refers to the transmission of video broadcast. However, there are some podcast video and broadcast that are live.

Open Courseware and Tutorials

Open CourseWare (OCW) refers to lecture videos that are published by universities on the Web. It aims to
educate people online on different subjects and disciplines. The technology started in 1999 when the University of
Tubingen (Tuebingen) in German uploaded and published lecture videos of their faculty members. Then later on,
American universities started uploading lecture videos. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) launched its
own OCW under the program MITT Open CourseWare. Carnegie Melon University then launched its own Open
Learning Initiative. Eventually, top-ranking universities followed. Today, most of these lecture videos can be viewed
for free.
The aim of this program is to promote learning and mastery of subject areas, not just for the university
students, but for everyone. In 2012, MIT and Harvard University introduced the formation of edX, an online course
platform that offers courses to the public. The aim of this platform is to eliver a complete course package online. The
lectures are delivered through recorded videos of the lecturer. There are exercises and exams given after every
lecture that simulate a real classroom learning scenario. Today, edX can issue certificates to users who have
completed the course and passed the final examination.
On video-sharing websites, such as Vimeo, Veob, and youtube, users can freely upload their own videos. A
number of users share tutorials on a wide-variety of topics, from academic lectures to cooking recipes.
These video-sharing and courseware platform that were mentioned earlier are useful, especially the practical
tutorials which people can watch to help them do different tasks. However, there is a danger when watching video
tutorials. The information that some people could be sharing might be erroneous or untrue. This false information
may cause inconvenience to individual who access it.
There are methods to minimize the risk of accessing false information. For coursewares, you must know the
origin of the vieo lectures. Videos form top universities are usually reliable and true. The first step is to know the
organization or the individual uploading the lecture. A popular method is to know the ranking of the university
uploading the lecture. There are different websites that offer university rankings, some of which include QS
University ranking and Forbes, to name a few. For video-sharing platforms, you can check the credibility of the
person uploading the video. If it is an academic lecture video, you can check the profile of the person who uploaded
the video by searching some of his personal networking accounts, which include Google scholar, Academia,
ResearchGate, and LinkedIn. Another method is to go through the comments in the comment section of the video.
There are other individual who already watched the video and may report discrepancies or other feedback regarding
it.
