LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 5

I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
a. Visualize polygons with 3 or more sides;
b. name polygons with 3 or more sides; and
c. create an output following given instruction; and
d. answer exercises depicting at least 80% level of accuracy.

II. Subject Matter:

a. Topic: Visualizing, naming and drawing polygons with 5 or more sides
(M5GE-IIIc-19)
b. References: World of Math 5, pp. 106-108
c. Materials: slide decks, pocket charts, visuals, laptop, TV, pictures,
strips

III. Procedure:
A. Preliminaries:
1. Setting of Standards:
Teacher say: Today as I discuss to you our lesson I want you to be guided on
the following house rules. (1) always listen to the teacher, (2) follow directions
carefully, (3) always be kind to others, (4) if you want to answer, please raise
your right hand for you to be recognize, (5) complete work/task on time and (6)
always be safe, honest and helpful.
2. Drill:
English/Filipino Integration
Teacher says: Today, before we formally start our lesson I want you to
look at the following words written on strips with its definition and its
counterpart term/s in Filipino.
 Diamond/Hugis-dyamante – a polygon with four sides.
 Line/linya – a straight one-dimensional figure that has no
thickness and extends in both directions.
 Side/gilid – the line segment that joins two vertices in a shape or
two-dimensional figure.
 Vertex/taluktok – is the point where three or more edges meet.
 Star/hugis-tala – is a polygon with 10 sides also known as
decagon.
 Octagon/oktagono – a polygon with 8 sides.
 Rectangle/parihaba – is a quadrilateral and is a polygon with 4
sides.
 Triangle/tatsulok – triangle is a polygon with 3 sides.

3. Motivation:

Child labor Lost of job Flood

Picture 1: Child Labor
Questions:
1. What are some of the chores that your parents want you to do?
2. Does your parents allow you to work in rice fields like what is shown in the
picture?
3. What do you think will happen to children who have to work at an early age?
Picture 2:
Questions: Lost of job
1. If your parents lost their job, do you think life would be easy for you?
2. What did your parents do when they lost their job?
3. What did you do to help your parents??
Picture 3: Flood
1. Who amongst you live in a flood-prone area?
2. What do you usually do before and after the flood?
3. How do you cope up with the situation?
Fill in the table below:

B. Developmental Activities:
1. Presentation:
MAPEH (Arts) Integration
Teacher says: I have here some pieces of straws. You will need these
straws to create different shapes based on your own preferences. I will only give
you 3 minutes to create a shape using the straw then I will randomly call 3
pupils to say something about what you created.
2. Discussion:
What is a POLYGON?
POLYGON is a closed-figure joined by segments. It is made with 3 or more line
segments (sides) and each line segment connects to only one other line
segment.

NAME SIDES
Triangle 3
Quadrilaterals 4
Pentagon 5
Hexagon 6
Heptagon 7
Octagon 8
Nonagon 9
Decagon 10

Science Integration
Some celestial bodies in the universe is
also called star. Just like our very one sun it is
considered as a star because it fuels light
and energy to our planets and those
that are near it.
3. Generalization:

4. Application:
Araling Panlipunan Integration

The Pentagon, which is a building

structure in the USA and is served
as a military headquarters for the
country’s safety and protection.

3. Generalization:
Teacher say: Let us have a fun-filled activity class. This activity is done for you
to be able to visualize and familiar with the different polygons. This activity is
called “The Human Polygon”. I will provide to you cut outs and as you open the
envelop given in each group, see the instructions inside. (Let teacher explain
what to do on the given activity.)
4. Application:
Teacher say: This time, we will put into practice of the understanding you have
on our lesson today. I will group you into 3 groups. Row 1 will be group 1, row
2 will be the second group and the last group will be the third row.
Activity 1: Give Me A Name!
Directions: Name the given polygon based on its number of sides.
