PE3-CRIM - - First Aid and Water Safety
First Semester, AY 2020 – 2021

The BS Criminology graduates are expected to become globally competent, innovative, socially and ethically responsible in their field of
specialization that focuses on research and inquiry on the nature, causes, treatment or punishment of criminal behavior and how criminal justice
agencies function and respond to crime, criminals and victims prevention, law enforcement, scientific crime detection, correctional administration
public safety and allied fields. Moreover, they are also expected to foster the values of leadership, integrity, accountability, and responsibility while
serving their fellowmen, community, and country.

COURSE INFORMATION
Course Code : PE3-CRIM
Course Title : First Aid and Water Safety
No of Units : 2 units
Pre-requisite : PE-2

Co-requisite : PE-1

Contact Hours : 5 hours per week (2 hrs lecture / 3 hrs lab)


Course Description:
This course presents an overview of the different schools of thought in criminology theories that explain criminal behavior; techniques for measuring the
characteristics of criminals, crime and victims; the interrelatedness of theory, policy, and practice in the criminal justice system; and , current issues and studies in criminology.
Introduction to Criminology is a course deals with the overview of the study of crimes; its causes and control, the criminals and the factors of criminal behavior including
approaches of their treatments. It includes the study of the factors that precipitate crime repression, criminal etiology or the predisposing factors and producing elements of crime. It
adds also the analysis of the social, psychological, and mental make up of criminals and the victims, and the role of correction as a pillar in the criminal justice system.

The course includes an introduction in the field of Criminalistics, Investigation, Law and Law Enforcement Administration – the major areas in criminal justice educationwhich are in
accordance with CHED MEMOs and the PRC syllabi.

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

Equip the students with the basic principles of moving and transporting victims with applications.

Learn the significant signs and symptoms of illegal drugs and its first aid treatments.
Learn the different types of poisoning and its proper first aid treatments.
Equip students the basic skills and knowledge of water safety.
