    To Whom It May Concern,

    It is with extreme pleasure that I write this letter of reference and recommendation for
    Crystal Wu who serves our students as a Fourth Grade teacher. I have had many
    opportunities to observe her instruction during distance learning. She is a capable and
    talented educator.

    The most important things that you should know about Crystal Wu are that she is
    professional, goal-orientated, flexible, creative, energetic, and highly effective in the
    classroom. When comparing her teaching to the six California Standards of the
    Teaching Profession, it is easy to see that her strongest areas are Engaging and
    Supporting Students in Learning and Creating and Maintaining an Effective
    Environment for Students. In an unprecedented time when learning shifted online,
    Crystal has built strong relationships with the students in room 26. When many teachers
    struggled to navigate distance learning and new technologies, Crystal was sailing
    smoothly along with the new platform. Her peaceful, graceful demeanor helped
    students to feel comfortable even when physically separated. The delivery of core
    content to her students has been seamless.

    Mrs. Wu has run a well ordered and effective classroom. It is clear to any observer that
    she understands and is able to organize subject matter in a way that is appropriate for
    student learning. She is consistently well prepared and is knowledgeable of all material.
    When teaching, she scaffolds students’ prior knowledge, addresses subject matter in a
    variety of ways to meet the different learning styles of students, and then checks for
    understanding. Mrs. Wu is highly effective in her direct instruction and she is able to
    help students who have difficulties. She easily switches between direct teaching, small
    group instruction, and whole group collaboration. She consistently demonstrates
    patience with students who need concepts explained multiple times. She is respectful of
    her students and enforces respect within student peer groups.

    Mrs. Wu meets with her grade level team weekly to plan for the upcoming lessons. She
    prepares instructional plans that include goals, objectives, strategies, activities, and
    assessments. She adeptly integrates art and technology across all subjects taught
    including math, language arts, science, social studies, and social emotional learning.
    Most of all, Crystal accepts the learners in her classroom, regardless of their ability, and
    designs instruction to remove barriers to their learning. It has been a pleasure to work
    with Crystal and know that I can count on her to develop confident, autonomous
    learners.

    Due to the failure of a local parcel tax and the loss of 4 million dollars to the district’s
    general fund, 40 teaching positions in our district have to be cut. Tragically, Crystal’s
    position is impacted by these cuts. It is painful to lose such an excellent
    teacher. Should the opportunity arise, I will rehire Crystal in a heartbeat.
