    Synopsis

    1 Project Introduction
    A resort is a place that help people relax themselves away from their daily activities by providing all the
    entertainment and facilities that are needed. The location of a resort is what typically attracts tourists
    to visit them. Apart from this, the distinguishing feature of a resort is the diversity in the services that
    are offered.
    According to Global Wellness Economy Report, India ranked 2nd in terms of leading growth markets
    for wellness tourism, depicting an average annual growth rate of 20.3 per cent from 2015 to 2017.
    Wellness Resort refers to the architectural practice that relies on art and science to design built envi-
    ronments with socially conscious structures and materials to facilitate the harmonious balance between
    physical, mental, cognitive and spiritual well-being while regenerating the natural environment. Human
    health, well-being and comfort are core considerations to wellness resorts.
    This project will consist of spaces designed to provide a focused, guided, and an intention-driven stay
    program on the sea-facing clifftop site of Kagal. This wellness resort will consist of learning and lifestyle
    workshops such as meditation and healthy eating, as well as fitness activities such as yoga, nature walks,
    and hiking.

    1.1 Need of the Study


    The growth of urbanization has robbed the human mental peace. This wellness resort looks forward
    in providing for the human efforts of escaping the urban turmoil and bringing forth of mental peace,
    relaxation and environmental change.
    Wellness and Tourism is a booming industry and there is a deficit of high-end, integrated wellness
    destinations across South India that cater to foreign tourists . While Karnataka’s coastal regions have
    been somewhat exploited for weekend tourism for local tourists, it is yet to be exploited for wellness
    tourism of global tourists.

    1.2 Aim of the Study


    To design a high-end, wellness resort in Kagal aiming on individuals wanting to slow down, relax and
    unwind.

    1.3 Scope and Limitations


    This study provides scope for site planning, built form and landscaping. Since, the project demands the
    formulation of a space that provide people an ambience to relax, while satisfying their functional needs,
    it also gives an opportunity to deal with the visual, behavioral, technical and functional aspect of the
    design and aims to create transparent open spaces. It also provides an opportunity to study the local
    climatic factors, culture and heritage.
    The design to this project may use assumed data where ever necessary, due to the limited access to
    evaluation of the physical characteristics of site (on grounds of the pandemic).

    2 Site Location
    The site situated in Kagal Village, Kumta Taluk, Uttar Kannada District, Karnataka is about 14.00 kms
    by road towards the north of northwest of Kumta Town. The location is an attractive tourism locale
    with scope for a lot of nature and adventure tourism. The vaccant plot across 54 Acres and 24.75 Guntas
    sees the scenic views of the adjacent Arabian Sea and is surrounded by the Arabian Sea towards the
    west, north and southern sides. On the other hand, the east side is surrounded by agricultural lands.
    The proposed project site area lies within 500m from the HTL and hence, falls under CRZ-III Area,
    and attracts the CRZ notification 2011. Therefore, it requires the CRZ clearance from the KSCZMA.
