University. I congratulate the entire medical and scientific community associated with this
University.
In these years, you are doing wonderful work in teaching as well as training on systems of
medicine.
|
25 years means this University is in the prime of its youth. This is the age to think even
bigger and do even better. I am confident that the University will continue to scale new
heights of excellence in the times to come. I would also like to appreciate the efforts of the
Karnataka Government in handling the Covid-19 situation. Friends, in normal times, the
celebrations would have surely been bigger. Had it not been for the global pandemic, I would
have loved to be with you all in Bengaluru to mark this special day.
But, today the world is facing one of the biggest crisis since the two world wars.Like the
world changed pre and post-World Wars, the same way the pre and post Covid world will be
different.
Friends, during such a time, the world is looking up to our doctors, nurses, medical staff and
scientific community with hope and gratitude. The world seeks both care and cure from you.
|
Friends,at the root of India's brave fight against Covid-19 is the hard-work of the medical
community and our Corona warriors. In fact, doctors and medical workers are like soldiers,
but without the soldiers’ uniform. The virus may be an invisible enemy, but our Corona
warriors, medical workers are invincible. In the battle of Invisible versus Invincible, our
medical workers are sure to win. Friends, earlier, the debates on globalisation have focused
on economic issues. Now, the world must unite and focus on humanity centric aspects of
development.
Advancements nations make in the health sector will matter more than ever before.Friends,
during the last six years, we in India many initiativesin health-care and medical education.
We are broadly working on four pillars:
The first is - Preventive Healthcare. This includes the importance to Yoga, Ayurveda and
general fitness. More than forty thousand wellness centreshave been openedwhere a key
focus is on controlling life-style related diseases. The success of the Swacchh Bharat Mission
is another key part of preventive healthcare.
The second is- Affordable Healthcare. Ayushman Bharat- the world's largest healthcare
scheme belongs to India. In less than two years, One crore people have benefitted from this
scheme. Women and those staying in villages are among the major beneficiaries of this
scheme.
The third pillar is- Improvements on the supply side. A nation like ours has to have proper
medical infrastructure and medical education infrastructure. Work is under-way to ensure a
medical college or post-graduate medical institute in every district of the country.
The country has seen rapid progress in setting up 22 more AIIMS. Over the last five years,
we have been able to add over Thirty thousand seats in MBBSand fifteen thousand seats in
post-graduation. This has been the largest increase in the five year term of any government
since independence. The Medical Council of India has been replaced by a new National
Medical Commission through an Act of the Parliament. This will go in a long way in
improving the quality of medical education, bringing it at par with the international standards.
The fourth pillar is - Mission mode implementationA well-thought of idea on paper makes it
only a good idea. And, a good idea well implemented makes it a great one. Hence,
implementation is very crucial.
Here, I would like to highlight the success of India's National Nutrition Mission that is
helping youngsters and their Mothers. India is working twenty four by seven to eliminate TB
by 2025. This is five years ahead of the global target of 2030. Mission Indradhanush has
increased our rate of annual rise in vaccination coverage by four times. Friends, The Central
government recently approved the introduction of a new law for expanding education of more
than 50 different allied and healthcare professionals. This law, once passed, will address the
shortage of para-medical personnel in the country. It will also help India in supplying skilled
resources to other countries.
Friends, There are three things on which I would urge maximum discussion and participation.
One is - advances in tele-medicine. Can we think of new models that make tele-medicine
popular on a larger scale.
The other is related to 'Make in India' in the health sector. The initial gains make me
optimistic. Our domestic manufacturers have started production of PPEs and have supplied
about 1 crore PPEs to Covid warriors. Similarly, we have supplied 1.2 crore 'Make in India'
N-95 masks to all States.
Third is- IT related tools for healthier societies. I am sure you have the ArogyaSetu App on
your Mobiles.12 crore health conscious people have downloaded it. This has been very
helpful in the fight against Coronavirus.
Friends, I am aware of an area that is of great concern to you all. Due to a mob mentality,
those working on the front-lines,those on duty be it doctors, nurses, Safai workers, others are
subject to violence. I want to state it clearly - violence, abuse and rude behaviour is not
acceptable. Steps have been taken to protect you against any form of violence. We have also
provided an insurance cover of Rupees fifty lakhfor those on the front-line.
Friends,I am happy to see the fruitful journey of this University over last 25 years which has
produced thousands of medical and para-medical personnel who are serving the poor and the
needy in this challenging time. I am sure that the University will continue to produce health
personnel of excellent quality and caliber that will make the State and the Country proud.
Thank you. Thank you very much.
Namaste! First of all congratulations to all of you for successfully completing 125 years!
Congratulations! A 125-year journey is very long. There must have been several milestones;
you must have faced many ups and downs, but running an organization for 125 years is a big
thing in itself. It has undergone a paradigm shift, systems have changed. Firstly, I would like
to congratulate all the stalwarts including the former ones who have contributed to
strengthening CII in these 125 years. I pay tribute to those who are no longer amongst us, and
I also wish good luck for the ones who are going to take charge here in the future.
In the wake of Corona pandemic, such online events are becoming a new normal. But this is
also the biggest strength of human being that he finds a way out of every difficulty. Even
today, on one hand we have to take stringent steps to fight this virus, while on the other hand,
we also have to take care of the economy. On the one hand we have to save the lives of the
countrymen and on the other hand we have to stabilize and speed up the economy of the
country. In this situation, you have started talking about Getting Growth Back and certainly it
is something commendable! I would go a step further and rather say that yes, we will
definitely get our growth back. Some of you might be wondering that in this hour of crisis,
how I am saying this with so much confidence.
There are several reasons for my confidence. I trust India's capabilities and crisis
management. I trust India's talent and technology. I trust Innovation and Intellect of India. I
trust the farmers, MSMEs and entrepreneurs of India. And, I trust Industry leaders like all of
you. That's why I'm saying- Yes! We will get our growth back. India will get its growth back.
|
Friends,
Corona might have slowed our pace of development, but today the biggest truth of the
country is that India has overtaken lockdown and has entered into Unlock Phase one. A large
part of the economy has opened up in Unlock Phase one. A lot is going to open after 8th
June. That is, Getting Growth Back has started.
Today we are able to do all this because when Corona virus was spreading its tentacles
around the world, India had taken the right steps at the right time. If we compare our situation
with all the countries of the world, we can see that today how widespread the effect of
lockdown has been in India. In this lockdown, India has not only prepared physical resources
to fight against Corona, but has also saved its human resource. In such a situation, the
question now is what next? As industry leaders, one question will surely be in your minds -
what is the government going to do now? You will also have some questions about the
Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. This is very natural and obvious.
Friends,
Reinvigorating the economy against Corona is one of our foremost priorities. For this, the
government is taking the decisions that need to be taken immediately. And besides this, such
decisions have been taken which will help the country in the long run.
Friends,
Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana has helped a lot in providing immediate benefits to the
poor. Ration has been delivered to about 74 crore beneficiaries under this scheme. Free ration
is also being provided to migrant workers. Besides, so far poor families have been given
more than fifty three thousand crore Rupees of financial assistance. Be it women, divyangs,
elderly, or labourers; everyone has benefited from it. During the lockdown, the government
has delivered more than 8 crore gas cylinders to the poor - that too for free. Moreover, the
government has also made 24 per cent EPF contribution in the accounts of about 50 lakh
employees of private sectors. Around Rs 800 crore has been deposited into their accounts.
Friends,
Five things are very important to build a self-reliant India and to bring India back on the path
of rapid development - Intent, Inclusion, Investment, Infrastructure and Innovation. You will
get a glimpse of all these in the bold decisions taken recently. With these decisions, we have
made every sector future ready. Thus, today India is ready for a big step towards a new
growth-oriented future. Friends, reforms are not some random or scattered decisions for us.
For us reforms are systematic, planned, integrated, inter-connected and futuristic process.
For us, 'reform' means having the courage to make decisions and taking them to a logical
conclusion. Be it IBC, bank merger, GST, Faceless Income Tax Assessment, we have always
emphasized on reducing the interference of government in the systems, and encouraging an
eco-system for private enterprises. For this reason, the government is also making such policy
reforms, which the country had given up hope for. If I talk about the agriculture sector, then
the rules and regulations that were made after independence in our country had left the
farmers at the mercy of middlemen. The rules were very strict as to where the farmer could
sell the crop and so on. Our government showed the willingness to remove injustice that was
being done to the farmers for decades.
After changes in the APMC Act, now the farmers will also get their rights. Farmers can now
sell their crop to whomsoever they want and whenever they want. Now a farmer can take his
crop to any state of the country and sell it. Also, grains or agricultural products kept in
warehouses can now be sold through electronic trading. Just imagine! How many new
avenues are going to open for agri-business! Friends, similarly, keeping in mind the welfare
of our workers, labour reforms have also been made to increase employment opportunities.
