    What is Migration?

        National Geograpic defines human imigration as the movement


    of people from one territory to another for the purpose of taking up
    either a permanent or temporary residence. Such movement can
    be considered as voluntary or involuntary, long-term or short-
    term. This process has transpired throughout history. National
    Geograpic also categorized as "push" and "pull" factors of
    migration. The push factors are those that motivate people of
    difficulty, such as food, shortage, war, flood, etc. The pull
    factors are those that motivate people to move from their place to
    another place simply because of some desirable reasons such as
    nicer climate, better food supply, freedom, and others.  
    Types Of Migration
       The differentiation of migration stems from the fact that the
    movement of people from one place to another is of a different
    nature and reason. The following are the types of migration:

     Internal Migration- this is defined as the process where


    migrants look for a new residence within their own country,
    states, or continent. For example, there are people who
    relocate themselves from the rural areas in the same country
    for various reasons.
     External Migration- moving in a different country, state, or
    continent to a new residence.
     Migration- leaving one country to move to another.
     Immigration- moving into a new country.
     Forced Migration- this happens when the state or authorities
    force it's people to migration for a reason. 

    Why Do People Migrate?


        People migrate for various reason. The resaons may fall under
    four categories: environmental, political, cultural and
    economic.Within these categories, National Geograpic
    categorized them as "push" and "pull" factors of migration.
    The push factors are those that motivate people of difficulty, such
    as food, shortage, war, flood, etc. The pull factors are those that
    motivate people to move from their place to another place simply
    because of some desirable reasons such as nicer climate, better
    food supply, freedom, and others. 
        Consider the following situations. Decide which of them are
    push or pull factors:

     Difficult living conditions


     Affordable housing
     Government persecution
     Unemployment
     Good economic propects
     Good weather
     War or social unrest
     Safe streets
     Good schools and hospitals
     Poverty
     Lack of job oppurtunities
     Corruption
     Presence of family and friends
     Cinemas, museums, theaters, concert hall
     Bad educational system

    Immigrant is a non-native born resident of a country

    Types Of Migration

    • Internal Migration- this is defined as the process where migrants look for a new residence within
    their own country, states, or continent. For example, there are people who relocate themselves
    from the rural areas in the same country for various reasons.

    • External Migration- moving in a different country, state, or continent to a new residence.

    • Political Migration- situations related to the government, politics, laws, etc.

    • Economic Migration- situations related to money or economic opportunity

    • Social Migration- situations related to social relationship, community, and certain freedoms
    including religious freedom

    • Environmental Causes- situations related to physical features and/or natural hazards

    • Forced Migration- this happens when the state or authorities force its people to migration for a
    reason. 

    Two factors why people migrate

    Push factors are those negative influences that motivate people to relocate from one area to another

    Example: Difficult living conditions

    Pull factors are those positive (desires) influences that motivate people to relocate from one area to
    another

    Example: Good weather
