    Hi there! My name is Laura. I am a school psychologist and educational


    consultant in New York City. During my career, I have also been a Special
    Education Director and a Director at a camp for children with Autism. Before I
    knew what to call it, social and emotional learning was my passion. It seems
    like without that, not much else works very well, amirite? I am truly grateful for

    Feelings thermometers or scales are an essential tool in your counseling office. I can't
    think of something else I reached for or referenced more often with students.

    Feelings charts are great, but when a student struggles with a specific emotion like
    anger or anxiety, it is better to explore that emotion in more depth.

    Scales let students see that:


    • emotions come in different sizes.
    • they can match the size of the emotion with a strategy.
    • that certain events trigger stronger emotions.
    • what they look and feel like when they feel certain emotions.
