Activity 1
1. Based from your readings and understanding of the module that I have
given for P.E 4 Recreation and Leisure Activities, how will you put in your
own words the meaning of recreation?
- For me recreation means an any outdoor doings or activity under- taken for
the purpose of exercise, relaxation or pleasure, including practice or instruction
in any such activity.
2. What are the different social factors affecting recreation? Briefly explain
each.
1. Increase in Discretionary Time - The growth of individual discretionary
time has long been considered a major influence in the increased
participation in recreation activities.
2. National Affluence—or Not! - A second critical factor stemmed from
the dramatic growth of the gross national product (GNP) and personal
income.
3. Commodification of Leisure - This contrast is heightened by what has
been termed the “commodification” of leisure.
4. Population Trends- In October 2006, the U.S. population passed the
300-million mark, making the United States the third most populous
nation in the world behind China and India. The steady growth in the
population and diversity has increasing impacts on recreation demand
and participation.
5. Where People Live: Urban, Suburb, Exurb History has recorded the
decline of rural populations, the growth of cities and industrialization,
the growth of suburbs and exurbs, the decline of the inner city, and the
simultaneous revitalization of cities and urban areas. In the 1950s,
people began to commute into the city.
6. Influence of Technology Over the past several decades, sophisticated
technology has played a key role in providing new forms of play for the
American population.
7. Recreation’s Contribution to Health and Fitness - A key trend
continuing in our society is public interest in exercise and physical
fitness programs.
8. Environmental Concerns –
9. The Changing Family Over the last 30 years, families have changed
more than in the previous 200 years
10. Maturation of Organized Leisure-Service Field

3. What do you think are the challenges being faced by recreation during
this pandemic? Justify your answer.
- For me it is the time and space of recreational activities to be done
because of this pandemic other doings in recreation like traveling,
hiking, adventures, going to parks will not be done anymore because
of this pandemic. Also doing recreation activities is now limited
because of this.
4. During this pandemic how do you keep yourself occupied and busy? What
recreational activities makes you busy?
- I keep myself busy through doing such a recreational and leisure
activity like movie marathon, doing home chores and other enjoyable
routine activities. Through that I can keep myself busy.
Activity 2
1. What was the relationship among recreation, leisure and play?
Recreation, Play, and Leisure all have one thing in common: they all center
upon activity. An activity can be conscious or unconscious, and integrated into
a daily routine. There are many benefits of activity such as stress and coping
skills, feeling accomplished, engaging the mind, preventing social isolation,
staying healthy, becoming motivated, and gaining satisfaction. Activities have
a purpose and expected outcome. Although there are many benefits to
activity, there can also be factors that get in the way. For example, sometimes
time and money put a strain on the activities that I can do. Various situations
put a wedge between people and activities, such as, distance, health, social
circles, ability, age, and transportation.
2. What are the different meaning of leisure based on your modules?
● Leisure as a symbol of social class - the ruling classes together with the extremely
wealthy people has identified themselves sharply through the possesion and use of
leisure. The possesion and visible use of leisure became the hallmark of the upper class
in 19th century.

● Leisure as unobligated time the most common approach to leisure is to regard it as

unobligated time. It is the free time after the practical necessities of life have been
attended to ...

● Leisure as activity - it an activity in which people engage during their free time. For
example, reading books, going to a museum, watching a film and etc. Any activity
relating to a free time or leisure can be defined as leisure as activity.
● Leisure as a state of being marked by freedom - this places the emphasis on the
perceived freedom of the activity and on the role of leisure involvement in helping the
individual achieve personnal fulfillment and self enrichment.

● Leisure as spiritual expression - this kind sees it in terms of contribution to spiritual

expression or religious values. Leisure and religion can be linked to form harmonously
the sprirituality of man.
● Classical view of leisure - for Aristotle as the classic personality," it is a state of being in
which activity is performed for it's own sake." It is something that contrasted with work
or purposeful action rather that makong arts, and etc.
3. Enumerate the different theories associated with play and choose one theory that

of another's clan). The tagged player from the main group automatically becomes an ally of the
tagger. The more players, the better. The game will start with only one it and then try to find
and tag other players. Once one player is tagged, he or she then will help the it to tag the other
players until no other participant is left. Some people also know this a Bansai.
Tumbang Preso

Tumbang Preso is a popular Filipino street game also known as Presohan.

