The document is a worksheet that describes key terms related to the origin of planet Earth. It contains 10 multiple choice items asking the student to identify what is being described for terms like accretion, the homogeneous and heterogeneous accretion hypotheses, the age of Earth, and the components and layers that make up Earth. The worksheet provides context for how gravity pulled particles together over billions of years to form Earth and distinguishes between theories of whether Earth formed as a uniformly solid body or with separate formation of its core.

Unit 2: Why Life on Earth is Possible • Grade 11
Lesson 2.1: The Origin of Planet Earth
Worksheet 1
Name: Manuel, Patricia Ann M. Date: _________________________
Grade and Section: 11-Carreno Rating: ________________________
Instructions: Identify what is being described in each item.
1. Accretion- This is when gravity pulls particles towards an object.
2. Homogenous Accretion Hypothesis - This states that #1 happened and formed Earth as a uniformly solid body. 3. Heterogeneous Accretion Hypothesis - This states that #1 happened and formed Earth’s core separately. 4. 4.6 Billion years- Earth was formed approximately this long ago. 5. Primitive Nebula - This is where the particles that formed Earth come from. 6. Iron and Nickel- In #2, these are the metals that sank to the middle of Earth. 7. Silicates - In # 2, these are the components that floated. 8. Crust, Mantle and Core - These are the three layers of Earth. 9. Silicates, Volatile particles, Water - In #3, these are the materials that formed the outer layer of Earth. 10. 4 - This is the number of steps involved in #1.