Non-strategic sectors in which the private sector was not even allowed have now been opened
up. You must have observed that we are taking the decisions which were being demanded for
many years, while walking on the path of 'Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas'. Friends,
India has the third largest coal reserve in the world! And India also has bold and hard
working business leaders like you. Then why coal comes from outside? Why coal is being
imported? Sometimes the government stood in the way and sometimes the policies. But now
the work of freeing the coal sector from these blockages has started.
Now commercial mining in the coal sector has been permitted. Permission has also been
granted for the allotment of partially explored blocks. Similarly, in mineral mining too, now
companies can do mining work simultaneously with exploration. Those familiar with this
sector are well aware of the far-reaching consequences of these decisions.
Friends,
The direction in which the government is moving, be it our mining sector, energy sector, or
research and technology, both the industry and the youth will get opportunities in every field.
Going beyond, now the participation of private players in the strategic sectors of the country
is also becoming a reality. Whether you want to invest in space sector, or want to explore
new opportunities in the atomic energy, there are immense possibilities completely open for
you.
Friends,
You are well aware that lakhs of units of the MSME sector are like economic engines for our
country. They make a large contribution to the GDP of the country. This contribution is about
30 percent. The industry had been demanding to clarify the definition of MSMEs for a long
time. It has now been fulfilled. This will enable MSMEs to grow without any worries and
they will not have to walk other paths to maintain the status of MSMEs. Global tenders have
been scrapped for the government procurement of up to Rs 200 crores to benefit crores of
people working in the MSMEs of the country. This will open up more opportunities to our
small industries. In a way, the Atmanirbhar Bharat package is a fuel for the engine of the
MSME sector.
Friends,
To understand the relevance of these decisions, it is very important to see and understand
today's global situations. Today, all the countries of the world want more support of each
other than ever before. The need for one another has increased more in the world. But it is
also being thought that how old thinking, old customs and old policies can be effective. It is
natural that a new thinking is going on at the moment. And at such times, the expectations of
the world from India have increased further. Today, the world's trust in India has increased
and a new hope has also arisen. You have also seen that amid this crisis of Corona, when it
was difficult for one country to help another, India has helped by sending medical supplies to
more than 150 countries.
Friends,
World is looking for a trusted, reliable partner in India. There is a potential, strength and
capability.
Today, all of you, the industry of India should take full advantage of the World's trust that has
been developed towards India. It is the responsibility of all of you, it is the responsibility of
organizations like CII to ensure that trust, quality and competitiveness are associated with
'manufactured in India'. If you move two steps ahead, the government will move four steps
ahead and support you. As the Prime Minister, I am giving you the assurance that I stand with
you. This is like rise to the occasion for the Indian industry. Trust me; 'Getting Growth Back'
is not so difficult. And the biggest thing is that now you, the Indian Industries have a clear
path i.e. the way to Atmanirbhar Bharat; the path of self reliant India. Self-reliant India means
we will become stronger and embrace the world.
Self-sufficient India will be fully integrated with the world economy and will also be
supportive. But keep in mind, self-reliant India also means- we will not depend on anyone in
strategic areas. It is about creating strong enterprises in India, the enterprises that can become
global forces. It is about generating employment. It is about empowering our people to come
out and find solutions that can define the future of our country. We now have to invest in
building a robust local supply chain that strengthens India's stake in the global supply chain.
In this campaign, giants like CII will also have to come forward with a new role. Now you
have to come forward as champions of indigenous inspirations. You have to facilitate the
recovery of domestic industries, assist and support the next level growth. You have to help
the industry to expand its market globally.
Friends,
Now there is a need to manufacture such products in the country which will be 'Made in
India' and 'Made for the world'. How can we reduce the country's imports? What new goals
can be set? We have to set our targets to increase productivity in all sectors. I want to give out
this message to the industry today, and the country has the same expectation from you.
Friends,
To make manufacturing in India, Make in India a major medium of employment, many
priority sectors have been identified by discussing with organizations of various industries
like you. Work has been started on these sectors- furniture, air conditioner, leather and
footwear. We import more than 30 per cent of our demand for air conditioners. We have to
reduce it as fast as possible. Similarly, despite being the second largest leather producer in the
world, our share in global exports is very low.
Friends,
There are so many sectors in which we can do very well. In the past years, modern trains like
Vande Bharat have been built in the country only with the help of friends like you. The
country is exporting metro coaches today. Similarly, efforts are being made to reduce our
dependence on imports in many areas, be it mobile phone manufacturing or defence
manufacturing. And I will say very proudly that within 3 months you have developed the
Personal Protective Equipment - PPE industry worth rupees hundreds of crores. Not even a
single PPE was made in India until three months ago. Today India is making 3 lakh PPE kits
a day. So this is the strength of our industry. You have to use this ability in every sector. I
also urge all the friends of CII to take full advantage of the investment in rural economy and
of the possibilities of partnership with farmers. Now necessary infrastructure is being
developed for clusters of local agro products near the villages. There are many opportunities
for all the members of CII.
Friends,
Be it farm, fisheries, food processing, footwear or pharma, the gates of new opportunities are
open for you in many sectors. I invite all of you for active participation in the rental scheme
announced by the government to provide accommodation to the migrants in cities.
Friends,
Our government considers the private sector to be the partner of the country's development
journey. Your every need related to Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign will be taken care of. I am
constantly in touch with you and all the stake-holders and this will continue. I request you to
come up with a detailed study of every sector; build consensus; develop concepts and think
big. We will together take up more structural reforms that will change the course of our
country.
We will together build a self reliant India. Friends, come, take a pledge to make the country
self-sufficient. Put your full strength to fulfil this resolve. Government stands with you and
you must stand with the goals of the country. You will succeed, we will succeed, and the
country will reach new heights and will become self-reliant. I once again congratulate CII on
completing 125 years. Thanks a lot !!
Excellency, hello!
First of all, I would like to convey my heartfelt condolences to all the people and families
affected by COVID-19 in Australia on my behalf and from all over India. This global
epidemic has affected all kinds of systems in the world. And this digital character of our
summit is an example of similar effects.
Excellency, I am happy to meet you through this digital medium, but there is a little
disappointment because we could not get the opportunity to give you a warm welcome in
India. First in January and then last month, we were waiting for your visit to India, but,
unfortunately, both the times the yatra had to be postponed. Our visitation today cannot take
the place of your visit to India. As a friend, I urge you to plan a visit to India soon after the
situation improves and accept our hospitality.
|
Excellency,India-Australia relations are expanding as well as deeper. And this depth comes
from our shared values, shared interests, shared geography and shared objectives. In the last
few years, our cooperation and synergy have gained good momentum. Fortunately, one end
of the reins of our relationship is in the hands of a strong and visionary leader like you. I
believe it is a perfect time to further strengthen the relations between India and Australia.
We have immense potential to further strengthen our friendship. These possibilities also bring
challenges with you. Challenges how to translate this potential into reality, so that the links
between citizens, businesses, academics, researchers, etc. of the two countries become
stronger. How our relationships become a factor of stability for your region and for the world,
how we work for global good by getting it, all these aspects need to be considered.
Excellency, countries in the contemporary world have increased expectations of each other,
and our citizens' expectations from us. As we share democratic values, we both have the duty
to meet these expectations. Therefore, upholding, and protecting the values of global welfare,
such as democracy, Rule of Law, Freedom, Mutual Respect, respect for International
Institutions, and transparency, etc., is our sacred responsibility. It is, in a way, our heritage for
the future. Today, when these values are being challenged in different ways, we can
strengthen our relationships and empower them.
|
Excellency,India is committed to enhancing its relations with Australia at a broader and
faster pace. This is important not only for our two countries, but also for the Indo-Pacific
region and the world. I am pleased that our various institutional dialogues are providing
further substance to our relationship. There are also frequent high-level exchanges between
the two countries. Trade and investment are also increasing. But I would not say that I am
satisfied with this detail, at this pace. When a leader like you is leading our friendly country,
the parameters of the pace of development in our relations should also be ambitious. I am
very happy that today we are upgrade our bilateral relations as a Comprehensive Strategic
Partnership.
The role of our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will be more important in this period of
global epidemic. The world needs a coordinated and collaborative approach to quickly
emerge from the economic and social side effects of this epidemic.
Our government has decided to look at this Crisis as an Opportunity. The process of
comprehensive reforms has been initiated in almost all sectors in India. It will soon see its
results at the ground level. I am particularly grateful for the way you have taken care of the
Indian community in Australia, and especially the Indian students, in this difficult time.
Namaskar!! I hope you all are in your best spirits!! Serving the country continuously for 95
years is indeed a big thing for any organization. ICC, Indian Chamber of Commerce has
contributed to the development of East India and North East, especially to the manufacturing
units there. It is indeed historic. I congratulate every dignitary here who has contributed for
the ICC.
Friends, ICC has witnessed India's fight for independence since its formation in 1925. It has
witnessed the severe famine and food crises and has also been a part of India's Growth
Trajectory.
