The Effect of Gadgets in the Academic Performance of Grade 11-STEM students in CNHS S.Y.
2019-2020
Background of the Study (What have you read that has had an impact on your thinking
about the topic?)
Majority of the students in grade 11- STEM have their own cellphone, tablet,
IPods, etc. The advance technologies can help the students to research about their
assignments and make their work more efficiently. Most of the students in Grade 11-
STEM used their gadgets to aid them in school and even at home however some of the
students in grade 11-STEM use their gadgets for Facebook and other social media
without doing their task in school. Some of the students in grade 11-STEM experience
being late in the class for they spend more time in social media even late at night.
Statement of the Problem (as far as you are aware of, what is the gap of knowledge in your
research interest based on readings/existing literatures? Why does this research need to be
conducted?
The problem was to investigate the effects of gadgets in the academic performance of the
students in Grade 11 STEM of CNHS SY 2019-2020. This research must be conducted because
most of the students right now use their gadgets for different task in school. The technologies
have big impact to the lives of the students. People today communicate with each other easily
with the use of different gadgets. This must be conducted in order for the students and the people
around them to know and give actions to those students who were able to use their gadgets in
wrong way.
Objectives of the Study (What does the study hope to achieve? Give at least three).
disseminate information about the impact of the gadgets in the academic performance of
the students in grade 11-STEM;
know the effect of gadgets to the performance of the grade 11- STEM;
know if the gadget really aid the students from their task in school.
give action to the students who became addicted in using their gadgets.
Research Locale and Respondents (Where will the study be conducted? Who will be the
target respondents?)
Literature Review: (What literature do you intend to review and why? Five for MA/MS
students and at least 10 for PhD/Doctorate students)
Gadget is a small mechanical or electronic device with a practical use but often thought of as
a novelty. According to Tech Crates in 2012, one cannot even dare to imagine life without
gadgets like smartphones and laptops. Today’s gadgets are one of the ways to make life more
comfortable and deluxe. The gadgets and the performance of the students must be connected to
be more effective for the students. If this happens the gadgets are more useful.
Gross (2009) described in his article that people are often in using technologies in
communication at home and at school and even at work and feel hard to survive in the absence of
modern communication. People are relying mainly on these sources from information, and etc.so
the students must be responsible in using gadgets especially in their studies. This literature I
intend to review because it states that the gadgets have more advantages if the students use the
gadgets responsibly.
Theoretical Framework (What tentative theory/is will you use in analyzing your material?
Why this/these theories?
The Distributed Cognition theory where the students is afforded to be more powerful. This
theory promotes learning in a community of learners or a system where interaction takes place.
The role of technology in this theory is that the learners are interacting. In this theory, gadgets
can be used to help extend human capabilities. For example calculator can used to solve math
problems easily. I chose this theory because we know that gadgets can really help the task easier
if the students use it correctly.
Proposed Methods/Procedures (This answers the question: How will you conduct the
study?)
