FAMILY BACKGROUND:
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:
My parents have always encouraged me to educate and work myself in the field that
I was interested. In the 10th standard I scored 62.20 % in March 2011 from Gujarat
State Education Board. After that I took admission in Higher Secondary School
affiliated to Gujarat State Higher Education Board and took science stream. In
standard 12th, I secured 57.83% in March 2013. I expected my result in the 12th grade
wouldn’t be good as I fell sick during my final exams and so I wasn’t able to perform
well, but I dint let it deter me from my goal which I had set for myself and worked
hard and diligently during my Bachelor degree, I knew I wanted to get into the field
of Civil Engineering as I am very passionate to know about things work around me
since my childhood. After that I took admission in Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and
completed it in May 2017 with 6.89 out of 10 CGPA from Gujarat Technological
University. My undergraduate study was a richly rewarding experience, during which I
have participated various Industrial training programs.
I was always firm on pursing my further studies from any of the abroad country, but
my parents wanted me to pursue job in India to gain the industry exposure. So, I
joined Samarth Corporation as a Site Supervisor from September 2017 to till date on
an unpaid internship (I have enclosed the work proof in the visa file). During this
time, I did undergo few of the companies interview regarding the job but the kind of
the package that was been offered to me being a fresher was very much low. Even
when I discussed with few of my seniors who are been working the package that they
are been currently getting is very much low. So, I thought that rather than working in
India after my bachelor studies it’s better to undertake master studies from an
abroad university. This is not to downgrade the Indian Universities but to state a fact
about the subtle difference between learning the course and understanding a
discipline. I have studied for my Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) in one of the finest
institutes in India, and the one thing that I found lacking was the concurrence and
permeability with actual industries that offer work to us after we have learnt the
subjects.
In Abroad, there is greater stress on how the course we study will connect with our
tasks and performance when we venture from the classroom to the work station,
earning our salary and this remains the key element for my decision to study abroad.
Even the studies in abroad are more focused on the practical side Thus, I started my
research on the country preference and after consulting many seniors and surfing on
various websites by taking into consideration the ranking. I finalized to pursue
Master of Management for Engineers from Central Queensland University. As IELTS is
a requirement to undertake admission into any of the university for the admission I
prepared for the same along with my job and appeared for the IELTS on 3 rd March
2018 and secured 5.5 bands overall. (IELTS Score enclosed in visa file). As my IELTS
scores didn’t meet the direct requirement of the master course I have to undertake
10 weeks of Elicos prior to my master studies.
After securing the bands I applied for the admission on 6 th April 2018 and received
an interview call from the university and after clearing the interview I received the
offer letter on 11th April 2018. After securing the offer I started the finance
arrangement as per the guidance by my agent and submitted the documents to the
university for the further process on 5 th May 2018 and received the approval on 14th
May 2018 and paid the fees on 15th May 2018.
I made necessary research for different course options where I can study in my
master’s degree in my home country. I found that I have very limited study options in
India. We have Master of Business Administration, Master of Engineering (Civil
Engineering), Master of Technology etc. Also, I found that the syllabus is not very
updated, and it’s not even field oriented. Even the faculties are not aware and
updated with the advanced technology and new teaching practices. I have
completed my Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) and have been involved in Civil
Industry, after which I wish to pursue some other specialization in my master’s
degree. I would rather wish to have additional skill set in me along with my technical
degree. I want to learn and understand the actual functional and practical
implementation of what I have learnt till date. Initially I wasn’t that keen to pursue my
master studies but after facing facts and the realities I realized that it’s better to
undertake a master studies as it would give an edge to my career. So, I wasn’t that
keen to pursue my studies from India again, because seeing the education system
and pattern of the study I realized that I won’t be able to get much exposure in my
master’s degree. So, I thought to undertake the post-graduation studies from
Australia. Secondly in India, it involves a lot of entrance examination too like GATE
which is very much tough to crack and above that it is been given by 3-4 lakhs
students, so the admission criteria are too high. This is above all the reservation
quota system doesn’t allow all the deserved candidate to secure admission. Student
doesn’t have any kind of internship provision available into the curriculum. I shared
my opinion and research with my family. My family, especially my cousin brother has
always inspired by my idea of going in a foreign country and gain an international
experience and exposure. I finally decided to gain my master’s degree internationally.
My reason for going abroad to study for master’s in management for Engineers has
been a long-considered one. It did not happen spontaneously in short there was a
time when I did reflect studying for my Masters in India. As recently in 2014, there
were courses available in my home country that seemed to satisfy employers and
secure jobs, but this is no longer the case. I feel that over the past four years there
has been a radical shift, a transformation in expectations where international and
reputed firms are concerned. They want candidates who are well-versed and
comfortable in the International climate and who have not only studied there but
who exude the temperament of people who can deal with the International business
community at a comfort level that is possible only when one has spent a few years in
a foreign country, preferably as an International student. The main reason I desire to
study Master of Management for engineers is because it is completely new and yet
entirely related with my past studies and essentially required to sketch my future
professional career more effectively. Basically, I come from technical background
where I have completed my under-graduate studies in Civil Engineering. Through this
I have exceled in my technical aspects but during my entire curriculum of studies
since higher secondary studies I never studied anything about business, commerce
and managerial aspects which also forma an equivalent part of our professional role
because for any individual, according to me market and analysis is must to
understand the ongoing trends of markets, customer choice and most importantly to
understand our own organization its team and its ultimate goal so to accomplish the
entire work in systematic way which can satisfy everyone needs and requirement
including every stakeholder of company.
