1 Product Overview
1.1 Purpose
The main function of the PDU is to distribute −48 V DC power to DC-powered
units. The PDU receives one feeding of input voltage and distributes the input
voltage to separate fused outputs through output connectors.
1.2 Variants
Table 1 lists the PDU variants.
1.2.1 PDU 01 04
PDU 01 04 is used for power distribution to both internal and external consumers.

Note: Modular PDUs (ECMs) use software defined PCR settings. For more
information about these settings, for example, the Class Power
Distribution, refer to Managed Object Model (MOM). For more
information about ECMs, refer to PDU Description for PDU System.
The non-modular PDUs have the following three PCR switches from left to right:
— Priority Load
— Cold Start
— Remote Control
On
Off
When a switch is set in the upper position, the PCR function is enabled (On), and
when a switch is set in the lower position, the function is disabled (Off).
The Battery Fuse Unit (BFU) continuously monitors the systemVoltage. When
the battery voltage drops below the specified level,
MainLoadUndervoltageDisconnect, the BFU sends an action signal to the PDU.
When this signal is received, the PDU disconnects all outputs where the P switch
is set in position Off (disabled).

On When the P switch is set in the upper (On) position, that is,
PriorityLoadenabled, the load connected to this output will be
disconnected when the systemVoltage is below
priorityLoadUndervoltageDisconnect.
Off When the P switch is set in the lower (Off) position, that is,
PriorityLoaddisabled, the load connected to this output will
be disconnected when the During battery backup, the RBS can
use two different voltage levels where the respective selected
loads are switched off.systemVoltage is below
mainLoadUndervoltageDisconnect.
During battery backup, the RBS can use two different voltage levels where the
respectiveAll units connected to the PDU ports set in the lower (Off) position
(defined as main loads) will be disconnected at the higher voltage level, defined
by attribute mainLoadUndervoltageDisconnect.
This feature can be used to disconnect less prioritized loads, such as radio units
which are not critical during the limited time when the batteries power the node.
This means that some services can be cut off earlier than others, for example:
A very common usage is to keep the DU and link transmission alive longer than
the radio service.
The climate system in the RBS requires that the SCU, and preferably the DU are
operational as both control the fans. Hence both SCU and DU are set to,
PriorityLoadenabled. If the SCU and the DU are not defined as priority loads,
that is their outputs are set to PriorityLoadenabled, the fans will stop running
when the MainLoadDisconnect level is reached. When this happens, the
remaining capacity in the battery cannot be used since no cooling is available.
At startup, the PDU checks the input signal for the cold-start function. When
this signal is detected at startup, the PDU only turns on the outputs that are
enabled as cold outputs.
Note: For outdoor cabinets without heaters, all cold-start switches must be
enabled (upper position).
For outdoor cabinets equipped with heaters, the cold-start switches for
the following units should be enabled (upper position):
— SCU
— DC heater
The Baseband or DU can control the output when the switch in the PDU is
configured as remotely controllable. Both PDUs with PCR switches and modular
PDU variants can be controlled by software if the software supports remote
control of E-Fuses.
Note: If the R switch is set to disabled, the output E-fuse cannot be remotely
controlled. The corresponding settings for software controlled PDUs ,
that is, ECM PDUs without PCR switches are managed by attribute
modifications in the MOM, refer to Managed Object Model (MOM).