Now this time the AGM is happening at a time when our country is fighting against multiple
challenges. The whole world is fighting against the coronavirus; India too is fighting, but
other types of challenges are also constantly cropping up.
Somewhere there is a challenge of flood; somewhere we are facing the problem of locusts;
somewhere hailstorms are creating havoc while somewhere there is a fire in the oil-fields or a
series of minor earthquakes. And on the top of it back to back two cyclones hitting the coastal
states of the eastern and the western regions posed a real challenge.
We are all fighting together on all such fronts. More often than not time also tests us.
Sometimes many difficulties and challenges arise together.
But we have also seen that in such situations, our attitude guarantees a bright future. How we
are dealing with a challenge and how strongly we are fighting against the difficulties
determines the opportunities to come.
Friends, there is a saying here - मन के हारे हार, मन के जीते जीत, that is, our willpower and
determination charts our path forward. The one who already accepts defeat gets fewer
opportunities before him. But he who strives for victory and moves ahead, supporting each
other, more opportunity comes in front of him.
Friends, our solidarity, the spirit of facing the biggest disasters together, our determination
and our willpower are the greatest strength as a nation.
The panacea for any difficulty is staying strong. Tough times have strengthened the
determination of India every time and have energized and boosted the resolution of the
countrymen as a nation. I can see the same feelings on your face today and in the efforts of
crores of countrymen. The crisis of Corona remains all over the world. The whole world is
fighting it. Our country is fighting it with the help of Corona Warriors.
But amidst all this, every countryman is now also filled with the resolve to convert this
disaster into an opportunity; we have to make it a big turning point for the country.
What is this turning point? Atmanirbhar Bharat, Self Reliant India!! This spirit of self-
reliance has been lived by every Indian like an aspiration for years.
But still there has been a major wish in the mind of every Indian - I wish we were self-
sufficient in the field of medical equipment! I wish we were self-sufficient in defence
manufacturing! I wish we were self-reliant in the coal and minerals sector!
I wish we were self-reliant in the fields of edible oil and fertilizers! I wish we were self-
reliant in electronic manufacturing! I wish we were self-sufficient in Solar Panels, Batteries
and Chip Manufacturing. I wish we were self-reliant in the aviation sector. These countless
wishes and desires have always shaken every Indian.
Friends, this has been a major reason why in the last 5-6 years, India's goal of self-reliance
has been paramount in the policy and practice of the country. Now the Corona Crisis has
taught us a lesson on how to speed it up. It is from this lesson that the 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat
campaign has been born.
Friends, we see that in the family too, when a child, son or daughter, turns 18-20 years old,
then we say learn to be independent and self-reliant. In a way, the first lesson of self-
sufficient India begins with family. India will also have to be self-reliant.
Friends, the 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' campaign simply means that India should minimize its
dependence on other countries. We should learn to manufacture within India everything that
the country is forced to import. How can India become an exporter of those products in the
future, we have to work fast in this direction.
In addition, we also have to regulate the import of those things or products that are made by
India's small entrepreneurs, our artisans, handicrafts artisans, and millions of poor associated
with our Self-Help Groups, which are being manufactured and sold here for decades. We
have to control the trend of getting the same goods from abroad.
With this practice, we will not only buy things from these small entrepreneurs, we will not
only give them the money, but will also be, in a way, rewarding their hard work and will be
showing them respect. We do not even know how much this gesture impacts their heart and
how proud they feel!
Therefore, now is the time to be ‘vocal for your local’. It is time to make every village, every
town, every district, every state and the whole country self-sufficient.
Friends, Swami Vivekananda once wrote in a letter- The simplest method to be worked upon
at present is to induce Indians to use their own produce and get markets for Indian art ware in
other countries. The path shown by Swami Vivekananda ji is an inspiration for India in the
post Covid world. Now the country has pledged and the country is also taking steps.
The major reforms announced under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat Campaign are being fast
implemented.
Whether expanding the scope of definition of MSMEs or arranging thousands of crores of
special funds to support MSMEs, these are all becoming a reality today. Be it the decision
related to IBC, the decision to decriminalize minor mistakes or the formation of Project
Development Cells for Fast Tracking of Investment, many such works have already been
done.
Now to make various sectors more competitive, especially Coal and Mining, the industry
must come forward to take full advantage of the reforms that have been announced. The
young friends should also come forward.
Friends, the decisions made recently for the farmers and rural economy have freed the
agricultural economy from years of slavery. Now the farmers of India have got the freedom
to sell their produce anywhere in the country.
The amendments that have been made in the APMC Act, Essential Commodities Act, have
opened the path of partnership between farmers and industry. It is sure to revive the farmer
and the rural economy. These decisions have identified the farmer as a producer and his
produce as a product.
Friends, whether it is the decision to transfer money directly to the bank accounts of the
farmers, whether it is the decision of MSP or their pension scheme, our effort has been to
empower the farmers. Now farmers are being helped to grow into a big market force.
Friends, the cluster based approach for Local Products which is now being promoted in India
is also an opportunity for everyone. Whatever is produced in the districts and blocks, related
clusters will be developed nearby. For example, jute based industries will be strengthened
nearby for the jute farmers of West Bengal.
Modern processing units will be made available close to the tribal companions who are
collecting vast wealth of forest produce. Besides this, clusters will also be made for Bamboo
and Organic Products. The entire North East, like Sikkim, can become a major hub for
organic farming. An organic capital can be developed.
Organic farming can become a huge movement in the North East if all the traders associated
with ICC are determined. You can make a global identity and can dominate the global
market.
Friends, all of you have been working in North East and East India for so many decades. All
the steps the government has taken will be of great benefit to the people of East and North
East.
I think Kolkata itself can become a very big leader again. Seeking inspiration from its old
glory, Kolkata may in the future lead the development of the entire region.
Who knows better than you about the pace with which this region can grow with the help of
labour, property and resources of the east!
Friends, after 5 years, i.e. in the year 2025, your organization is going to complete its 100
years. On the other hand, in the year 2022, India will complete 75 years of independence.
This is the best time for your organization, for each of your members to make a big
resolution. I urge you the ICC to also set 50-100 new targets at its level for the 'Atma Nirbhar
Bharat campaign.
These goals should also be of the institution, of every industry and business unit associated
with it and also of every person. The more you move towards your goal, the more this
campaign will progress in East India and the North East.
Friends, we have to revive Bengal's historic superiority in manufacturing. We have always
been listening to "What Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow", we have to seek
inspiration from this and we have to move forward. This is the time to move the Indian
Economy from Command and Control to Plug and Play. This is not the time for Conservative
Approach, but it is time for Bold Decisions and Bold Investments.
It is time to set up a Globally Competitive Domestic Supply Chain in India.
For this, the industry has to help all the stakeholders of its existing supply chain to come out
of the crisis and also their hand-holding in value addition.
Friends,
Moving forward with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat campaign and struggling with the Corona
period, the topic of People, Planet and Profit that you have raised in this AGM today also
holds immense importance. Some people think that these three are opposite to each other, and
are contradictory, but it is not so. People, Planet and Profit are interlinked to each other. All
three can simultaneously flourish and co-exist.
Let me give you some examples such as that of LED bulbs. 5-6 years ago, an LED bulb was
available for more than Rs 350. Today the same bulb is available for up to 50 rupees. Just
Imagine! Lowering the price of LED bulbs has helped it to reach crores of houses all over the
country and these are now being installed as street lights. This quantity is so large that it has
reduced the cost of production and also increased the profit. Who has benefited from this?
People have benefitted. The common man has benefitted with a lower electricity bill. Today,
about Rs 19 thousand crores are being saved every year by the people due to lower electricity
bills, thanks to LEDs. These savings have benefited the poor and the middle class of the
country.
The Planet has also benefited from this. The LED bulbs sold by government agencies at a
lower price alone have reduced the emission of about 40 million tonnes of carbon dioxide
every year.
That is, both have profited; there is a win-win situation for both. If you look at other schemes
and decisions of the government too, then this concept of People, Planet and Profit has been
more strongly implemented on ground in the last 5-6 years.
Now you too have seen how much the government has been emphasising upon Inland
Waterways. Waterway from Haldia to Banaras has been commissioned. Now waterways are
being extended to the North East as well.
People benefit from these waterways, because it reduces the cost of Logistics.
Planet also benefits from these waterways, because it burns less fuel. And we should not
forget that it will reduce the import of petrol and diesel and reduce traffic on the road.
Goods will be cheaper and will reach the destination via the shortest route quickly. Both the
buyer and the seller have profit in it.
Friends, there is another campaign going on in India - to free the country from single use
plastic. All the three subjects i.e. People, Planet and Profit are being addressed here.
It is very beneficial, especially for West Bengal. This increases your chances of growing
Jute's business here. Have you taken advantage of it? Have you started making packaging
material with jute? In a way, you are at the greatest advantageous position.
