STANDARD CLASSIFICATION

ROYAL IHC SHIPBUILDING

The aim of the standard classification for Royal IHC Shipbuilding is the uniform designation of products and
parts by means of a numeric code.

The numeric code is to be used as a tool for:

a) Providing of specific information to be used on each level of the organization related to the production
process, ranging from inquiry up to and including the financial results.
b) A far-reaching integration of calculation methods, designing, engineering, purchasing, planning
progress control and price control for the management of the production process.

The standard classification contains 99 groups, in which sufficient spare capacity is integrated.
This spare capacity can be used for new technological developments by which also vessels other than
dredgers can be integrated in this system.

This standard classification is part of the IHC-coding system for order information.

The IHC-coding system to be used as follows:

xxxxx xx.xx(.x) xxx

xxxxx ..................................................... order number

xx …………………………… group number
xx .................................. part number
allocation of costs
cost estimation
planning unit (main planning)
allocation of production hours
unit for budget control

(.x)…………………… in several groups the classification number has 5 numbers

xxx ................... sub numbers:

xxx drawing number, is job number for
engineering department and also job number for
production department, to be divided into
the following serial numbers, i.e.:
000-490: department of shipbuilding
500-990: department of mechanical engineering, hydraulics
and electric engineering

For a more detailed specification of the sub-numbers reference is made to the separate list of standard sub-
numbers called : lijst van standard subnummers “werf”, dated June 1983

Example
01261 23.12 212 meaning:
01261 .................................................... yard number / order number
23 ..................................... piping group number 23
12 ................................ hull block 12
212 ................... compartment hull block 12

Example drawing number small ironwork

01261 10.41 212 018 meaning:
01261 .................................................... yard number / order number
10 ..................................... small ironwork
41 ................................ auxiliary foundations
212 ................... compartment hull block 12
018 ..... serial number

Note
Standard products and standard parts become a drawing number according to an additional number
system. Also the drawings made during project stage should have an additional number system

This booklet is only dealing with classification numbering. for subdivision into sub-numbers reference is
made to a separate list of sub-numbers available at the department Hoppers Estimation of IHC Holland
B.V..

The used classification is product related. Therefore reference is no longer available to separate activities
as “engineering”, “mounting / erection on board” and “casting patterns”. These activities, as well as other
activities, are directly entered at the concerning classification number in the columns for material costs and
manufacturing costs.

When assigning classification numbers it was the aim to have “ready sub-assemblies” wherever
economically justified. For example: the gate valves in suction and discharge lines of dredging system are
included in the classification number of the suction and discharge lines.

Where spare parts are required according to Classification Society these should be included at the
classification number of the relevant equipment.

Additional spare parts should be mentioned in Group 39.

This standard classification should be used when preparing:

- technical specification;
- cost estimation;
- drawings;
- purchasing;
- planning and progress control;
- distribution of work and material;
- cost accounting and re-calculation.

For orders for repair work the group numbers 90 up to and including 99 are reserved, however connected
to the relevant order number.

The assignment of these classification numbers is the responsibility of the department Services.

Important
An important condition for a good functioning of a registration and data system is the discipline to use the
correct code numbers according the rules and regulations. This is even more important where the data is
processed by computers. So a strong appeal is made to everybody of our organization to deal with the use
of classification numbers carefully.

Special attention for this issue is asked from the following departments.

Purchasing and Accounting Department

In case more than one classification number of the same group is used in one order the group number
followed by 00 can be used as collective classification number. So for group 21 this will be 21.00.
In no way costs may be accounted on this collective number.
In the margin of the order the correct classification number of each item (or part of it) should be stated
complete with a separate price for this item.
If the order contains only one total amount, these itemized prices may be derived from the total.

If the order contains more than one group number a separate ordering form has to be used.

It is the responsibility of the accounting department to enter the correct classification numbers in to the data
base of the computer system.

Engineering Department and Production Control

If a drawing contains items of more than one classification number these individual classification numbers
has to be mentioned in the parts list of that drawing.
The classification number as mentioned in the drawing number is determined by the classification number
of the major part on the drawing. It is not allowed to book the job on this classification number.

Therefore on the drawing should be mentioned the following remark:

Classification numbers should be used as mentioned in the parts list at the relevant item number.

Arrangement drawings, lay-out drawings, lists and specifications related to more than one classification
number should be entered on the concerning classification number of group 03.
An exception is made for lists of piping and lists of fittings for group 23 which are to be mentioned at 23.00

Amendments and additions

Proposals for amendments or additions should be addressed only to Document Control of IHC Merwede
Holding B.V. in consideration with the department Hoppers Estimation of IHC Holland B.V. at Kinderdijk.

It would be favorable to have a contact person for each concerning business unit to maintain the contacts
with Document Control and take care for distribution and information about the standard classification in his
own business unit.
