MTH202 (Assignment No.

1)
Name: Muhammad Osama
Student ID: BC200404989
Question:

Let the universal set U be the set of integers and A={x ∈ Z ∨0< x ≤ 5 } and

B={ x ∈ Z∨3 ≤ x< 9}, then find.

(i) (A U B)C

(ii) (A∩B)C
Solution:
U= {0, ±1, ±2, ±3 ...}

A= {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}

B = {3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}

Part 1:(A U B)C =?

(A U B) = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} U {3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}

(A U B) = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}

(A U B)C = U – (A U B)

(A U B)C = {….-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3..........} - {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}

(A U B)C = {…-3, -2, -1, 0, 9, 10……}

(A U B)C = {x ∈ z | x  {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}}

Part 2:(A ∩ B)C =?

(A ∩ B) = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} ∩ {3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8}

(A ∩ B) = {3, 4, 5}

(A ∩ B)C = U - (A ∩ B)

(A ∩ B)C = {….-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3..........} - {3, 4, 5}

(A ∩ B)C = {….-5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 6, 7, 8…..}

(A ∩ B)C = {x ∈ z | x  {3, 4, 5}}
