“João Casimiro Almeida reveals great sensitivity and prowess in the musical

conception”

João Casimiro Almeida (Cabeceiras de Basto, 1994), began his musical studies at
the age of 11 with Miguel Campinho and Ermelinda Martins, and quickly showed
sensitivity and taste for the piano and music. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at
ESMAE, in Porto, in the class of Madalena Soveral, and his Master’s Degree in Piano
Performance at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, in
the class of Michel Dalberto and Claire-Marie Le Guay.

João already has a vast musical experience, performing regularly as a soloist, in


the most important national venues such as Casa da Música, Teatro Rivoli in Porto,
Centro Cultural de Belém and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Palácio da Pena
in Sintra or the Teatro Aveirense, in Aveiro. He also performs regularly abroad, in venues
just as the Martin Codax Auditorium in Vigo (Spain), the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna (Austria)
and the Sala Lustrzana in Tarnów (Poland), among other countries. In the 2019/2020
season, he played with the Orquestra Classíca de Espinho, the Tarnów Chamber
Orchestra and the Remix Ensemble of the Casa da Música, in Porto, as well as in several
solo recitals and chamber music concerts in venues as the Teatro da Vista Alegre in
Ílhavo, Teatro Cinema in Fafe, Convento de São Francisco in Coimbra and Cine-Teatro
Avenida in Castelo Branco.
He has been awarded more than a dozen national and international awards,
including a 1st Prize in the Cidade do Fundão International Competition, the David Russell
International Competition in Vigo, and also the 1st Prize in the International Competition
Paços Premium. He was also semifinalist of the 8th Rosario Marciano Competition in
Vienna. He also participated in television programs such as "A Grande Valsa” (RTP) and
"Nota Alta" (Porto Canal) and gave interviews to radios such as TSF and Antena 2.
During his career he had the opportunity to work with several musicians who
contributed to his pianistic and musical enrichment, among them the pianists Guigla
Katsarava, Maria Belooussova, Masahi Katayama, Prisca Benoit, Pedro Burmester and
Vincent Larderet, William Fong, the conductors Antonio Saiote, Pedro Neves and Peter
Rundel, as well as the violist Ryszard Woycicki and the composer Claude Abromont.

João Casimiro Almeida works on all kinds of repertoire, from Bach to Boulez, and
is interested in the new creations and debuting several contemporary works nationally.
He is the pianist of Ars Ad Hoc, an Art in Time project related to chamber music and
contemporary music, which in the 2019/2020 season focused on the music of Ludwig van
Beethoven and Luís Antunes Pena.

During his studies, he was a fellow of the Fondation Meyer, of the Fondation Les
Amis d'Alain Marinaro and also a Merit Fellow of the IPP – Instituto Politécnico do Porto.