You should take advantage of this opportunity further. If you leave this opportunity, then who
will help you? Just imagine! When the Jute bag made in West Bengal will be in the hands of
everyone, then how big the profit will be for the people of Bengal!
Friends, Approaches of People Centric, People Driven and Planet Friendly Development
have now become a part of Governance in the country. Our technological interventions are
also compatible with the idea of People, Planet and Profit.
Through UPI, our banking has been Touchless, Contactless, Cashless and 24 into 7.
Transactions through BHIM APP are now creating new records. RuPay card is now
becoming the favourite card of the poor, farmers, middle class and every section of the
country. When we talk of a self-reliant India, why not use the RuPay Card with pride?
Friends, now the scope of banking service in the country has also reached those people, who
were kept in the category of Have-nots for a long time. Through DBT, JAM i.e. Jandhan
Aadhaar Mobile, it has been possible to deliver the necessary support to crores of
beneficiaries without leakage.
Similarly, Government e-marketplace, ie GeM, has given people an opportunity to earn profit
by connecting with the government. You are aware that small self help groups, MSMEs, can
provide their Goods and their services directly to the Government of India on the GeM
platform. Otherwise, an entrepreneur with a turnover of few lakhs could not think of selling
any goods he had produced directly to the central government.
Therefore, I also urge the ICC to motivate your members and the associated manufacturers to
join GeM in maximum numbers. If every manufacturer connected to you will join GeM, then
small businessmen will also be able to sell their products directly to the government.
Friends, when we talk about Planet, you are also observing that today ISA, I.e. International
Solar Alliance is becoming a big global movement. Efforts are being made to share the
benefits that India sees for itself in the field of Solar Energy with the whole world. I request
all the members of the Indian Chamber of Commerce to extend their Contribution and
Investment towards the Targets set for Renewable Energy, Solar Power Generation in the
country.
Invest in R&D and manufacturing of better Batteries to increase the power storage capacity
of the Solar Panel in the country. You can do Handholding of MSMEs, and other such
institutions, that are engaged in this work. In the changing world, Solar Rechargeable
Batteries is going to be a huge market. Can Indian industry lead it? India can become a huge
hub in this area.
The ICC and its members can set targets on these subjects by linking them to the years 2022
when India will complete 75 years of its independence and 2025 when the ICC will complete
its hundred years.
Friends, this is the time to recognize the opportunity, try your mettle and move towards new
heights. If this is the biggest crisis, then we should take full advantage of it, while taking the
biggest lessons from it.
I assure you that the government is fully committed to this objective and is with you. Feel
free to move forward, with new resolutions. Move forward with a new confidence!! At the
root of self-reliant India is self-confident India.
Gurudev Tagore has said in his poem 'Nooton Juger Bhor' - "Cholai Cholai Bajbe Joyer
Bheri, Paer Begei Poth Kete Jaay Korish Na Ar Deri", i.e. "Every moving step will be
declared. The feet running forward will create a new path. Don't delay now".
Just imagine how big this mantra is - moving feet will create a new path. When such a big
inspiration is in front of us, there is no question of stopping.
I am confident that when you celebrate 100 years of your establishment, when the country
celebrates 75 years of its independence, our country would have moved forward on the path
of self-reliant India.
Once again, my best wishes to you!
Stay healthy stay safe!
Thanks a lot!
Namaskar friends!
It has been two weeks since the Unlock-One. It is necessary to review the issues and the
experiences that have come in the forefront during this period. In today's discussion, I will get
the opportunity to learn and understand a lot from you. The salient points that will come out
of today's discussion and your suggestions will help the country to plan ahead.
Friends,
Timing plays a very crucial role in dealing with any crisis. Decisions taken at the right time
have immensely helped in controlling the spread of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Whenever India's fight against Coronavirus will be studied in the future, this period will be
remembered for the way in which we all have worked together during this time and how the
best example of Cooperative Federalism was set.
Friends,
When Coronavirus was not even a topic for discussion in several countries of the world, India
had already started taking decisions and was preparing to deal with it. We have worked day
in and day out to save the life of every Indian.
Thousands of Indians have returned home from abroad and lakhs of migrant workers have
returned to their villages in the past weeks. All routes such as rail, road, air, sea have been
opened.
Despite being a populous nation, the Coronavirus has not been as devastating in India as it
has been in the other countries. Several experts and health experts around the world are
discussing about the lockdown imposed in India and the discipline shown by the people of
India today.
Today, the recovery rate in India is above 50 per cent. Today, India is one of the leading
countries in the world with the highest survival rate among the COVID-19 patients. The
death of even a single person, even a single Indian due to Coronavirus is tragic and
unfortunate. But it is also true that today India is among those countries in the world with the
lowest COVID-19 deaths.
Today the experiences of several states arouse a confidence that India can move forward
amid the Coronavirus crisis by limiting its losses and can put its economy back on track at a
much faster pace.
Friends,
The last two weeks of Unlock-One has taught us that if we keep obeying the rules and all the
guidelines, then we can save the country from the harm inflicted by the Corona crisis.
Therefore, it is necessary to place a lot of emphasis on the importance of masks or face cover.
We must not go out of the house without a mask or a face-cover. This is as dangerous for the
person himself, as much for the people around him.
Therefore, we must religiously follow our mantra of 'do gaj ki doori' or social distancing;
washing of hands with soap for 20 seconds several times a day as well as frequent use of
sanitizers. These measures must be taken very seriously. This is very important for the safety
of oneself, for the safety of the family, especially for the children and the elderly at home.
By now almost all the offices have been opened. Even the offices in the private sector have
become operational. People have started going to offices, to the markets and the streets are
getting crowded. In such a scenario, all these measures will help us to prevent the
Coronavirus from spreading fast. The slightest carelessness, laxity or lack of discipline will
weaken our fight against Coronavirus.
We must always keep in mind that the better we are able to stop the virus from spreading, the
more our economy will open up, our offices will open, the markets will open, the transport
will open, and eventually new employment opportunities will grow.
Friends,
In the days to come, the experiences gained from the way the economic activities will expand
in several states, will also benefit the other states. In the last few weeks, green shoots have
started appearing in our economy. The power consumption which was decreasing earlier has
started increasing now. In May this year, the fertilizer sales have doubled compared to May
last year.
This time, kharif sowing has been higher by about 12-13% compared to the previous year.
Two-wheeler production has reached nearly 70 per cent of pre-lockdown levels. Digital
payment in retail has also reached the pre-lockdown levels.
Moreover, the increase in Toll Collection in the month of May depicts a growth in economic
activity. After a decrease in exports for 3 consecutive months, exports have bounced back in
June and have reached the levels of last year's Pre-Covid Period. All these signs are
encouraging us to move forward.
Friends,
The share of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries and MSMEs is very large in most of the
states. Under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' campaign, several provisions have been made for
these sectors in the last few days.
A number of decisions have been taken recently to support the MSMEs. Efforts are being
made to ensure that these MSMEs get credit from the banks in a time bound manner.
Industries with a turnover of up to Rs 100 crore have been given the benefit of automatic
increase of 20% additional credit.
If through Bank Committees we can ensure that the industries get loans fast, then they will be
able to start work as soon as possible and provide employment to the people.
Friends,
The smaller factories that we have here need guidance and hand-holding; I know that under
your leadership a lot of work is being done towards it. We have to work together on value
chains so that the trade and industries regain their old momentum. Economic activity will get
a fillip if specific economic activity points of the States work round the clock, loading-
unloading of goods is done expeditiously, and there is no hurdle at the local level in the
movement of goods from one city to another.
Friends,
The reforms that have taken place recently in marketing farmers’ produce will benefit the
farmers immensely. Because of this the farmers will get a new alternative to sell their
produce and their income will increase. We shall be able to minimise the loss that the farmers
incur because of the vagaries of nature and lack of storage facility. When the farmers’ income
will increase, the demand certainly will go up and the economy of the States will get a boost.
Especially, in the Northeast and tribal areas, many opportunities are going to open in farming
and horticulture sectors. Be it organic products, bamboo products or other tribal products, the
doors for a new market is going to open for these sectors. Every state will benefit from the
cluster-based policy that has been announced for local products. Hence, it is necessary that
we identify such products in every block and every district by processing or marketing them
so that we can place them in our country as well as in the global market.
Friends,
We have to work together to implement within a certain time-frame the announcements that
have been made under ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ Yojana recently. In this backdrop, I am also
keen to know your suggestions and preparations regarding economic activity as also fight
against Corona pandemic. I would now request the Home Minister to conduct further
discussions.
I welcome all the participants from across the nation and the world. The very conduct of such
an event and your participation, during these challenging times in itself arouses a new hope
and conveys an important message.
India will not only fight against Coronavirus, but will also win the battle and move forward.
India is not going to sit and wail over the crisis. Howsoever big the crisis might be, India is
determined to turn it into an opportunity. This Coronavirus Crisis has given India lessons in
being Atmanirbhar, that is, Self-Reliant!
