b. the rate of photosynthesis quickly increases when the intensity of light is increased at the
beginning
c. the rate of photosynthesis slows down as the light intensity increases
d. when the light intensity is increased but the rate of photosynthesis no longer increases,
there is another factor that is limiting it.

Part B: Answer the following questions: -
1. (a) A farmer grows plants in a field for years. He found that the growth of plants has
reduced.
Give reason for the poor growth.
It might have been lack of sunlight or even lack of water if there are no water sources ner
by the roots won't be able to reach them. they might not be a comfortable environment it
might have been

.(2 marks)

What are the effects on plants having deficiency of?

Magnesium: the plants will go yellow instead of green
Nitrate: the plant will have a stunted growth and will turn yellow instead of green
          (2 marks)

(b). Testing starch in leaves involves many procedures. Explain the reasons to do the
following activities.
1. The leaf is boiled in water to
to break down the cell membrane around the leave

2. The leaf is boiled in alcohol to

so we can remove the chlorophyll out of the leave
c. What safety measure has to be taken while boiling it in alcohol
we have turned of the bunsen burner because ethanol is very flammable
and we used forceps to to take the leaves out to avoid and chemical on out hands

d. What is the test for starch?

after you add iodine solution if the leave contains any starch it will turn blue black
( 4marks)

2. What are the 2 root words photo &  synthesis mean?

light and to make
   Reactants Products

[Sunlight is not a reactant; it is a source of energy]

Where do the reactants come from?

Carbon dioxide comes from the atmosphere, water comes from the roots which get it from
a water body nearby, and energy comes from sunlight.

Write a word equation for photosynthesis

carbon dioxide+water+energy= glucose

How is a green leaf adapted/suitable for photosynthesis [state 3 reasons]

1. they have a large surface area
2. the cell inside the leaf has water on its surface
3. the leaf is faced to the sun so it can absorb energy
Why is there no photosynthesis at night?
Because photosynthesis requires sunlight and there is not sun at night

(12 marks)
3. This is a variegated leaf.  Which parts carry out photosynthesis and which do not?

Transport tubes/vessels-name two transport vessels in plants and say what each transports: (4
marks)
Xylem    water and minerals from the root up to the plant
Phloem     sugar and amino acids dissolved in water
From the examples of an activities given below, write down on the space provided which on is
Manipulated variable and responding variable

1. 🐛You spray mosquito repellant on one arm and count how many mosquito bites you
have.
Manipulated variable
The mosquito repellent

Responding variable:

How many bites there are on one arm (2 marks)

4. 🐭A mouse is given a drug and then runs a maze. The time it takes to complete the maze
is compared to the time it took for it to complete the maze without the drug.
Manipulated variable
The drug that is given the the mouse
Responding variable:
The time the mouse took to complete the maize (2 marks)

Interpreting Graphs

5.Mr. M’s class grades were graphed as a pie graph. Based on this graph:

1. The largest percentage of students received what grade? C

b. Estimate what percentage of the class received a B. 90

c. Estimate what percentage of the class received an A. 45

d ) Based on the graph, do you think Mr. M’s class is

difficult? Why or why not?
I think it is difficult because only 45 percent of the
class got an A and most the class got a C

6. The bar graphcompares the number of students enrolled in classes.

a. What class has the highest enrollment? Biology

b. How many students are enrolled in Chemistry? 160 Anatomies? 130

c. Which course is the least popular? Physics
