What is Closed Circuits Television?

Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
a. Understand what CCTV is.
b. Identify the different types of camera.

Introduction
Closed-circuit television (CCTV), also known as video surveillance, is
the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited
set of monitors. It differs from broadcast television in that the signal is not
openly transmitted, though it may employ point-to-point (P2P), point-to-
multipoint (P2MP), or mesh wired or wireless links. Though almost all video
cameras fit this definition, the term is most often applied to those used for
surveillance in areas that may need monitoring such as banks, stores, and
other areas where security is needed. Though video telephony is seldom
called "CCTV" one exception is the use of video in distance education, where
it is an important tool.
It is a system used to transmit video signals from CCTV cameras to
monitors or recorders. It is called “closed-circuit” because the signals are
not broadcast publicly, but are accessed by certain authorized users.
What are the two main types of CCTV cameras?
 Dome CCTV Camera. Dome CCTV Cameras are most commonly used
for indoor security and surveillance applications. ...
 Bullet CCTV Camera. ...
 C-Mount CCTV Camera. ...
 Day/Night CCTV Camera. ...
 Infrared/Night Vision CCTV Camera. ...
 Network/IP CCTV Camera. ...
 Wireless CCTV Camera. ...
 High-Definition HD CCTV Camera.
What are the two types of video recorder?
DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is
the cameras and cabling they use. A
network video recorder (NVR) records IP
cameras wirelessly (Wi-Fi NVR) or via
Ethernet cables (PoE NVR), while a digital
video recorder (DVR) records analog
cameras via coaxial cable.

That's to say, the NVR is for IP camera recording and the DVR is for analog
or coax-based camera recording.
Security Camera Applications

With their wide range of styles and features, security cameras are
common in most industries around the world. These applications can range
from theft and vandalism deterrence to traffic and weather monitoring and
more. By combining advanced camera features with sturdy outdoor
housings or discreet camera design, an IP camera can be installed in almost
any location. This makes them ideal for monitoring inside and outside of
businesses and offices, recording in remote locations, or recording high
quality video to identify suspicious people.
Prevent Copper Theft
Copper theft is a common problem on construction
sites and with electric utilities companies, but your
business doesn't need to be a victim — a modern,
updated security system with real-time monitoring
by trained security professionals can help you be
aware of what happens on your site and react
quickly to prevent theft.

Remote Video Monitoring

As a business owner, one of your top priorities is
protecting your property against theft and break-
ins as well as dishonest employees. Thanks to
advancements in security technology, you can
rely on remote security experts to monitor your
system live and react quickly to any activity on
your site.

Facility Protection
Secure the perimeter of your property with HD video
surveillance cameras to thwart trespassers and
create a safer environment. Protecting your facility
with security cameras plays a critical role in
improving operations and preventing criminal acts.
Monitor Operations
Stay connected to your daily operations by
monitoring them with your surveillance system.
This allows you to manage store lines, employee
activities, and streamline workflow based on live

or recorded video footage of your business or organization during working
hours.
Loss Prevention
If your business stocks expensive equipment or
handles large amounts of merchandise, it is
important to protect those assets. You can
quickly log into the system if any alarms are
triggered on locked doors to see what happened,
and identify the possible thief with an HD IP
camera.
Vandalism Deterrence
Visible video surveillance cameras are often a
deterrent to vandals because of the possibility
they can be identified on the video. Using HD
cameras for facial recognition and a camera in a
durable vandal-proof housing, you can protect
your home, business, or office from damage.
Employee Safety
Stay in compliance with safety regulations by
investing in video surveillance system for your
business or organization. Increased employee
safety can also protect the employer from
frivolous employee lawsuits by giving an
impartial view of an incident.
Parking Lots
There is a lot to monitor for in parking lots—
potential accidents and damage to vehicles, theft,
or vandalism. With a powerful HD video
surveillance system, however, you can monitor
even the largest parking lots with clear megapixel
video of any suspicious activity or accidents

Public Safety
Parks, communities, and neighborhoods — all
public spaces — should be outfitted with video
surveillance systems to help deter crime and
enhance public safety. Law enforcement can also
view video directly from their smartphones,
enabling quicker response times.

Monitoring traffic, whether it's to count the cars passing through or to
improve the flow of traffic for better travel times, can be a challenge.
Outdoor cameras are designed to withstand harsh weather, and HD
cameras can clearly record even fast moving cars in challenging light.

Internet Security Systems

IP, or internet protocol, video surveillance
cameras use the power of internet networking to
send and receive data. This makes them easy to
install and connect to your system, and you can
view live camera feeds at any time with free
mobile apps for smartphones and tablets.