Atmanirbhar Bharat means India will reduce its dependence on imports. Atmanirbhar Bharat
means India will save foreign exchange, worth lakhs of crores of rupees spent on imports.
Atmanirbhar Bharat means India won’t need to import, for which, it will constantly develop
resources domestically. Atmanirbhar means we become biggest exporters of the commodities
that we now import.
Friends, to achieve this, we must take every sector, every product and every service into
consideration and work holistically, to make India self-reliant in that particular area. Today’s
event is a manifestation and a robust step in the direction of the same thinking.
Today, a major step is being taken to make India self-reliant in the energy sector. This event
not only marks the implementation of reforms concerning just a single sector i.e. the Coal
Mining Sector but also represents the commitment to realize 130 crore aspirations.
This marks the beginning of lakhs of employment opportunities for our youth.
Friends,
When the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan was announced last month in order to realize the
resolve of a self-reliant India, many people thought that this was a usual government process.
But within a month of the announcement, every reform, be it in the sectors of agriculture,
MSME or now the Coal & Mining Sector, have been implemented on ground.
This shows India’s seriousness and commitment to turn this crisis into an opportunity. Not
only are we launching the auction of commercial coal mining today, but also freeing the coal
sector from decades of lockdown.
What has been the effect of lockdown of the coal sector; you know it better than me.
Give it a thought. The nation with the fourth largest coal reserves in the world; the second
largest producer in the world; that nation is not a coal exporter, but the second largest coal
importer in the world!
The question is, when we are one of the largest producers in the world, why can’t we be the
largest exporter?
This question always crops up in mine, yours and the minds of crores of Indians.
Friends, this has been our situation for decades. The country’s coal sector was entangled in
the mesh of captive and non-captive. It was kept outside the competition; transparency was a
major issue. Forget about fair process of auction, everybody is aware of the big scams
involving coal mines allocation. For this reason, coal sector lacked investment and its
efficiency was also questionable. Coal would be extracted in one state and sent to another
state, hundreds of kilometers away and, the originating state would wait for coal. It was quite
messy.
Friends, many steps were taken after 2014 to change this scenario. We implemented coal
linkage which no one could think about. Such steps provided impetus to coal sector.
Recently, we brought many reforms which were being thought about for decades. Now, India
has taken a big decision to fully open coal and mining sectors for competition, capital,
participation and technology. Care has been taken to ensure that the new players in private
mining sector do not face problem of finance.
Friends, self-reliance is not possible without strong mining and minerals sector; because
minerals and mining are important pillars of our economy.
After these reforms, now coal production and entire coal sector will become self—dependent.
Now market has been opened for coal; so, any sector can buy as per their requirements.
Friends, these reforms will not only benefit coal sector but other sectors as well. When we
increase coal production, then positive impact is also felt on production and processing in
Steel, Aluminium, Fertilizers and Cement sectors with an increase in power generation.
Fortunately, in India, reserves of coal, iron, bauxite and other minerals are located very close
to each other. So, reforms brought in minerals sector have got strength from coal mining
reforms.
Friends,
Beginning of auction today for commercial coal mining is a win-win situation for
stakeholders. The Industries, you, your businesses, investments will get new resources and
markets. State governments will get more revenue and a huge population of the country will
get employment. It means, there will be a positive impact on every sector.
Friends,
While implementing coal reforms, it has been ensured that India’s commitment to protect
environment doesn’t get weakened. Latest technology can be introduced to make gas from
coal. And environment will be protected with steps like coal gasification. Coal gas will be
used in transport and cooking while Urea and steel will promote manufacturing industries.
We have set a target to gasify around 100-million-ton coal by the year 2030. I am told that
four projects have been identified for this purpose and around 20 thousand crore rupees will
be invested in this process.
Friends,
These coal sector reforms are a big medium to make eastern and central India, our tribal belt
into pillars of development. Areas in our country having coal, minerals have not been able to
reach desired level of progress and prosperity. This is also the part of the country having a big
number of Aspirational Districts.People of these districts are aspiring for development, but
have lagged behind in terms of development.
You can imagine that 16 Aspirational districts in the country have a huge stock of coal; but
people of these areas have not got adequate benefit of this. Our friends from these places
have to migrate to far-flung cities for employment.
The steps taken towards commercial mining will be very helpful to a big population of
eastern and central India in providing them employment near their homes and reducing many
such problems.
Auction of these coal blocks today will itself generate lakhs of jobs in this sector. Not only
this, but infrastructure needed for coal extraction to transportation will also create
employment opportunities. Recently, the Government has taken a decision to spend 50
thousand crore rupees on creating such an infrastructure.
Friends, reforms and investment in coal sector will play a big role in making lives of people,
especially our poor and tribal brothers-sisters easy. Extra revenue generated through coal
production will be used for public welfare schemes there. States will also continue to get help
from the District Mineral Fund. A major chunk of this Fund is being utilized in development
of essential facilities in the areas surrounding coal mines. We are following the objective of
making people of mineral rich areas wealthy. The steps being taken today will greatly help
this objective.
Friends, this auction is taking place at a time when the economic activity is fast returning to
normal. Consumption and demand are fast attaining the pre – Covid-19 levels. There cannot
be a better time for a new beginning.
Be it demand in power consumption or demand for petroleum products; the last week of May
and first week of June have seen a rapid rise. Almost 200% jump has been witnessed in E
way bills as compared to April. Toll collection in the month of June has already reached 70%
of the February levels. Railway freight traffic has also witnessed a jump of 26% in the month
of May as compared to April. Total digital retail transaction is witnessing a rise in both
Volume as well as Value.
Friends, the rural economy has also started looking up. This year the crop area of Kharif is
13% higher than last year. Production and procurement of wheat has also increased this year.
As compared to last year 11% more wheat has been procured till now. This means more
money has gone into the pockets of farmers. All these indicators tell us that the Indian
economy is ready to bounce back and march forward.
Friends, India has come out of bigger crises and will come out of this one too. If we Indians
are millions of consumers, then we are also millions of producers. Success and growth of
India is certain; we can become Atmanirbhar!
Remember, few weeks ago we used to import most of our demand for N-95 masks, Corona
testing kits, PPE, and Ventilators. Now India is fulfilling its demand through ‘Make in India’.
And very soon we will become an important exporter of medical products. You must keep up
your faith and morale, we can do it. We can definitely become Atmanirbhar Bharat!
We can make Aatmanitbhar Bharat!
You all are major partners in the journey of Self Reliant India, started by 130 crore Indians.
Let us make India move forward, make India Atmanirbhar!
Once again many congratulations to all of you on this significant beginning in the coal sector.
There are very few occasions in life when there is an opportunity to change the history by
doing something. Today, the industrial world and the service sector of India have got the
opportunity to change the history to heal the people. We must not let go of this opportunity.
Come, let's take India forward and make India a self-reliant country.
Friends, today I got the opportunity to be with you. Although it is a matter of coal, we must
dream of diamonds. Once again, my best wishes to all of you for this significant beginning in
the coal sector! I especially want to congratulate my cabinet colleague Prahlad Joshi ji and
his entire team for utilizing this lockdown period effectively and studying all the nuances of
the entire department. I want to congratulate Prahlad ji, his Secretary and his team today for
finding out the new ways with which they can help the nation and providing a great
leadership.
You might be thinking that it is a small event. But I don’t think so. Prahlad ji, I see that you
are laying a strong foundation for a self-reliant India today. And so heartiest congratulations
to you and your team!
I want to once again assure my friends from industry present here today that I am with you. If
you take two steps for the welfare of the country; I am willing to walk four steps with you.
Come, let us not let go of this opportunity.
Once again, best wishes to all of you! Thank You!
Acharya Shri Mahashraman Ji; the President of the Terapanthi Mahasabha, Shri Suresh
Chandra Goel Ji; and all the dignitaries and friends who have joined this programme through
technology!
It is a privilege for all of us that we could connect together on this holy occasion of the birth
centenary of Saint Acharya Shri Mahapragya Ji. You, me and everyone can feel his blessings.
I pay my tributes to Saint Acharya Shri Mahapragya ji and also extend my wishes to all of
you. I also wish to offer a special thanks to Acharya Shri Mahashraman ji. Even in the
challenging situation arising due to the Coronavirus pandemic, he has organized this
programme so effectively through technology.
Friends,
There are many of you who have had the opportunity to meet Acharya Shri Mahapragya Ji.
At that time you must have experienced his spiritual energy. I am saying this because I have
constantly received affection and blessings of Acharya throughout my life.
I remember, when I became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he had visited Gujarat at that time.
I have had the opportunity to participate in his journey of non-violence and service to
humanity. I had told Acharya then, ' I wish Terapanth becomes my sect'. With the blessings
of Acharya Shree, Terapanth became my sect and I too became a follower of Acharya ji.
Friends,
In his presence, I always felt that there was nothing for oneself in the life of a Yugrishi like
him. His life, his thoughts, his thinking and everything is for the society and for the humanity
only.
