4.1. Introduction:

The Blow Out Preventor (BOP) is a huge block of several valves and
equipment placed on top of the well on the sea bottom. In case of an
unexpected rise of pressure in the well, this BOP can be closed so there will
not be any blow out of oil into the sea.

The Lower Marine Riser Package (LMRP) is a part of the BOP (top section)
and it must be separated and lifted off the BOP in special cases.

The LMRP Skid is used as storage of LMRP when this is separated from the
lower BOP stack. The LMRP Skid is running on sidetracks in forward/aft
direction, at the starboard side of main deck. It is crossing the rails for BOP
Skid where the BOP Skid is normally parked. The LMRP Skid is parked at
forward side of BOP Skid.

Its purpose is to transport the LMRP safely to and from storage area on top
of BOP Skid to LMRP Skid parking area at the forward side of BOP Skid
storage area.

The opening in centre of LMRP skid is used while testing LMRP with the
retractable test stump, and it gives good access to LMRP connector.

The LMRP is placed on lower deck; all wind loads used are at the lower deck level
loads for analysis and design

The reference wind speed to be used is:


Lower Deck floor Level (z = 20,0m),

4.10. Analysis Basis:


As per Structural Design note in the clause 7.1 ‘The LMRP can be stored at the
LMRP skid during survival and damage without sea fastening. No other equipment
will be loaded during survival and damage conditions’.
However, the analysis and design is done for all the conditions without sea
fastening and sea fastening as there is a probability of condition that the LMRP
may be sea fastened in some worst conditions.
In staad two cases have been modeled and analyzed.
Case 1: LMRP Not Sea Fastened.
Case 2: LMRP Sea Fastened at Top.
The LMRP Skid members are checked for the worst stress using the above two
cases for analysis.

Checking the bolts for shear only, as the bolts will not be under tension. Although from the
above table the max tension is 907 kN for accidental load combination. The LMRP load
in accidental case will induce only compression on the frame on one side and will get
lifted up on the other side, which will not induce tension on the bolts.