Design Layout for CCTV System
Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
a. Understand the CCTV layout.

b. Identify the drawing symbol in CCTV layout

c. Make a CCTV layout/ floor plan

Introduction
A drawing meant to depict the physical arrangement of the wires and
the components they connect is called artwork or layout, physical design, or
wiring diagram. Circuit diagrams are used for the design (circuit design),
construction (such as PCB layout), and maintenance of electrical and
electronic equipment.

1. Schematic Diagrams
Schematic electrical wiring diagrams are different from other wiring
diagrams because they show the flow through the circuit rather than the
physical layout of any equipment. A schematic is best described as an
impression of the circuit and wiring than a genuine representation.
Schematics can be used for general information about the flow of the
current as well as troubleshooting a circuit since they show wiring and
components using specific symbols that actually show the function of
equipment within the circuit; however, these symbols don’t look like the
equipment itself.
The system flow is shown by a series of horizontal and vertical lines, much
like a normal CCTV wiring diagram. However, in this case, the lines show
the flow of the system rather than the actual physical placement of the wires
within the system. It’s an CCTV wiring diagram that’s aimed more at
designers and technicians who work with the theory of the circuit.
Schematics will not be ideal for anyone who plans on working on the circuit
as it is in the house.

2. Wiring Diagram
A wiring diagram is the most common form of the electrical wiring
diagram. Unlike a schematic, it’s concerned with the connections between
the different parts of a circuit or parts of an entire electrical system. Wiring
and equipment on the wiring diagram are carefully laid out to show the
approximate location of equipment in the circuit and thus, within the home.
This makes it far more useful as a reference and guide for anyone wanting to
work on a home’s electrical.
The components within the circuit are represented by a series of pictorials
and these accurately resemble the components within the system so they
can be easily identified. While the horizontal and vertical lines of a
schematic show the circuit’s flow, lines in a wiring diagram instead
represent the physical wiring of the circuit.

3. Pictorial

The least useful of the main CCTV wiring diagrams is the pictorial
diagram and for this reason alone, it’s not commonly used. It makes no
attempt to be an accurate representation of the circuit but concentrates on
the components in the circuit.
How to create a CCTV Diagram
Closed circuit television (CCTV) is a video monitoring system. CCTV
systems are based on the strategic placement of video cameras, which
capture and transmit videos to either a private network of monitors for real-
time viewing or to a video recorder for later reference. CCTV is commonly
used for surveillance and security purposes.
Step1: Obtain a copy of a floor
layout of the Building or
Residential.
Step 2: Use libraries supplied
with the Floor Plans solution to
depict the layout of the premises
and other floor plan details.

Step 3: Open the Video

surveillance library (Security
and Access Plans solution)
containing objects used for
CCTV schemes.
Step 4: The best way to get
quick access to frequently used
objects located in different
libraries is to create your own
custom library. To do this, open
the File menu and select
Library, then New. An empty
library box will appear in the Library panel.

Step 5: Drag and drop shapes from

the drawing page to the new library.
Step 6: Set the shapes properties
using context menu.

Step 7: Set the library

properties using context
menu.

Step 8: Save the library.

Step 9: Use the new library

Tools, Materials and Equipment used in CCTV installation

Learning Objectives:
After reading this INFORMATION SHEET, YOU MUST be able to:
a. Enumerate the tools, materials and equipment in CCTV.
b. identify the tools and materials for CCTV.
c. explain the usage of each tools and equipment.

Introduction

Everyone knows that having the right tool for the job saves time,
money, and headaches. That is especially true with installing Security
Cameras as each trip up and down the ladder is costing you money. The
table below will explain the materials, tools and equipment in CCTV system.

Materials needed in CCTV installation

Different types of Camera
A dome CCTV camera gets its
name from the dome-shaped
casing that the camera sits in.
Whilst these are relatively discreet
CCTV cameras in appearance,
this doesn’t stop them from
deterring criminals. This is
because the dome casing makes it
really difficult for people to see
which direction the camera is
pointing. This creates an air of
uncertainty for potential thieves
or vandals approaching from all
directions.
Bullet CCTV cameras have an
iconic design that is highly visible.
They are cylindrical in shape and
are capable of observing long
distances. Bullet cameras are
most commonly placed outdoors
so their casings are made
resistant to water, dust and dirt.