Acharya Mahapragya Ji used to say, 'If we try to look beyond me and mine, everything will
be yours'. His mantra and philosophy were also visible in his life.
We have all seen that he had nothing in his life, but everyone was his own. In his life, there
was no yearning for 'possession' of anything, but only 'love' for every person.
Friends,
The philosophy of leading a life is easily found, but someone living this kind of a life is not
easily found. One has to strive hard and work selflessly for the society to reach such a
position in life. This is not an ordinary thing. But it is the extraordinary personality that
characterizes the 'extraordinary'.
That's why Rashtrakavi Ramdhari Singh Dinkar used to say - Acharya Mahapragya ji is the
Vivekananda of modern era. Similarly, Acharya Vidyananda, the great saint of the
Digambara tradition used to compare Mahapragya Ji to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. The
literary work of Acharya Mahapragya was also unparalleled!
Our revered Atal ji, who himself was such a great connoisseur of literature and knowledge,
used to often say - "I am a great lover of Acharya Mahapragya Ji's literature, the depth of his
literature and his knowledge and words". He had a divine gift and blessings in terms of
speech, his mesmerizing voice and the balance of choice of words.
Friends,
If you ever read the literature of Acharya Shri and recall his words, you will also feel how
deep his knowledge was and how he depicted the reflection of several great personalities!
He had written in depth on spiritual issues as much as on subjects like Philosophy, Politics,
Psychology and Economics.
Mahapragya has written over 300 books on subjects like Sanskrit, Hindi, Gujarati and
English. And you might remember his book - The Family and The Nation. This book was co-
authored by Mahapragya Ji with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Ji.
In this book, these two great personalities have provided a vision of how a family can become
a happy family and how a happy family can build a prosperous nation.
I also remember the day when Dr. Kalam had visited Gujarat after I became the Chief
Minister. At that time, I paid a visit to Acharya ji along with him. I was fortunate to be in the
presence of two great men at once. In the presence of both of them, I could directly
experience how a sage could have a scientific vision, and how a scientist could be a sage
lover.
Dr. Kalam used to say about Mahapragya ji that his life had only one purpose - Walk,
Acquire and Give. That is, travel relentlessly, acquire knowledge, and whatever is in life,
give it to the society.
Friends,
Mahapragyaji had travelled thousands of kilometres in his life. Even during his final
moments, he was on a journey of non-violence.
He used to say, 'Soul is my God, sacrifice is my prayer, friendship is my devotion,
moderation is my strength, and non-violence is my religion'.
He himself had lived this lifestyle and had taught the same to lakhs of people. Through Yoga,
he had taught the art of a depression-free life to lakhs of people.
It is also a wonderful coincidence that International Yoga Day will be celebrated a day later.
It will also be an opportunity for all of us to help in realizing Mahapragya ji's dream of 'happy
family and a prosperous nation', and to convey his ideas to the society.
Friends,
Acharya Mahapragya ji gave us another mantra. His mantra was - "Healthy person, healthy
society, and healthy economy". Under today's circumstances, his mantra is a big inspiration
for all of us. Today the country is moving forward with this mantra and self-determination.
I believe the notion of an ideal society and an ideal nation that our sages and saints have put
before us will soon be accomplished by our country. You all will make that dream come true.
May all of you be healthy and safe! And may you spread the message of Saint Pravar
Acharya Shri Mahapragyaji to the new generations! With these wishes, thank you very much!

Before this formal inauguration, I was talking to my brothers and sisters in Khagaria. Today,
you have also received some relief and satisfaction by talking to all of you in the village.
When the corona epidemic crisis started to escalate, all of you, the central government or the
state government, were in the concerns of both. In the meantime, he tried to help him where
he was. We also introduced special labour trains for our labour brothers and sisters!
Indeed, by talking to you, the freshness that was in your energy today, and a sense of respect,
a belief, i am feeling all this. Such a great crisis of corona, the whole world that was shaken,
was shaken, but you stood firm. The way the corona has been fought in the villages of India
has also given a great lesson to the cities.
Think, our country with more than 6 lakh villages, including more than two-thirds of India's
population, about 80-85 crore people who live in villages, has prevented the corona infection
in rural India in a very effective manner. And, even if the population of our villages is mixed
with all the countries of Europe, it is much more than that. These populations, mix the entire
United States, mix Russia, mix Australia, even if it is much more than that. It is a great thing
to combat the corona of such a large population with so much courage, to fight so much
success. Every Indian can be proud of it. The awareness of our rural India has worked behind
this success, our democratic arrangements up to the panchayat level, our health facilities, our
medical centre-wellness centre, our cleanliness drive has played an important role.
|
But, also, our colleagues working on the ground, Gram Pradhan, Anganwadi worker, Asha
workers, Jeevika Didi, all of them have done a very good job. All of them deserve a wow,
deserve praise.
Peers
If this had happened in another Western country, how much this success would have been
discussed internationally in the world. But we know that some people are hesitant to tell
themselves, some people feel that india's rural life will be a wow, so what will he respond to
in the world? You deserve this praise, you deserve this valour, you deserve such a big life and
death game where it is played, entitled to praise for escaping the villagers in front of such
viruses. Well there is a sense of this way in the world. There are also some people in our
country who will not pat your back, well, no one will pat or pat, I will keep cheering you. I
will continue to talk about your valour in the world with the GJ Baje. You have made the
virtue of saving thousands and millions of your people from the corona.
Today, every state has done the work that the villagers of India have done before the
beginning of this programme, I respectfully salute those who care about such villages,
villagers!
Salute this power of the poor, workers, workers of the country! Salute the villages of my
country. 100 bows. However, I am told that a large modern testing machine of corona testing
in Patna from Parso is also going to start functioning. About 1500 tests will be possible in a
single day from this machine. Congratulations to the people of Bihar for this testing machine
also.
My colleagues in the Union Cabinet who are joining the programme, respected Chief
Ministers of different states, Shri Respected Nitish Babu, Ashok Gehlot ji, Shivraj ji, Yogi
Adityanath ji, mPs and MLAs, all officers, representatives of Panchayats and my
hardworking workers from hundreds of villages of the country through technology, hello me
all again!!
Today's day is very historic. Today, for the welfare of the poor, a huge campaign has been
launched for its employment. This campaign is dedicated to our Labour brothers and sisters,
to the youth and sisters and daughters living in our villages. Most of them are labourers who
have returned home during the lockdown. They want to do something for the development of
their village with their hard work and skills! As long as they are in their village, they want to
move their village forward.
My Labour colleagues, the country also understands your feelings and your needs. The poor
welfare employment campaign starting from Khagaria today is a great means of meeting this
spirit, this need.
The campaign will be carried out in 116 districts of these six states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh,
Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. It is our endeavour to give work to the
labourers and workers near the house through this campaign. So far, you were pursuing cities
with your skills and hard work, and now you will move your village. And, friends, you will
be surprised to know that I was inspired by some labour colleagues.
Friends, I saw a news in the media. The news was from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh. A
government school was made a quarantine centre there. Those who came back from the city
kept them there. Several labourers from Hyderabad were kept in the centre. These labourers
were experts in dyeing and pop work. They wanted to do something for their village. So they
thought that there would be two time-eating accounts, and we use our skills. And see, while
in a government school, these labourers have rejuvenated the school with their skills.
When I went to the work of my labour brothers and sisters, their patriotism, their skills,
inspired me to my mind, out of that, I came to the idea that it was the people who did
something, and out of that this scheme has been born. You think, how much talent has
returned back to your village these days. The labour and skill that give momentum and
progress to every city in the country, when it is in rural areas like Khagaria, will also give a
boost to the development of Bihar!
Peers
Rs 50,000 crore is to be spent to provide you employment for the development of your
villages under garib kalyan rozgar abhiyan! With this amount, about 25 scopes have been
identified for employment in villages, for developmental activities. These 25 works or
projects are connected with the basic amenities of the village, which are to improve the lives
of the village people. You will have the opportunity to do these things while living in your
own village, while living with your family.
Now, the work of Anganwadi Bhawan, community toilets, rural Mandi and Kuan is being
taken up from today in The village of Khagaria. Similarly, every village has its own needs.
These needs will now be met through the Poor Welfare Employment Campaign. It will also
have Pucca houses for the poor somewhere in different villages, there will be plantation, shed
to keep the cattle. For drinking water, the water life mission will also be carried forward in
collaboration with Gram Sabhas. Further, emphasis will also be given to construction of
roads where necessary. And, of course, panchayat Bhawan will also be constructed where
there are no panchayat bhawans.
Peers
These are the things that should be done in the village. But, at the same, villages will also be
connected with modern facilities under this campaign. Now, like cities, every household in a
village needs to have a cheap and fast internet. It is necessary that our children in the village
can also read and write well. This need of the village has been linked to the poor welfare
employment campaign. This is happening for the first time in the history of the country when
in villages, more internet is being used than cities. The speed of internet in villages will be
increased, fibre cables reached, and there will be works related to it.