The game requires 3 or more players. Each player is provided with a large throw-away object
(could be slippers or a shoe) called "pamato". A semi-flattened empty tin or plastic container
(the size of an 8 or 12 oz. tins) is placed in upright position 6 or 8 meters from the throwing line.
A player is drawn as the prisoner (usually through a system like Jack en Poy). The prisoner will
guard the empty tin or container.

The other players stand at the throwing line. They take turns throwing their "pamato" at the
empty tin, trying to knock it down. As soon as the can is knocked down, the prisoner must put
back the tin in upright position before he can tag the any of the players attempting to recover
their "pamato". If the "pamato" becomes too close to the tin in an upright position, so that the
prisoner can step on both with one foot, the owner of the "pamato" becomes the new
"prisoner". The prisoner can also tag the players while recovering their "pamato" outside the
throwing line.
After each throw, a player must recover his "pamato". Should he be tagged by the prisoner
before he reaches the throwing line, he becomes the prisoner in the next game.

Harangang taga - try to cross my line without letting me touch or catch you - Each member of
the group who is it stands on the water lines. The perpendicular line in the middle allows

agreed upon will play first. The next nearest is second, and so on.

This game involves 2 players. One covers his eyes with a hand while the other flicks a finger
(pitik) over the hand covering the eyes. The person with the covered eyes gives a number with

in the game.

to the tasting sessions above and is sure to unite those who love a good G&T.
You can provide your team with a shopping list and tasting note sheet, or choose to go for a delivery
service like one from Bass & Flinders Distillery, Great Ocean Road Gin or GinTonica.

Trivia
There’s nothing like a few rounds of trivia to get your team working together!
Everyone loves a fun round of trivia, especially when there’s prizes involved. Trivia not only
encourages teamwork, but is also a chance for your team to find out more about their co-workers
interests.
Depending on the size of your company, you could split the groups up into different teams, e.g.
marketing, sales or finance. Alternatively, you could mix it up and randomly assign people to teams.

 Run club
If your team is working from home, chances are they’re enjoying all of the benefits associated with
remote work — like more time to spend running!
Use an app like Strava to create a running group. In this app, you’ll be able to see everyones times and
routes, and keep each other accountable.
You could have a competition for the fastest time or furthest distance, and entice your team with fun
prizes to keep everyone moving.

Cutest pet competition

A fan favourite at Employment Hero is our cutest pet competition. With many remote workers
looking for companionship in all of the fluffy places, chances are there’s a few pet friends in the team.
At the start of the week, share the competition with the closing date and the prize and ask your team
to submit away!
If you have a company-wide staff meeting at the end of the week, use this opportunity to announce
the winner and share a pic of the cutest furry friend.
Guess the emoji sentence
This fun game requires a little preparation, but the possibilities (and laughs) are endless!
To get started, you will each take turns at being the creator. The creator must come up with a
sentence, but only communicate the answer in emojis.

could be the perfect game for your team.

their video call. Players can use their phone or tablet to enter their own game room via a website and
their device becomes their controller.

Quiz Up

Objective-Encouraging the spirit of learning amongst the employees. Enough of learning new things,
and now it's time to test how much your employees know. Since it's a fast-paced event, it'll challenge
all your teams to give their best and win whatever is up for grabs. You can prepare questions around
various topics related to business, technology, culture, geography, current events, and many more
based on your preference. Here, you can also arrange a few helplines like for example -Allowing a
team to get help from any other team a maximum of two times. if the answer is correct, the point will
be divided among both groups. Sounds interesting, isn't it? Therefore, making this game of wit even
more interesting for your remote employees.

Meetings over Lunch

Objective-Boost your employee relations. Socializing with colleagues is very important for ensuring
healthy workplace relationships. An important thing that your employees miss while working from
different locations is going out for lunch with peers, which is one of the best ways to socialize.

However, you can fill this void by organizing meetings over lunch via video conference. It will make
your employees feel good when they all meet each other over lunch, even if it's virtual to discuss any
important matter or just get involved in some fun chat. Make it a point to keep holding such meetings
frequently so that your remote team members feel connected.

Solve It!
Objective-Encouraging out-of-the-box thinking and implementation of ideas. While planning for any
team-building program, you must also keep some room for activities that requires a lot of
brainstorming.

Werewolf
Werewolf is a game of manipulation and deceit, making it an interesting game to play with your co-
workers!
Werewolf is more complex than other games on this list, and requires the rules to be explained
beforehand.
The game starts with a deck of cards that has a role on it. These roles will include:

 Werewolf – eat other players

 Villager – vote on who they believe is the werewolf
 Medic – can rescue a player from near-death of the werewolf
