CAUTION : THE FUEL CONTROL UNIT AND FUEL PUMP ARE LUBRICATED BY FUEL.
DO NOT MOTOR, START OR OPERATE ENGINE IF FUEL BOOST PRESSURE
AT HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP INLET IS NOT CORRECT, I. E. : “FUEL P. 1”
OR “FUEL P. 2” WARNING LIGHT OFF (ON FAILURE WARNING PANEL).
(3) Depress the engine start button and hold it in depressed position.
(4) Advance the throttle control lever to the idle position and leave it in this position just for the
time required to obtain :
- a positive gas generator speed indication
- a fuel flow (nozzle, drain).
(5) Retard the throttle control lever to *lOFF1’ and release the engine start button,
NOTE : Minimum speed during ventilation is 8% rpm approximately.
(6) Watch engine deceleration in order to detect any possible unusual noise.
NOTE : Unusual deceleration noises are compressor or turbine blade clicks and gearing noises.
(7) When the engine is completely stopped, switch the LP pump OFF.
B - Dry ventilation
(1) Overspeed governor pulled (on engine),
71-004 Jan.180
(3) Depress the engine start button and hold it in depressed position,
(4) Wait for S minutes before starting engines.
4 - Engine starting
After a false start, the starting power selector switch 43P must be returned to “FLIGHT NORMAL” before
attempting any new engine start to allow for re-engagement of SS Rl relay.
A - First engine start
(1) Actuate the throttle control lever to check for free operation and full range of travel.
(2) Overspeed governor pulled (on engine).
(3) Place controls in following positions :
- De-icing system :
CAUTION : ENSURE THAT ENGINE HIGH-PRESSURE PUMP FUEL FEED PRESSURE IS CORRECT :
WARNING LIGHT OFF (ON FAILURE WARNING PANEL).
(4) Depress the engine start button for 2 to 3 seconds, then place the throttle control lever in the
idle position (between 5 and 8% rpm) and check for illumination of the corresponding
“IGNITIONS’ indicator light,
NOTE : The engine should normally light up about 15 seconds after the throttle control lever
- has been advanced. Watch the exhaust gas temperature indicator and the RPM indicator
for signs of light-up.
(5) Closely watch the exhaust gas temperature,
If the exhaust gas temperature reaches 8OoOC (1466OF) and keeps rising rapidly, proceed as follows :
- Pull the throttle control lever back to “OFF”.
- Switch to “MOTORINGtt.
NOTE : Carry out a dry ventilation if necessary (fire extinguishing).

(6) Allow engine speed to stabilize with throttle control lever on idle and perform the following
checks :
(a) Green ‘TGNITIONt’ indicator light . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . OFF
(b) Gas generator rpm . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 46 21.5 %

NOTE : If the green ttIGNITION” indicator light fails to go off : Increase engine speed up to
- 50% rpm or return starting selector switch to “MOTORING”.
Check circuit after engine shutdown (maximum time : 30 sec. ).
(7) Switch transfer pump ON (The associated red light should go off on the instrument panel).
(9) After satisfactory engine starting, slowly advance the throttle control lever up to maximum
position where 94% rpm approximately should be obtained (Under no circumstances should
100% rpm be exceeded).
NOTE : Perform second engine start on aircraft batteries (Disconuect the DC ground power unit).
(1) Actuate the throttle control lever to check for free operation and full range of travel.

- De-icing system :
(3) Depress the engine start button for 2 to 3 seconds, then place the throttle control lever in the
idle position (between 3 and 8% rpm) and check for illumination of the corresponding

(5) Switch transfer pump ON (The associated red light should go off on the instrument panel).
NOTE : The precautions to be taken for first engine start are also applicable to second
engine start.
- Connect a disconnect box to the wires &om the thermocouples ; the aircraft U;T indicator and the
pyrometric tester (see chapter 77-20-I) will be connected in tum to the discozmect box.
- Select engine rpm as required to read 7OoOC on tester, then switch over to aircraft EGT indicator.
- If the difference is more than 10°C, try to bring the exhaust gas temperature back within the above
range by means of the aircraft EGT indicator adjustment screw (Take outside air temperature- into
account).
- If the exhaust gas temperatie coot be adjusted within the required range, change the aircraft
EGT indicator and check the exhaust gas temperature indicating line (see chapter 77-20-l).

8 - Engine shutdown
A - Run the engine at idle rpm for about 2 minutes for cooling purposes,
NOTE : In an emergency the engine may be shut down i?om any operating position by returning
- the throttle control lever to “OFF”. If possible, watch engine deceleration in order to
detect any possible unusual noise.
B - Retard the throttle control lever to “OFF” and clock the engine run-down time,
C - When the gas generator has come to a stop, turn the LP pump and the transfer pump off. Check
for abnormal oil or fuel leaks.
A fuel quantity between 50 and 100 cc should flow &om the drain unit (door No.511) after the
throttle control lever has been brought back to the “OFF” position.
A - Enter in the aircraft logbook any special remark regarding engine operation,
C - Install air intake and exhaust nozzle covers after the engine has cooled down
(30 minutes approximately).
D - Protect the engine against weather by keeping it covered during periods of non-operation.