Although many of graduates at your university are recruited by larger employers, the
breadth of this course means that graduates are flexible enough to excel in smaller
organization which rely on multi-skilled employees, the course in the program
contribute to management of engineering projects, Programs and organization. This
program will help me to identify my career opportunities and meliorate
employability. The course structure consists of 16 subjects who include 12 core
subjects and four electives inclusive such as Research in Business, Strategic Business
Management and Professional Projects which cover business analysis in market
scenario. It also includes People and Organization, Organizational Governance and
leadership, Operational Management, Innovation and Sustainable business
development, Project Management Concept, System Science and Engineering,
Accounting and Management Decision Making, Management Law. The best part
about this course is that it would give me ten weeks of internship in this program.
The program has 10 weeks of internship included in the course which will give me
practical exposure.
When I was comparing university within Australia I found the similar courses in La
Trobe University, Deakin University, Victoria University, Charles Sturt University and
Central Queensland University wherein I found that Deakin was providing Masters of
Engineering (Professional) with a specialization in engineering management but did
not have an entire course oriented with management for engineers and the fees is
$32000 AUD fees per year, La Trobe was having $31500 AUD per year, Victoria
University is in Footskray which I have searched has subjected to few violent
incidences thus I am not keen to go to that University.
Preferring CQU has the advantage of multiple campus facility, small class sizes,
acceptable tuition fee structure, very good graduate employment rate which is
81.1%, mentorship support and internship included in almost all their programs. I
have gone through CQU history which was established in 1967 at Rock Hampton.
Secondly, its campuses are in the main cities of Australia. I have read many reviews
from students who studied with CQ University. University’s main campus is in Rock
Hampton, but I selected Melbourne campus, as it’s located in the center of the city.
Public transportation is easily available from this campus.
The Student Services is located on Level 1. My friends who are already studying in
CQU has also informed me that in Australia Student Adviser is available to assist me
with any aspect of my life and study in Australia, such as adjusting to life in Australia
or to a new education system, dealing with personal and emotional issues, managing
with a disability, visa issues or accommodation and the best part is it is free and
confidential service. I was very much glad to know this as so many years I have
always been so much attached to my family and by receiving such support I would
not feel home sick.
Also, I believe in a University like CQU if your own faculties know a student by his
name then definitely that student is in the right place and CQU precisely fits in that
criteria as per my opinion. CQ University has a variety of campuses and learning
centers in different areas. At present, it has 15 campuses in cities of Australia such as
in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Mackey, Cairns, Perth etc. CQU is being ranked
among the best universities in the world, claiming a spot within the Top 500 list of
the prestigious and well-respected Times Higher Education World University
Rankings 2016-17 –. The Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) 2015 results show
CQUniversity is conducting research rated as at, above, and well above world
standards across various research categories. The qualification from CQU is
worldwide recommended. It has library services and student welfare support for all
international students.
REASON TO RETURN
FUTURE GOALS:
Taking into consideration the market demand and supply, importance of CQU
qualification here in India after completion and the overall economy and the
employability. I would like to elaborate my point of view. Firstly, I took this decision
of pursuing my qualification from an international country after taking time and
understanding the demand of Indian employers from the candidate thus I have a
strong estimate on the probability on my career growth and as to on what pace it
would go demanding on my future steps, so it was not that I took this decision soon
my bachelor’s wherein I was completely unaware.
Also, if I were to stay in India with my existing profile then taking into consideration
the 16% growth in normal private limited company I would get a salary of INR
250,000 per annum within the next 2 years in a place like Gujarat and if I move to
other metropolitan cities like Bangalore, Delhi and Pune I would be aiming at
package of 500,000 INR per annum wherein 50% costing would go in the living
expenses thus ending up in the same package which I would get in India. Also, by
pursuing my master’s here in India after investing 2 years will help me to get a job in
multinational mentioned with a starting salary of 350,000-400,000 lakhs per annum
after investing 10 lakhs which is equivalent of 40,000 AUD for two years wherein
definitely my return on investment is not justified and I may not even meet the
breakeven.
Further to this I would like to quote that I have given this estimation by doing a
research on Naukri.com, Monster.com, Indeed.com wherein companies such as R B
Construction Co, Cube Construction Engineering Ltd, SCC INFRASTRUCTURE PVT.
LTD, Ravin Construction Company etc. wherein I found out that the requirements in
their criteria was a Master degree holder student and that the remuneration which
they were offering had a range of difference between the salary of a fresher and
Masters qualification holder thus I am sure that after gaining an international
qualification and also after gaining an international exposure I am sure I am
expecting the right one.
However, on the other end if I complete my Master of Management for Engineers
from CQU Australia wherein the graduate employment rate is 81.1% with 10 weeks of
practical exposure included in the course I would get a lot international exposure in
terms of market research and industry base.
My research draws me to a conclusion that in the coming few years, Civil will be the
one the most demanded and important branch of engineering. Moreover, there is an
increasing demand from customers to deal with people familiar with the technical
aspects of a product and who are also experts in business management and
customer relationships. Engineering Management is an exciting opportunity to
combine your love of technology with your passion for business. This course will
broaden my career opportunities by developing your skills in technology application
and development, combined with business management. I would be having a vast
option for me to grow and shall be eligible to work as Business Analyst, Plant
supervisors, Engineering Consultants, Project Assistant, and technical Advisor in
companies like National Builders Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd, Nila Infrastructures Limited,
Patel Infrastructure Limited, Ghanshyam Construction wherein the average salary
package I am looking forward is between six to seven lakhs per annum which is
worth the investment I would have made while pursuing my degree.
