CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of this Software Requirement Specification (SRS) document is to provide the
descriptions about the Point of Sale For Remote Shops in terms of its functional and non-
functional requirements. This document will be applicable in guiding the developers, users and
the testing engineers of POSFRS to ensure that the POSFRS functionalities and requirements are
met.

1.2 Scope of POSFRS

The Point of Sale for Remote Shops (POSFRS) will be designed in the way that is going to
provide a computerized management and control over business taking place within one or
more shops located at different remote geographical locations.

1.3 Benefits of POSFRS

Many small shops in less developed countries like Tanzania (with exception to large shops such
as supermarkets), the business process is paper work based which not efficient (time
consuming process) and inaccurate. The Point of Sale for Remote Shops (POSFRS) will provide a
computerized efficient and accurate way of running the business process in those small shops
even those owned by a single person and located in different places or regions

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS

2.1 Product perspective

The Point of Sale for Remote Shops (POSFRS) will have two main parts which are;

i. Central database which will be keeping the records such as item names in the inventory,
quantity of items remained in the inventory, buying prices of items, selling prices of
items, transaction and sale records as well as records for users of the Point of Sale For
Remote Shops (POSFRS). This will be the place where all records are stored to and
retrieved from it.

ii. Remote client(s) or end-users who are running the business in the working environment
of Point of Sale For Remote Shops (POSFRS).

CHAPTER THREE

SYSTEM FEATURES

3.1 Functional requirements of POSFRS

Functional requirements are those business functions which will be included in this software
under development. Functional requirements describe the features of the product and what the
system must do so as to fulfill the intended user requirements.
The following are the functional requirements which will be provided by the Point of Sale For
Remote Shops (POSFRS);-

FRQ 1. POSFRS will enable users (employees working at the remote shops) to be registered
into the system by the owner of the shop.
FRQ 2. POSFRS will enable the registered users to login and logout the system.
FRQ 3. POSFRS will enable the shop owner (as administrator) to add items in the shop stock
with its corresponding buying and selling price per each item added.
FRQ 4. POSFRS will enable its users (shop owner and employees) to modify and update some
of their information such as changing passwords for security purposes, changing item
names and prices and so on.
FRQ 5. POSFRS will enable the shop owner to view day, weekly, monthly, quarterly and
annually total sales and the total profit of the corresponding sale.
FRQ 6. POSFRS will allow the employees only to view the day sales (not the profit made).
FRQ 7. POSFRS will provide functionality for both shop owner and employees to print sales at
specific time.
FRQ 8. POSFRS will provide a means of communication between shop owner and employees

by means of text messages; that is, an employee may send a comment to a shop
owner, then a shop owner may view and reply it, employee will also read a reply.
FRQ 9. POSFRS will allow an employee to update sales by only entering the amount of items
sold, then the system will automatically provide other mathematical calculations.
FRQ 10. POSFRS will be showing the remained quantity of items in the shop’s stock.
FRQ 11. POSFRS will allow shop owner to remove items which are and will no longer be
available within a shop in case of products sold in short period of time and for a
specific reason.
FRQ 12. POSFRS will finally allow a shop owner to remove/deregister an employee who is no a
worker at a shop.

3.2 Non Functional requirements

Non-functional requirements may be simply defines as the properties or constraints a certain


system must have.

The following are the non-functional requirements of Point of Sale for Remote Shops (POSFRS);-
NFRQ 1. POSFRS will be able to work on any web browser provided that there is internet
access.
NFRQ 2. POSFRS will only be available all the time when the shops are open.
NFRQ 3. For security purposes, only the shop owner will have access or privilege to register
and deregister employees into the system and to view all the transaction records
including profit made within a longer period of time.
NFRQ 4. POSFRS will be user friend with good interfaces and simple language mainly
Kiswahili.
