ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON® 3

Install Guide

CD-KEY
During the install process of RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3, you will be required to input a
CD-KEY before the install process can proceed.
The CD-KEY for RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 CD-ROM is printed on a sticker attached
to the CD-ROM tray, CD-ROM case or the CD-ROM disc sleeve.
Input the key when the installer prompts you to do so. DO NOT LOSE THIS KEY! THE
GAME CANNOT BE INSTALLED WITHOUT IT.

THE README FILE


The RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 CD-ROM game has a ReadMe file where you can view
both the License Agreement and updated information about the game. We strongly
encourage you to take the time to read this file in order to benefit from changes made
after the manual went to print.
To view this file, double-click on it in the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 directory found on
your hard drive (usually C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster® Tycoon 3). You can also
view the ReadMe file by first clicking on the Start button on your Windows® taskbar,
then on Programs, then on Atari, then on RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3, and then on the
ReadMe file.

Operating System: Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP (Windows® XP recommended)
Processor: Pentium® III 733 MHz or compatible (Pentium® 4 1.3 GHz
or compatible recommended)
Memory: 128 MB RAM; 256 MB for XP (256 MB; 384 MB for XP
recommended)
Hard Disk Space: 800 MB free
CD-ROM Drive: 4X Speed or faster (8X or faster recommended)
Video: ATI Radeon™ or 32 MB GeForce™ 2 or higher. (64 MB
ATI Radeon recommended)
Sound: Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP-compatible 16-bit sound card*
(PC audio solution containing Dolby® Digital Live required
for Dolby Digital audio)
DirectX®: DirectX® version 9.0 (included) or higher

*Indicates device should be compatible with DirectX® version 9.0 or higher.

SETUP AND INSTALLATION
1. Start Windows® 98/Me/2000/XP.
2. Insert the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 CD-ROM game disc into your CD-ROM drive.
3. If AutoPlay is enabled, the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 Autoplay Menu should appear.
If AutoPlay is not enabled, or the installation does not start automatically, click on the
Start button on your Windows® taskbar, then on Run. Type D:\Autorun.exe and click
on OK. Note: If your CD-ROM drive is assigned to a letter other than D, substitute
that letter.
4. On the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 Autoplay Menu, click the INSTALL button and
follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3
CD-ROM game.
5. Once installation is complete, you may launch the game either from the Autoplay
Menu by clicking the PLAY button, or by clicking on the Start button on the
Windows® taskbar, then Programs > Atari > RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 > Play
RollerCoaster® Tycoon 3 (for XP users, click on the Start button, then on All
Programs > Atari > RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 > RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3).
Note: You must have the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 game disc in your CD-ROM drive to
play.

Installation of DirectX®
The RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 CD-ROM requires DirectX® 9.0 or higher in order to run. .
If you do not have DirectX® 9.0 or higher installed on your computer, click “Yes” to
accept the DirectX® 9.0 License Agreement. This will then launch the DirectX® 9.0
Install.

Microsoft Photo Story® 3


Microsoft Photo Story 3 for Windows lets you create fun and exciting video stories from
your pictures. By using Photo Story 3, you can touch-up, add motion, effects, music, and
more to your pictures and save them as a video story that you and others can watch in a
media player that supports playback of Windows Media® Video (WMV) files, such as
Windows Media Player 10.
Photo Story 3 is included with RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 so you can share the screenshots
and the peep photos you take in RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 with your friends and family in
a fun and exciting way.
If Photo Story 3 for Windows is already installed on your computer, or if your computer
is not running the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, the Option to intall Photo
Story 3 will be grayed out.
Note: To install Microsoft Photo Story 3 for Windows, your computer must be running
the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, and Windows Media Player 10 must be
installed. For a complete list of system requirements, see the Microsoft Photo Story 3 for
Windows Web site (www.microsoft.com/photostory).
If you do not choose to install Photo Story 3 when you are first installing RollerCoaster
Tycoon® 3, you can choose to install Photo Story 3 at any time by doing one of the
following:
• Click the PHOTO STORY 3 button on the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 Autoplay Menu.