Friends, who will do all these things? The people of the village will do it! You will do the
same with my Labour partner who is involved together! Whether it is labourers, Mistry, small
shopkeepers who sell material, drivers, plumbers, electricians, mechanic, all kinds of
colleagues will get employment. Those who are our sisters will also be connected through
self help groups so that they can raise additional means for their families.
Friends, not only that, all of you workers, all of you, have also been introduced in the
mapping of skills. That is, your skills will be identified in the village itself so that you can get
the job done according to your skills! The needy will be able to reach out to you for the work
you know.

The Government is making all efforts that at this time of corona epidemic, you do not have to
borrow from anybody while living in villages, not to spread your hands to anybody. We
understand the self-esteem of the poor. You are Shramev Jayate, the people who worship
labour, you need work, you need employment. Keeping this sentiment paramount, the
government has made this scheme, the scheme has been implemented in such a short time.
Earlier, the Government had taken immediate steps at the beginning of the lock down to meet
the immediate needs of you and crores of poor in the country.
The self-reliant India campaign was started by the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. And
I remember, when we initially brought a plan for the poor, there was an outcry around the
industries – what will happen to the industries, what will happen to the trade, what will
happen to the MSME, first of all. A lot of people criticized me. But I know it was my priority
to hold the hands of the poor in this crisis.
About Rs. 2 lakh crore were spent on the scheme within a few weeks. In these three months,
80 crore poor have been given ration dal to the plate. Along with ration, they were also given
free gas cylinders. Similarly, more than 10,000 crore rupees were transferred directly to the
Jan Dhan accounts of 20 crore poor mothers and sisters. An assistance of Rs. 1000/-was also
sent directly to their accounts for the poor elderly, mothers and sisters and disabled
companions.
Look
If your Jan Dhan accounts were not opened at home, these accounts and Aadhaar cards were
not added to the mobile, how could it be? You will remember the first time! The money was
running from above, your name was there, but you didn't come! Now, all this is changing. In
case of a government shop, a ration card scheme has also been introduced. That is, now our
poor brothers and sisters will be able to get ration in any city in any state of the country on
the same ration card.
Peers
Self-reliant farmers are equally essential for India. But, for so many years, agriculture and
farmers in our country were unnecessarily tied to rules and laws. All of you farmer
companions who are sitting in front of me will be feeling this helplessness for so many years!
The farmer was not given the right to decide where the farmer could sell his crop, store his
crop or not. We have scrapped such discriminating laws two weeks ago! Now, where you sell
the crop, this government will not decide, the officers will not decide, but the farmer himself
will decide.
Now the farmer can sell his crop outside his state too, and sell it in any market! Now you can
connect with the traders who pay a good price for your produce, directly with the companies,
selling their crops directly. Earlier, the law which prohibited the stock of crops has now been
changed.
Peers
In the self-reliant India package, an investment of Rs. 1 lakh crore has also been announced
to become cold storage to keep farmers ' crops, farmers to be directly linked to the market.
When the farmers join the market, they will also open up avenues to sell their crops at higher
prices.
You must have heard of another verdict under the Self-Reliant India campaign! Industry
groups will be formed to make small products, packing things, from local produce in towns
and small towns, near your villages. It is going to be a huge benefit to the farmers.
Now, like, how good is the maize crop in Khagaria! But if the farmers are directly connected
with the corn products companies, khagaria's local products are ready, how much will it be
beneficial! Similarly, in Bihar, there is Makhana, Litchi, banana! In up, there is Amla, it is
common, there is chilli in Rajasthan, pulses in Madhya Pradesh, in Odisha-Jharkhand, there
are many local products in every district which are planned to be installed in the nearby
industry.
Peers
All these efforts that have been going on for the last six years have the same objective, our
village, our poor, standing on their own, empowered. None of our poor, labourers, farmers
need any support! After all, we are the ones who live with the honour of labour, not by
support!
The Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan will also protect your self-esteem, and your labour will
also develop your village. Today, your servant, and the entire country, with this thought, are
working for your dignity and dignity with this resolution.
You should work, but I also request that you take necessary precautions. Do not forget to
apply masks, cover the garfish or face with cloth, cleanliness, and follow the rule of distance
of two yards. If you are careful, your village, your home will avoid this infection. It is very
important for both our lives and our livelihood.
Be healthy, move forward, and move the country forward with you, with these good wishes,
thank you all your colleagues very much!!
I am grateful to all the respected Chief Ministers, particularly to the Government of Bihar, for
planning and advancing this very important work, thank you all very much for expressing my
gratitude to you and for the support.
My best wishes to all of you on the 6th International Day of Yoga. The International Day of
Yoga is a day of solidarity. This day sends out the message of universal brotherhood. It is the
day of oneness of humanness. That, which brings us together, is Yoga. That, which narrows
down distances, is Yoga.
People participating in the 'My Life - My Yoga' video blogging competition from around the
world amid this Coronavirus crisis, shows the growing enthusiasm for Yoga! And how
widespread it is!
Friends,
This year's theme of International Day of Yoga is 'Yoga at home and Yoga with family'.
Today we are practising Yoga together with our family at our homes, staying away from
mass gatherings. When children, grown-ups, youngsters, or the elderly, everyone is
connected through Yoga, there is a flow of energy in the entire house. Therefore, this time the
Yoga Day is also a day of emotional Yoga; it is also a day to enhance our family bonding.
Friends,
Today, the world is realising the importance of Yoga even more due to the Coronavirus
pandemic. If our immunity is strong then we can more effectively defeat this disease. There
are several types of Yoga Asanas to boost the immunity. Those postures increase the strength
of our body and strengthen our metabolism.
But the Covid-19 virus specifically attacks our respiratory system. The one technique that
helps in strengthening our Respiratory system the most is 'Pranayama', i.e. the breathing
exercise. In general, the 'Anulom Vilom Pranayam' is more popular. It is also very effective.
But there are many types of Pranayam. It includes Sheetali, Kapalbhati, Bhramari, Bhastrika
and many more.
All these techniques and forms of Yoga help a lot in boosting both our respiratory and
immune systems. Therefore, I urge you to include Pranayama in your daily practice, and also
learn different Pranayama techniques in addition to the Anulom-Vilom. A large number of
Covid-19 patients all over the world are resorting to these Yoga techniques today. The power
of yoga is helping them to defeat this disease.
Friends,
Yoga also helps to boost our confidence and morale so that we can overcome crises and win.
Yoga gives us peace of mind and also helps us to develop discipline and stamina. Swami
Vivekananda used to say- "An ideal person is the one who is active even in absolute
quietness and experiences complete peace even in extreme turbulent phases".
This is a great ability for any person i.e. not giving up and being in a balanced state of mind
during an adversity; Yoga gives strength during these times. So, you too must have seen and
realized that a practitioner of Yoga never loses patience during a crisis.
Yoga means - ‘समत्वम् योग उच्यते ’, that is, Yoga is the name of staying the same and staying
steadfast in every situation - favourable-unfavourable, success-failure, joy-sorrow.
Friends,
Yoga enhances our quest for a healthier planet. It has emerged as a force for unity and
deepens the bonds of humanity. It does not discriminate. It goes beyond race, colour, gender,
faith and nations.
Anybody can embrace Yoga. All you need is some part of your time and empty space. Yoga
is giving us not only the physical strength, but also mental balance and emotional stability to
confidently negotiate the challenges before us.
Friends,
If we can fine tune our chords of health and hope, the day is not far away when the world will
witness the success of a healthy and a happy humanity. Yoga can definitely help us make this
happen.
Friends,
As we are talking about the solution to problems through Yoga and the welfare of the world, I
also want to remind you of Yogeshwar Krishna's Karmayoga. In the Gita, Lord Krishna while
explaining Yoga had said- ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्' i.e. Efficiency in Action is Yoga. This
mantra always teaches us that yoga creates the ability to become more qualified in life. If we
do our work with discipline and fulfil our obligations, it will also be a form of yoga.
Friends,
Karmayoga is further explained. It is said - यु क्त आहार विहारस्य, यु क्त चे ष्टस्य कर्मसु ।
यु क्त स्वप्ना-व-बोधस्य, योगो भवति दु:खहा।।
That is, yoga means, eating the right food, playing the right sport, having the right habits of
sleeping and waking up, and performing our work and duties correctly. With this Karmayoga,
we get the solution to all the problems. Moreover, selfless work, the spirit of serving
everyone without any selfishness is also called Karmayoga. This spirit of Karmayoga is
embedded in the essence of India. The whole world has experienced this spirit of selflessness
in India.
Friends,
When we move ahead with Yoga and the spirit of Karmayoga, our power as an individual, as
a society and as a country also increases manifold. Today, we have to take a pledge in this
spirit - we will do everything possible for our health and for the health of our loved ones. As
a conscious citizen, we will move forward together as a family and as a society.
