Communication : Agreeing & Disagreeing

Aims :

 Express opinions for agreeing and disagreeing in a polite and appropriate manner
 Communicate using agreeing and disagreeing expressions
 Identify how the intonation and stress in the speech changes when the speakers express
agreement or disagreement

Level :

1st Year Bac

Materials :

Pictures, Board, Color Cards, Handouts


Stage Procedure Time
Warm Up  Teacher greets students and asks them how 5 Minutes
they are.
 Teacher shows some pictures to students in
order to make the guess what the next
activity is going to be about.
 Students comment on the pictures
Presentation  Teacher asks students to open their books 25 Minutes
at page 14.
 Teacher asks students to read the
conversation and answer the question.
 Teacher elicits from students what the
speakers think.
 Teacher asks students : Do they have the
same or different opinions?
 Teacher reads the dialogue again and asks
students to write down the expressions
they use when they have the same or
different opinions.
 Teacher checks students notes and asks
some of the students to write the sentences
on the board.
 Teacher raises students attention to the
intonation used in either agreeing or
disagreeing.
Practice  Teacher gives students a list of agreeing 10 Minutes
and disagreeing expressions.
 Teacher shows 3 pictures to students and
asks them to answer the questions on them
using the expressions from the handout.
 Teacher points out how to sound polite if
the students use disagreeing phrases.
Production  Teacher suggests a group work activity. 20 Minutes
 Teacher explains how to group in a line,
each students facing a partner.
 Teacher gives each students a colorful card
in which a statement is written.
 Teacher asks students to tell their partners
the statement and the friends should reply
by either agreeing or disagreeing.
 Teacher observes and takes notes about
students mistakes.
Reflection  Teacher points out the mistakes students
made during the conversation.
