Chapter 1

Introduction

The classes for S.Y. 2020 – 2021 started late September 2020. Covid- 19, a virus that

soon became a pandemic forced the whole world to restrain themselves from going out of their

houses. So, the Department of Education decided to start classes through an online modular. It

also forced families to upgrade their gadgets to be able to comply to the requirements of the

online classes. However, there are other families who cannot afford them. There are also other

students who have other obligations in their houses aside from answering the modules which

made it harder for them to comply within the given schedule.

Objective of the study

This research is aimed to look into the hindrances that are being experienced by

students that cause them to not be able to finish their modules within the allotted time.

Statement of the Problem

The question that the researcher asked is about the hindrances that are being

experienced by students in their online classes. Specifically, it aims to answer the following

questions:

1. How many hours each day are you allotting for answering modules?

2. Are you experiencing any delay in answering these modules?

3. Rate the following based on how they affect you. (1 for the lowest and 5 for the highest)
Significance of the Study

The results of this study could bring a great contribution and be highly beneficial specifically to

the following:

Students. The result of this study could give future students an idea of what will be expected

when they enter an online course.

Parents. The results could give parents an idea of what their children is experiencing while

taking an online course.

Teachers. It can give teachers information about what their students are experiencing at home

that causes the delay of submission.

Scope and Limitations

This study is quantitative and nature that focuses on the hindrances experienced by students

while taking online modules. The research sample is composed of 5 students from ABM strand in

Pampanga High School.

The sampling technique used is Convenience Sampling.

The data gathering method that was used is survey to determine the hindrances that are being

experienced by the students.

The study is limited to grade 12 ABM students of Pampanga High School.

Review of Related Literature

In an article entitled “Top 8 eLearning Barriers That Inhibit Online Learners Engagement

With eLearning Content” written by Christopher Pappas (2016), he mentioned the top 8

barriers that affects eLearners. They are: Limited Tech Experience, past experience, Lack of

Motivation, Personal Cognitions, Too Challenging eLearning Materials, Inadequate Support,

Lack of Community Development, and Online Learner Boredom. “In a perfect eLearning world,

everyone would have wide open schedules and endless attention spans. They would look

forward to every eLearning module and activity, and intrinsic motivation would abound.

Unfortunately, eLearning professionals have a variety of obstacles to contend with.” Even

though we are in a modern era, eLearning still has some problems that should be addressed

because they affect the students’ learning skills.

In an article entitled “What Are the Biggest Challenges of Online Courses and Online

learning?” written in 2017, they mentioned the benefits that could be experienced by

eLearners. There are benefits to be sure such as… 1) You can study at a time that suits you, 2)

You can vary your study schedule each week to match changing work or family commitments,

3) You can work at a pace that suits you, 4) You don’t have to waste money or time on travel

costs, no parking charges and no books to buy. They also mentioned 8 challenges of online

courses. These are motivation, accountability, time management, confidence, lacking technical

skills, being proactive, loneliness, and persistence.

Chapter 2

Methodology

Research Design

The researcher used quantitative research to determine the common hindrances of

students from accomplishing their modules within the allotted time during the new normal.

Context and Participants

 Number of Participants

o 5 participants

 Participants’ Demographic Characteristics

o 3 boys

o 2 girls

 Settings of the study

o Due to the pandemic, the study will be conducted when the participants

have their free time and through online platforms such as messenger or

Facebook.

Instruments

 Questionnaire Checklist

o To gather data
o More comprehensive for the participants

Data Gathering Procedure

Before conducting the survey, the researcher will present a consent letter to the participants

and the research teacher first for approval. When approved, the researcher will administer the

questionnaires to the participants during their available time since it is an online survey. After

all the participants are done, the researcher will gather the data from their answers and will

tally them.

Discussion

The research focuses on the hindrances experienced by ABM students while answering

modules. The results showed that hindrances are really present among their schedule, and that it

bothers students’ answering schedules.

1. How many hours each day are you allotting for answering modules?

3 out of 5 respondents ( 80% ) answered that they use 4 – 6 hours of their time answering

modules while 2 out of 5 ( 20% ) answered 6 – 8 hours. This shows that majority of the respondents only

have small time allotted for answering their modules.

2. Are you experiencing any delay in answering these modules?

5 out of 5 respondents ( 100% ) answered that they are experiencing delay in answering their

modules. This clearly shows that there is a reason why they only have a small time allotted for answering

their modules.
3. Rate the following based on how they affect you. (1 for the lowest and 5 for the highest)

3 respondents listed “Playing video games” as a lowest factor affecting in answering their

modules while 2 respondents listed “Not knowing the answer” as the highest factor. In addition to this,

2 participants listed “Laziness” as a highest factor affecting them from answering the modules. This

shows that majority of the respondents are having a hard time accomplishing the modules because they

don’t know how to answer them, and because they are being lazy.

Chapter 4

Conclusion

The research talks about the factors that affect students’ schedule in answering their online

modular. The results showed that majority of the respondents can only allot a small time for answering

the modules. The main factors that affect them are lack of knowledge about the lessons and also

laziness.

Recommendation

Analysis of the survey showed that majority of the students are having a hard time answering

their modules and all the respondents said that they are experiencing a delay in answering the modules.

It is recommended that the school should adjust to the skills of the students. Not all students are

capable of understanding a lesson without the help of a teacher. It is also recommended that the

submission time should be adjusted to fit the capabilities of ALL students. Do not make a slow learner

student force his or herself to ride along the fast learners because it could affect them in a serious way.

Not all children are the same.
