This module will help you become oriented with the course and flexible learning structure
implemented for the course. You can think of this portion as the first few minutes of a face-to-face class

Program Objectives
Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management
1. Produce well-rounded professionals in tourism management who can fully contribute to the
advancement of tourism industry in Partido area and throughout the Bicol Region;
2. Conduct researches that will address to present needs and issues relevant to planning,
operation and management, and sustainable tourism development of rural and community-
based tourism industries;
3. Implement tourism developmental extension projects, capacity building, and social
enterprises for the socio-economic upliftment of communities in the service area;
4. Lead in environmental and cultural conservation and responsible travel that adhere to the
global code of ethics for tourism; and
5. Produce God-fearing, morally upright, responsible people and service-oriented leaders in
tourism industry.

Course Code and Title: THC1 Macro Perspective in Tourism and Hospitality
Course Description
This course is designed to give a clear and whole overview of Tourism and Hospitality as an
ecosystem and goes beyond the usual closed-concept of tourism. It introduces the concepts and terms
that are common throughout the different sectors. It also intends to develop, update and maintain local
knowledge as well as tourism industry knowledge. It shows the structure and scope of tourism as well
as the impact of Tourism as an industry in relation to the world economy and society. It also illustrates
the effects of the convergence of tourism with other local industries and let the students appreciate its
multiplier effect in various fronts. It discusses major factors that influence the history and future of
tourism in the world and in the Philippines. It also introduces the sustainable goals of tourism and
discusses among others, how to develop protective environments for children in tourism destinations;

to observe and perform risk mitigation activities; etc. The students will also learn to appreciate the
key global organizations and the roles they play in influencing and monitoring tourism trends.
Course Goals:
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Evaluate the Tourism and Hospitality Industry including the different sectors and related
industries.
2. Compare the different sectors of tourism and relate its effect on the world economy and
society. May include an exposure activity to tourism sectors.
3. Identify the major factors that influence the history and future of tourism in the world and in
the Philippines.
4. Create a booklet about protective environments for children and accessibility in tourism
destinations.
5. Determine risk mitigation strategies and accessible tourism approaches.

Class Guidelines/ Policies
1. Students must submit a copy of their CE Form and enroll in the Virtual Classroom.
2. Students are required to wear the decent clothes during synchronous online class meetings.
3. Students are obliged to observe the code of conduct and discipline contained in the student
handbook.
4. Students under the influence of liquor or exhibiting bad behavior will be removed from the
Google Meet or Zoom Meeting Room.
5. Students are expected to participate in activities such as submitting assignments, engaging in
discussion boards, completing exams, attending online chats, and other required output.
6. Students must uphold academic integrity. In all academic work, the ideas and contributions of
others must be appropriately acknowledged and work that is presented as original must be, in
fact, original. Scholastic dishonesty includes cheating, plagiarism, and collusion.

III. Activities
1. Submit a copy of your Certificate of Enrolment (CE) Form to our Virtual Classroom CE
Submission Bin.
2. Accomplish the Class Registration Form via Google Forms by accessing the post through
our virtual classroom under Week 1.
3. Access the Course Outline through virtual classroom under Week 1.
4. Find your favorite photo of yourself with your full name and nickname in it. Submit it in the
Virtual Submission Bin “ME!”
