morning!

13
Scrubs
S crubs can be used once or twice a week as exfoliation to remove dead
skin cells and stimulate skin cell renewal. Skin will immediately appear
plump and radiant, as blood will flow to the surface bringing oxygen and
nutrients whilst removing waste on a cellular level. Over time, skin texture
will improve. Great for anyone with clogged pores or dry, dull skin. As
some scrubs can be coarse or gritty, avoid using on irritated or sunburnt
skin, open wounds, or pussy pimples.

Masks

M asks are less abrasive than scrubs and can be used once a week to
once a fortnight as a deep cleansing face pack to draw out impurities and
nourish the skin.

17
Healing Honey Mask

Runny Honey 1 tsp

This is my favorite mask of all time and is extremely beneficial for all skin
types. When left sitting on the skin, honey will draw impurities from the
pores, which is the main aim when using it as a deep cleansing mask.

Hold a warm damp face cloth over your face for a couple of seconds
so that skin is slightly wet. Warm a teaspoon of honey in your palm for
a runny consistency. Thickly smear over entire face and neck, avoiding
the eye area. Let the honey sit for 10 – 20 minutes or until it feels drier
and stickier to touch. In warmer environments it may not set as well as in
cooler environments. You may need to hold a tissue to catch any drips!

When you come to wash it off it’s important to warm the honey again so
that it’s doesn’t pull the skin. Wet a face cloth in warm water and hold
over your face for a few seconds. Using a cotton face pad, wipe off excess
honey. Be sure to use light upward motions. Remove all trace of honey
with a wet face cloth.

Honey is so hydrating there is no need to apply a moisturiser.

Moisturisers
A moisturiser is used after cleansing to lock in the natural oils of the
skin and protect against environmental elements such as sun, wind, air
conditioning, indoor heating, pollution and so on. It can sometimes be
used to add moisture to skin that is extremely dry.

21
Cooling Summer Moisturiser

The moisturiser I use in the warmer months is fresh Aloe Vera gel. Easily
grown in the garden, I cut a spike and keep in the fridge so that it’s cool
when applied to the skin.

The stronger gel is at the base of the spike and is a darker green. This can
leave a slimy yellow residue on your skin so I only apply this part of the gel
at night. If you use as a morning moisturiser, use the gel from the pointed end
of the spike, as it is clearer.

A loe Vera is great for after sun care, waxing or laser hair removal as it
is rejuvenating, healing and soothing.

22
Waming Winter Moisturiser

During winter Coconut Oil is my moisturiser of choice. I class it as a wonder food and
cover my entire body in it daily after getting out the shower. I also use it throughout the
day as a lip balm.

C oconut oil helps generate heat to the surface of the skin, locks in moisture, acts as
a disinfectant on the skin due to anti microbial properties and is full of anti oxidants to
maintain smooth skin.

Hair H air frames our face and can either make us look and feel amazing
or do the total opposite. The hair shaft is covered in tiny cuticles, almost
like scales, that when sitting flat makes hair smooth and reflect light, which
gives it shine. When the cuticles are lifted and open, hair will feel coarse
and absorb light, causing it to appear frizzy, dull and lifeless.

Having had long hair for the majority of my life there are a few habits I
have developed to ensure my hair is always in fantastic condition.

• After washing, wrap hair in a towel to absorb excess moisture.

• Use towel to pat dry. Do not rub, as hair is weak when wet.
• Use a wide tooth comb when hair is wet. Do not brush.
• Let hair dry naturally.
• Only style hair when dry, to avoid over stretching and breaking.
• Use a heat protectant when using hot appliances.
• Avoid backcombing and teasing.