C-Mount CCTV cameras are the

ideal option for those who may
wish to adapt the field of vision.
They are equipped with
detachable lenses that can be
switched around to monitor
varying distances. C-Mount
cameras are typically bulky so,
like bullet cameras, act as a
visible deterrent to criminal
activity.
With a PTZ (Pan Tilt & Zoom)
camera, your security team can
have complete control on what is
recorded. At the touch of a
button, the camera lens can pan
left and right, tilt up and down or
zoom in and out. It’s the ideal
choice if you have a security
guard who is monitoring a live
video feed on site

Night CCTV Cameras These

cameras have been built
specifically to operate effectively,
regardless of how well lit their
environment is. During both
daytime and night-time, they will
record clear video images that will
not be obscured by differing light
conditions. This is achieved
through their extra sensitive
imaging chips

Infrared/Night Vision CCTV

Cameras
As the name suggests, these
cameras are designed to operate
optimally in pitch black
conditions. They achieve this by
using infrared technology. Infrared
models are more expensive than
day/night cameras and those
opting for this option usually do
so because night recording is vital
to the security of their business
Network/IP CCTV Cameras
These cameras share live footage
across the internet so images can
be easily accessed from anywhere
on the globe. The bandwidth of
the video is compressed, in order
to make the online feed reliable.
Archive footage is stored on
network video recorders (NVRs) or
on secure software for later access

Wireless CCTV cameras were

created to minimize installation
time. They also make the
appearance of the camera much
tidier, which may be an important
factor for locations such as
churches, museums or stately
homes

HD CCTV cameras offer an

unrivalled picture quality that
delivers high clarity images.
Depending on your budget, they
can deliver resolutions of 720p, all
the way up to 4K. Therefore,
there’s no danger that the subject
of recordings will ever appear
grainy or distorted.

CCTV accessories

A digital video recorder (DVR) is

an electronic device that records
video in a digital format to a disk
drive, USB flash drive, SD memory
card, SSD or other local or
networked mass storage device

A hard disk is part of a unit --

often called a disk drive, hard
drive or hard disk drive -- that
stores and provides relatively
quick access to large amounts of
data on an electromagnetically
charged surface or set of surfaces.
Today's computers typically come
with a hard disk that can contain
anywhere from billions to trillions
of bytes of storage.

One of the primary power tools security

installers use are battery powered drills. We
examine them in detail in Power Drill
Selection Guide, and the best model and
type selected depends on the variables like
typical camera install location, common
power tools used for battery compatibility,
and length of use between charges.

The most common ladders used for security

install are step ladders, which consist of an
A-shaped frame with steps for rungs on one
side, usually the most ideal mix of height
and being light enough to carry onsite.

Testing and Installation Guide for CCTV System

Learning Objectives
After reading this information sheet, you should be able to
a. Install the CCTV System properly
b. Identify the proper procedure in installing CCTV System

INTRODUCTION
Before we dive into technicalities, we need to discuss first the
guidelines on how to install indoor CCTV. Guidelines aren’t just about
making the installation easier, but to ensure that your security system fits
your property’s security needs.

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE INSTALLATION

 The camera should be installed between 8 and 13ft above the area to
be monitored
 Before screwing in the mount for the camera ensure there are no
obstructions in the camera’s view
 Place cameras in the most strategic places where they can provide
detailed, recorded video of every visitor.
 Having the camera in the open for people to see can help deter
criminals
 To cover large, dark areas such as backyards, garages, and
driveways, place cameras in strategic locations, such as on the roof
or deck, this way, less cameras are needed to cover an area
 Ensure that the sunshade is positioned to avoid glare and be sure to
position camera away from direct sunlight or other light sources
 For best results, the light in front of the camera should be about the
same brightness as the light around the area or object being
monitored
 Decide whether the camera will be wall-mounted, ceiling mounted or
sit on a desk/table top. If you are mounting the camera on a wall
or ceiling, use the included mounting hardware. We recommend
that the mounting bracket is secured using the included screws for
all installations
 Each camera comes with 60ft of video/power wire please make sure
that you mount the cameras no more than 60ft from the DVR. If
longer wiring distance is required, 60ft extensions can be
purchased (CVW 62 ) from your local re-seller or at www.SVAT.com
 We recommend using a surge protected power bar to protect the
camera’s internal circuit.

DO’S AND DON’T’S IN CCTV CAMERA INSTALLATION

Learning Objectives
After reading this information sheet, you should be able to
a) Apply the manual guidelines in installing the CCTV.
b) Use the DOS and DON’TS in installing the CCTV.

Introduction:
When considering the security systems, keep in mind that up to 80% of
losses from theft can be prevented with surveillance camera equipment with remote
access. Closed-circuit television systems not only provide a means with which to
catch the act of theft in place, it can also prevent it and provide video evidence of a
culprit to give to the police, should your business be robbed.
Simply having a noticeable camera can deter a would-be thief from pursuing
their plans to ruin your business. The thief knows he has a chance to be caught on
camera and thus could decide it’s simply not worth it. Therefore, closed circuit
video surveillance systems could provide an essential preventative measure.

And in the event of your business being robbed, the use of CCTV footage
can not only help you reclaim the assets you lost but may actually lead to the
acquisition of more. Namely, the arrest and the conviction of the person who
robbed you, leading to a safer work space for you and your employees, as well as
other businesses who may not be as well-equipped as you. No matter how you look
at it, high quality CCTV video surveillance is the safest and one of the most effective
options. We’ve put together some of the important do’s and don’ts when considering
installing a CCTV camera.

