Govt approves export of indigenous Akash missile system : The government has approved the

export of the indigenous Akash missile system.

 Under the AtmaNirbhar Bharat, India is growing in its capabilities of manufacturing a


wide variety of Defence platforms and missiles.
 The Akash missile system is an important defence asset for the country with over 96 per
cent indigenization.
 The Akash is a surface-to-air missile with a range of 25 kilometres.
 Developed by DRDO, it is India’s first indigenously designed missile system and can
target fighter jets, cruise missiles, drones and other aerial assets.

IAF Chief, Air Marshal R K S Bhadauria launches IAF e-Governance (e-Office) portal in
New Delhi : Indian Air Force Chief, Air Marshal R K S Bhadauria formally launched the IAF e-
Governance (e-Office) portal in New Delhi.

 The launch of the portal is part of Digital India and e-governance initiative that will
transform the entire Indian Air Force into a paperless office workflow.
 It marks a major shift from the current method of correspondence, filing and
documentation to a digital one.
 The platform will ensure enhanced transparency, improved efficiency, increased
accountability, assured data integrity and rapidly accessible archives along with a major
reduction in the use of paper.

DRDO, Indian Navy conduct successful maiden test trial of SAHAYAK-NG

Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO along with Indian Navy conducted the
successful maiden test trial of SAHAYAK-NG India’s first indigenously designed and developed
Air Dropped Container from IL 38SD aircraft of Indian Navy off the coast of Goa.

 The trial was conducted by Indian Navy to enhance its operational logistics capabilities
and provide critical engineering stores to ships which are deployed more than 2000
kilometres from the coast.
 It reduces the requirement of ships to come close to the coast to collect spares and stores.
 The newly developed GPS aided air dropped container has the capability to carry a
payload that weighs upto 50 kg and can be dropped from heavy aircraft.
India’s 1st Testbed TiHAN launched at IIT Hyderabad

Union Minister of Education, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has virtually laid the foundation
stone of “TiHAN-IIT Hyderabad”, India’s first Testbed for Autonomous Navigation Systems
(Terrestrial and Aerial) at IIT Hyderabad.

 The Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous Navigation Systems (TiHAN) for


Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Remotely Operated Vehicles at IIT Hyderabad.
 The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has sanctioned
Rs 135 crores to IIT Hyderabad under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-
Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) to set up a Technology Innovation Hub on Autonomous
Navigation and Data Acquisition Systems.

Assam assembly passes bill to abolish all state-run Madrasas

Assam Assembly has passed 'The Assam Repealing Bill, 2020' to abolish all state-run Madrasas
by converting them to general schools.

 Opposition Congress and AIUDF staged a walkout when their demand for sending the
bill to the Select Committee was rejected.
 With the passage of the bill, all madrasas being run under the government will be
converted into regular educational institute with effect from 1st of April next year.

Entire state of Nagaland declared disturbed area for six more months
The entire state of Nagaland was declared a disturbed area for six more months.

 In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers)
Act, 1958, the central government declares that the whole of the State of Nagaland to be
disturbed area for a period of six months.
 The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been in force in Nagaland for several
decades.

North East’s first-ever specialised Ginger Processing Plant in Meghalaya is being revived

Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, DoNER Dr Jitendra Singh has informed that
North East’s first-ever specialised Ginger Processing Plant at Ri-Bhoui district in Meghalaya is
being revived and is likely to become functional in the beginning of 2021.

 It is the only Ginger Processing Plant of North East India established around the year
2004 but it has remained non-functional for many years.
 The Plant will not only process ginger but also help in preparing products like waxed
ginger, ginger paste, ginger powder, ginger flakes, ginger oil etc.
 The North Eastern Region of India produces about 450,000 Metric Ton of high-quality
ginger every year but most of it is sold at a lower price due to lack of processing and cold
storage facilities.
Cabinet Approves Multi Modal Logistics Hub & Multi Modal Transport Hub (MMTH) at
Greater Noida

The Union Cabinet has approved proposals of Department of Promotion of Industry & Internal
Trade (DPIIT) for construction of of various trunk infrastructure components, which includes:

 Krishnapatnam Industrial Area in Andhra Pradesh (estimated cost of the project of Rs.
2,139.44 crore);
 Tumakuru Industrial Area in Karnataka (estimated cost of Rs. 1,701.81 crore)
 Multi Modal Logistics Hub (MMLH) and Multi Modal Transport Hub (MMTH) at
Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh (estimated cost of Rs. 3,883.80 crore).

ISRO Chairman K Sivan gets one year extension up to January 14, 2022

The Central Government has approved the extension of the term of


ISRO Chairman K Sivan, for a period of one year.

 He was due to retire on January 14, 2021.


 Sivan will now continue as ISRO chairman and Secretary,
Department of Space up to January 14, 2022.
 He has been serving the post since January 14 2018, replacing AK Kiran Kumar.

Veteran broadcaster Indira Joseph Venniyoor passes away


Veteran broadcaster Indira Joseph Venniyoor passed away.

 She was a renowned broadcaster, All India Radio veteran & first English news announcer
of Travancore Radio when its English service began in 1949.
 She was the wife of well-known literary scholar & art critic the late E.M.J. Venniyoor.