• Insert the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 CD in your CD-ROM drive. In Windows
Explorer, locate the Photo Story 3 for Windows folder on the game CD–ROM, and
then double–click the Photo Story 3 Setup file named PStory.msi to begin installing
Photo Story 3.

• Note: Windows Media Player 10 Installer is available in the root directory of the
RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 disc.
INSTALLING ADOBE® ACROBAT® READER® 5.1
After the game installer finishes copying files to your hard drive, you may wish to install
Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® 5.0. This program is needed to read the electronic game
manual.

Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.1 requires the following:


• Intel® Pentium® processor
• Microsoft® Windows® 95 OSR 2.0, Windows® 98 SE, Windows® Millennium,
Windows® NT® 4.0 with Service Pack 5, or Windows® 2000
• 64 MB of RAM
• 24 MB of available hard-disk space
• Additional 70 MB of hard-disk space for Asian fonts (optional)
• Windows®-compatible printer for printing
To install Acrobat Reader, select the ACROBAT button in the Autoplay Menu, the setup
program will ask you if you want to install Acrobat Reader. To install Acrobat Reader
for Windows, click OK, and then follow the instructions on the screen. or double-click on
the icon labeled My Computer. Then right-click on the icon for your CD-ROM drive
(which is usually D:) and choose Explore from the pop-up menu. Double-click on the
Manual folder. Then double-click on the ar505enu.exe file to install Acrobat Reader.
Click on the Finish button to exit the Acrobat Reader installer. If Acrobat Reader for
Windows is already installed on your computer, the option to install Acrobat Reader will
be grayed out.

VIEWING THE ELECTRONIC GAME MANUAL


The instruction manual for the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 game has been placed on the
game CD-ROM in Adobe Acrobat Reader format. Use Acrobat Reader to read and print
the documentation.

• Insert the RollerCoaster Tycoon® 3 disc into your CD-ROM drive.


In the AutoPlay Menu double-click on GAME MANUAL button (Note: If Acrobat
Reader is not installed on your computer, you will be prompted first to install it).
• Double-click on the icon labeled My Computer. Then right-click on the icon for your
CD-ROM drive (which is usually D:) and choose Explore from the pop-up menu.

Next double-click on the Manual folder and then double-click on the
RCT3_Manual_USA.pdf file to view the manual.

To print the game manual, select “Print” from the File menu. Choose the pages you wish
to print and click on the OK button.

Acrobat Help File


For more instruction on using Acrobat Reader, you can read the help file that comes with
the program. Select “Reader Help” from the Help menu.

Other Acrobat Tips


• You can move through a document one page at a time by pressing the RIGHT
ARROW key to advance to the next page or the LEFT ARROW key to back up one
page.

• You can move through a document one screen at a time by pressing the PAGE
DOWN key to scroll down one screen or the PAGE UP key to scroll up one screen.

• To increase text visibility, click on the magnifying glass in the toolbar.

CHECK FOR UPDATES


We strongly encourage you to select UPDATE in the Autoplay Menu to check the
Internet for any patches or other updates and if found, prompts you to download and
install the update. An Internet connection and separate account is required for this
feature to work properly. (If the game is not installed, this button is grayed out.)

solutions for this title. The product’s Part # is located in several places (on the CD label,
package and/or plastic disc case) and is usually identified by a number such as 04-12345.
When prompted by the Automated System, enter the last five digits of your product’s
Part #. (For example, Part # 04-12345 would require that you enter the “12345” portion
of the number for that product.) Note: Some products simply feature a five-digit Part #
without an “04-” prefix.

Product Return Procedures in the United States & Canada


In the event our technicians at (425) 951-7108 determine that you need to forward
materials directly to us, please include a brief letter explaining what is enclosed and why.
Make sure you include the Return Merchandise Authorization Number (RMA#) supplied
to you by the technician, and your telephone number in case we need to call you. You
will receive the mailing address when the technician gives you the RMA#. Any materials
not containing this RMA# will be returned to you unprocessed.

Warranty Policy in the United States & Canada


If our technicians determine that the product storage medium is found to be defective
within ninety (90) days of original purchase, (unless otherwise provided by applicable
law), Atari will replace the item free of charge, to the original purchaser, if the item is
accompanied by the original dated receipt and packaging.