OTHER SYMPTOMPS AND DEFECT
1. Verify camera power and connection - If the LEDs on the camera are
not lighting up, you should check to see if the camera is powered externally
(plugged into the wall). Should your camera be powered via electricity and
not battery, you will want to check that the camera is receiving the
appropriate wattage as a complicated camera such as a pan-tilt-zoom, will
require more watts that a normal plug will supply.
2. Discover and ping camera - Type ‘cmd’ into windows search engine and
this should open a DOS command prompt. When this pops up, you will be
asked to type in ‘ping’ and your IP address. You may see either ‘Request
Time Out’ or ‘Destination Host Unreachable’ appear on the screen. If it does,
check to see if the device you are using is on the same network as your
camera. If you do see the camera on the network, attempt to connect using
your browser.
3. Know username / password - If you can ping the camera but find
yourself unable to connect then it’s possible that you have typed in the
wrong login or password. If this is the cause, you will want to refer to the
manual.
4. Check ARP tables - Check Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) tables,
usually located on the outside of the camera. It is possible to cross reference
MAC and IP addresses using the ARP.
5. Confirm no IP conflict - If you have more than one camera you need to
make sure that they have different IP addresses as this can stop you from
accessing one or all cameras.
6. Upgrade firmware - See to it that your camera is up to date. You can do
this by connecting to VMS and accessing the camera’s web page.
7. Reboot camera - Sometimes it’s the first thing we do – turn the system
off for 10-20 seconds and input your settings again.
8. Check cabling - Make sure that the cables are straight and firmly intact,
because if there are knots or loose cables this could be the root of your
problem.
9. Factory reset camera - This can be a drastic thing to do as you can lose
all of your history but this process will help to troubleshoot any issues. A
factory reset can be done simply by pushing a paperclip into the pinhole
reset button located at the back.
10. Call manufacturer or remote monitoring provider for support - If
you’re ever unsure, seek help from an expert who can help you every step of
the way.
11. Blur image in the night - In order to avoid this problem, you just need
to back focus your camera and after that you will get crisp and clear image
in low light or in nighttime as well. For doing this you need to optimize the

focus of your camera for dull light as well by opening the camera iris at its
full potential. This back focus adjustment is essential for zoom lenses as
well and gives you better pictures while using the zooming of the camera.
12. Picture not displaying in camera – If you are using a low-voltage CCTV
camera for your CCTV system and you find this problem, then make sure
you check the fuse and power supply of your system. In case this is not the
problem, then you might need to check shorts in the wiring of your cable.
For this you can unplug the cable at both end and check it using a meter to
identify the problem and if you find the problem then you can replace the
cable for it.
13. Bright spots on the monitor - If you will install your CCTV camera in
front of any bright light, then you will surely get this problem on your CCTV
monitor. Other than this bright reflection of light from any surface toward
the camera can also create this problem. So, if you are getting this problem,
then you will need to replace your camera position to avoid the problem. In
case you cannot install the camera at any other place then replace your
lights so you do not get any bright light or its reflection on your CCTV
camera.
14. Snowy bars on the screen - If your camera cable picks any electrical
interference, magnetic signal or radio waves than this problem can appear
in your system. For avoiding this problem always use a good quality camera
cable that is designed to resist these interfaces. Also, install your cables
away from all kinds of electrical or network cable, route because if you will
install CCTV cables with these cables, then electrical flux of other cables will
create this problem in your system and you will get snowy bars on your
monitor.
15. Identification problems - Make sure you do a test run at your end with
a trial situation and verify you do not have this problem in your CCTV
system. In case you have this problem with your camera or system, then
you can eliminate the problem by repositioning your camera at a better
angle with clear focus on entrance gates and at other necessary places.

What is Waste Management?

E-waste or electronic waste is created when an electronic product is
discarded after the end of its useful life. The rapid expansion
of technology and the consumption driven society results in the creation of a
very large amount of e-waste in every minute.
Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is becoming major
thread to the whole world. Its toxic emissions mixed with virgin soil and air
and causing harmful effects to the entire biota either directly or indirectly.
Direct impacts include release of acids, toxic compounds including heavy
metals, carcinogenic chemicals and indirect effects such as bio
magnification of heavy metals. Many private firms are involved in collecting,
dismantling, separation and exporting e-wastes for recyclers. However, strict
regulations are currently being followed as on approval of such firms such
as e-steward certification by Basel action network in US, they also involved
in public awareness programs; this review is based on collected information
from various journal articles, websites including the technical note by
Greenpeace international. Further, it analyzes the current progress on e-
waste management worldwide.
