1. Present the new vocabulary using the flashcards.

2. Have Ps open their books to page 28 and direct their attention to the vocabulary section at the top of the
page .
3. Sat the word / phrase again in random order and have Ps repeat and point.

5. Follow instructions in the Teacher’s Book for Activity 4 .
ACTIVITIES
6. Prepare a matching activity with verbs + nouns/noun phrases from listening text (see transcript on
Teacher’s Book), e.g. 'dry + hair', 'wrap + present'. Have pupils do this activity Focus on pupils’
understanding of the meaning of these verb phrases.
7. Follow the instructions in the Teacher’s Book for Activity 5 (CD1 – Track 41). You could adapt this
activity to be more like the ‘line jumping’ activity or to include movement in another way

8. Play ‘Spot the differences’ as revision of the lesson .

Pre-lesson
1. Present new vocabulary using the flashcards.

Lesson delivery
2. Use the Background Note (see Teacher’s Book) to set the scene for the story. Explain as much as possible
in simple, clear English, and use some of pupils’ own language where necessary.
3. Follow the instructions for Vocabulary (CD 1 – Track 42) in the Teacher’s Book.
4. Tell pupils they will read about ‘The Curse’. Ask pupils to discuss some prediction questions with their
partner (e.g. What did Carter and Carnarvon find in the desert/tomb?). You could put the questions on the
ACTIVITIES board, or you could put them on a worksheet. Encourage pupils to explain their predictions when giving
feedback.
5. Ask pupils to read the text in the Student’s Book. Then they check their predictions.
6. Ask pupils to read the text again and tell each other a personal response (e.g. what they found interesting,
how they would feel if they found a tomb entrance in the jungle). You could put these questions on a
worksheet to keep the pupils focused on the task.

1. Introduce the poem ‘Sand Castle’.
2. Recite the poem aloud to the pupils.

Lesson delivery
1. Pupils recite the poem together.
2. Put up an empty Sand Castle mind map on the board (see Worksheet 1).
3. Ask the pupils to call out words related to the beach. Write the words in Part A.
Example: sandcastle, crabs, swimming, jelly fish, fishing, etc.
ACTIVITIES 4. Next, ask the pupils how or where they learned about the beach.
Write the words in Part B.
Example: books/magazines, Internet, television, their trip to the beach
5. Distribute Worksheet 1 to the pupils. Get the pupils to create their own Sand Castle mind map on the topic:
At the beach.
6. Using their Sand Castle mind map, pupils write a short paragraph about their experience at the beach.
