A BUSINESS PLAN FOR A RETAIL SHOP

Affordable prices following the customers are always and everywhere

Being one million rich I have decided to open a retail shop which will be operating in Senga
providing the residents with grocery goods especially convenient goods. The retail shop should
venture into other markets like the Midlands State University main campus and
Nehosho.Because capital is available I do not have to waste time, I have to start building the first
retail shop in senga so that by the end of this year 2013 I would have finished building it so that
by next year 2014 the shop would have started to save the needs of the people. The retail shop is
set to target the students, staff and other customers Midlands State University. This business
should be located in strategic areas such Senga and Nehosho where the students can easily access
to buy products at a less cost. This is for the reason that a lot of students at the university reside
off-campus and therefore they would obviously need groceries hence the reason why they will
buy from the retail and also they is need to reduce transport cost to purchase goods from town.

VISION

 Growth of the business into a large retail shop by 2018.

 To have many branches across Gweru and beyond that offer the same services in a
different style or manner.
 To be the best among the rest in retail business.

MISSION

To satisfy the needs and wants of our targeted consumers

To diversify into soft merchandise that provides superior products in a socially responsible
manner.

OBJECTIVES

 Commitment to quality

 Professionalism

 Competence

 Honesty and Integrity

 Survival and increase market share.

GOALS

 To be one of the retailers in the city

 To increase profit by 10% of sales.

 To increase the market size by locating in nearby and surrounding areas.

 To provide the best services than ever

BUSINESS CORE VALUES

 Profit maximization and financial discipline

 Put customers ahead of everything as is the purpose of the business.

 Mutual trust and respect

 Affordability.

 Honesty and integrity

 Flexibility

COMPETITORS

There are more than four (4) other retail outlets in the surrounding area, but Dawn retail shop
will have a unique way of packaging and the goods that it offers to the public. These include

 MSU Tuck shops

 Senga shopping centre (which is moving with technology they now appreciate buying
commodities using eco-cash)
Pricing Strategy

Penetration

It is charging low prices in order to attract more students and the members of the staff. As this is
a new Internet resource centre for students and staff, charging less will definitely attract many
people. The more the students who come in the more the money the resource centre gets. Profits
can also be made from this as many students will be expected to come and utilize the internet
café because of the less fees being charged.

List Pricing
This is the recommended prices. Thus might not be an advantage as a small number of people
might come at the opening.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

The products we are going to provide are the basic commodities which are mealie meal, rice,
sugar, cooking oil, bread from Bakers Inn, tinned foods among others. For our products we are
looking forward to change packaging systems and build up our own brands so as to attract our
customers that are the students, by branding our products we will beat competition from our
rivals from Senga shops through product differentiation. For example our product which is
washing powder we are going to add a bathing soap in the packet such that it will be unique.

For our product to attract customers we are going to embark on a new advertising campaign and
also sales promotions like marketing gimmicks. Also offering after sale services that is door to
door distribution if customers buy in bulk and giving discounts for buying in bulk

Lastly our products will be standardized by the SAZ which is the standard association of
Zimbabwe

OPERATIONAL PLAN

The business will not be manufacturing any products but will be rebranding and repackaging the
products to meet our customer’s needs and demands.

Location of facilities

The facilities will be located in Senga where they will be closer to the target market. The most
preferred location will be the area around the Senga are shopping centre because it is more
central and can serve the students and people residing in Senga, Nehosho and the main campus

The business will require a large space to operate from that includes a warehouse or large
storeroom in order to be able to stock the wares and products.

The equipment required will be shelves, electronic scales, till points, electronic registers, bar
code scanners, closed circuit cameras, catering equipment and butchery equipment. Basically this
will also be the minimum equipment required to start operations.

The business will have a butchery department like all modern supermarkets. It will also have a
delicatessen department to cater for the surrounding people who want readymade and fast foods.
Also as the business is to cater for different sections the money which we have will help us to
have workers who will help in the development of the business. Chief executive officer,
managing director, and so on should be employed in the business and a small number of till
operators who will be able to work in the shops.

In conclusion, the retail shop is set to target the students, staff and other customers Midlands
State University. This business should be located in strategic areas such Senga and Nehosho
where the students can easily access to buy products at a less cost. This is for the reason that a lot
of students at the university reside off-campus and therefore they would obviously need
groceries hence the reason that a lot of students at the university reside off-campus and therefore
they would obviously need groceries hence the reason why they will buy from the retail and also
they is need to reduce transport cost to purchase goods from town.

I hope and trust that this will be a successful business which will bring out better living
conditions to the society.