We will try to make 'Yoga at home and Yoga with family' a part of our lives. If we do this,
we will certainly succeed and emerge victorious. With this belief, I wish you all a very Happy
Yoga Day again!
Namaskar! I have got the opportunity to talk to all of you. We all have seen many ups and
downs in our personal lives. In our social life too, in our villages or cities, we face different
kinds of challenges. You see, lightning had struck yesterday. In Bihar and Uttar Pradesh,
many people have lost their lives. But nobody had thought that such a big crisis would hit
mankind around the world, a crisis in which people are unable to fully help others even if
they wanted to. In these times, there would be hardly anyone who has not faced any
problem.
Be it the children, the elderly, the women, men, a country or the world, everyone has faced
problems. And, we do not know yet when we will get rid of this disease in the future. Yes,
we are aware of one remedy which includes 'do gaz doori' or social distancing and covering
the mouth, using a face cover or a cloth. Until the vaccine is developed for Coronavirus, we
will be able to fight it with this remedy.

Friends,
Today, while you all were talking to me, we could see the happiness on your face, the
expression of your eyes and your love. The popular and energetic Chief Minister of Uttar
Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath ji is present in the programme. There are Ministers of the
government, senior officers associated with the administration, and our friends from the
different districts of UP are also present.
We all have realized the power of labour. Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan
launched by the Government of India has formed the basis of this power of labour. Today,
this same power has inspired the 'Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Abhiyan'. That is, Yogi
ji's government has extended the scheme of the Central Government in both qualitative and
quantitative manner.
The UP government has not only added several new schemes to it, and has increased the
number of beneficiaries, but has also fully integrated it with the goal of self-reliant India.
The 'Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Abhiyan', is a very good example of the double
engine that I always mention about. And I am confident that under the leadership of Yogi ji,
the way Yogi ji and his team have turned a disaster into an opportunity by working whole-
heartedly, the other states of the country will also learn a lot from this scheme. Everyone will
be inspired by that too.
I hope that other states will also come up with such schemes. And I am a Member
of Parliament from UP. When Uttar Pradesh does good work like this, I feel immensely
happy and satisfied, because I too have the responsibility of the people here.
Friends,
The one, who shows courage and wisdom in times of crisis, is bound to succeed. Today,
when the world is in such a big crisis due to Coronavirus, the courage and wisdom shown by
the Uttar Pradesh government and the way it has successfully handled the situation, is indeed
commendable and praiseworthy.
For this, I applaud the 24 crore citizens of Uttar Pradesh. I salute them! The work you have
done has set an example for the whole world. The statistics of Uttar Pradesh can surprise the
greatest experts of the world. Be it UP's doctors, paramedical staff, sanitation workers,
policemen, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, bank and post-office staff, transport
department or my worker friends, everyone has contributed with complete devotion.
Yogi ji and his entire team, be it the public representatives or the officials, everyone has done
a commendable job. The way you all together have handled the situation in UP during the
most difficult time, every child and every family of Uttar Pradesh will remember it with
great pride for many years to come.
Friends,
The efforts and achievements of Uttar Pradesh are huge not because it is just a state, but it is a
state bigger than many countries in the world. The people of UP have themselves begin to
realise this achievement, but once you know the figures then you will be even
more surprised!
|
Friends,
If we look at the four big countries of Europe, i.e. England, France, Italy and Spain; these
countries used to be the superpower of the world for 200-250 years! They still dominate the
world! Today if we add the total population of these four countries, it is about 24 crores!
Population of UP alone is 24 crores! That is, the number of people in these four countries i.e.
England, France, Italy and Spain is equal to the population living in Uttar Pradesh! But the
Coronavirus has claimed the lives of one lakh 30 thousand people in these four countries,
whereas only 600 people have lost their lives in UP! I believe death of even a single person
is tragic.
But we also have to agree that despite the efforts made by these four countries put together,
the deaths due to the virus is several times more in those countries compared to UP. These
countries are more developed; they also have more resources and the governments have put
in all their efforts! But still they did not get the success which UP has achieved in saving its
citizens!
Friends,
Most of you must have heard about the situation in America too! There is no dearth of
resources and modern technology in America. Yet, today America is very badly affected by
Corona! You should also remember that the population of America is around 33 crores,
whereas in UP there are 24 crore people! But in the US, 1 lakh 25 thousand people have died
so far, while in UP about 600 people have died.
If Yogi ji's Uttar Pradesh government had not made proper arrangements, if there was a
catastrophic situation in UP just like in the US, then UP could have lost 85,000 people instead
of 600! But, the hard work done by the government of UP, in a way, has managed to save the
lives of at least 85 thousand people! Today, if we are able to save the lives of our citizens, it
is indeed a matter of great satisfaction. It is boosting the confidence of the country!
Otherwise there was a time when the MP from Prayagraj, which was then known as
Allahabad, was the Prime Minister of the country and there was a stampede during the
Kumbh, Hundreds of thousands of people were killed. At that time, the people who were in
the government had focused all their time and efforts in hiding the death toll. Now it is really
comforting to know that the people of Uttar Pradesh are now safe.
Friends,
We must always remember one more thing. All this was done when more than 30-35
lakh migrants and worker friends from across the country were returning to their villages in
UP during the last few weeks. The UP government had brought back its stranded people by
running hundreds of Shramik Special trains. The risk of the spread of the infection from
these friends returning from other states was even greater. But, the way Uttar Pradesh has
handled the situation with immense sensitivity, has pulled the state out of a major crisis.
Friends,
Before 2017, the manner in which the government was being run in UP, we cannot even
imagine such results under those conditions. The previous governments would have avoided
this challenge by citing the excuse of limited number of hospitals and hospital beds; but Yogi
Ji did not do so. Yogi ji and his government understood the seriousness of the situation. He
understood what was happening to large countries of the world. So, he and his government
worked on a war footing.
Be it quarantine centres or isolation facilities, all efforts have been focussed on their
construction. Despite his father's death, Yogi ji has been with the people of Uttar Pradesh to
save them from Coronavirus pandemic instead of going to his father's funeral. For the
workers who were coming from outside, about 60 thousand village monitoring committees
were formed in a very short time. These committees helped a lot in developing the system of
quarantine in villages. In just two-and-a-half months, one lakh beds were also arranged in the
hospitals for the treatment of corona patients in UP.
Friends,
During the lockdown, the way the Yogi government has worked to ensure that the poor have
no crisis of food is also unprecedented. Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna
Yojana, UP has provided free ration to the poor and the returnee migrants in a very short
time. This means, such arrangements were made so that 15 crore poor people didn't
face a food crisis, so that nobody had to go to bed hungry.
During this period, 42 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrains have been distributed to the poor in
UP. The UP government also opened the doors of the government ration shop to those who
did not have a ration card. Moreover, about 5000 crore rupees were also directly transferred
to the Jan Dhan accounts of 3.25 crore poor women of Uttar Pradesh. Probably no
government has helped the poor in such a big way since India's independence.
Friends,
Be it the campaign to take India on the path of self-reliance at a fast pace or be it the Garib
Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan, Uttar Pradesh is also moving at a fast pace even on these
parameters. Under the Garib Kalyan Rozgar Abhiyan, many projects are being started in
villages to raise the income of the workers. The central government has prepared a list of 25
such works for the welfare of the poor such as construction of pucca houses, construction of
community toilets, work of panchayat buildings, construction of wells and ponds,
construction of roads, internet lines, etc.
Today, carrying this work forward, including the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, Uttar Pradesh
has directly tried to provide employment to about 1.25 crore labourers and workers. Out of
this, about 60 lakh workers are being given employment in projects related to village
development while about 40 lakh are being given employment in small industries i.e.
MSMEs. Besides this, a loan of about 10 thousand crore rupees has been allocated to
thousands of entrepreneurs under the Mudra Yojana for self-employment. Besides, today,
thousands of artisans have been provided with modern machines and toolkits. This will also
grow and facilitate their work. I once again congratulate all the beneficiaries and those who
have got employment.
Friends,
Being a Member of Parliament from UP, I have also been in constant touch with Yogi ji. It
shows how intensive the preparation of the Uttar Pradesh government has been, to identify
the employees, to identify the skills of more than 30 lakh workers, to prepare the data of their
skills and experience and to make proper arrangements for their employment. UP's 'one
district one product' scheme is already promoting the local products and giving them a big
market.
Now, under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan', with the clusters of industries being formed to
promote such local products all over the country, Uttar Pradesh will benefit immensely.
Several industrial clusters such as that of clothes, silk, leather, copper etc. will get a boost.
These products will get a new market.
Friends,
The farmers of Uttar Pradesh will receive a huge benefit out of the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat
Abhiyan'. There has been a continuous demand for 3 major reforms for decades for the
farmers and the small businesses. Now the 3 laws enacted by the central government have
given the farmers the right to sell their produce outside the mandis. That is, the farmer will
sell his produce where he gets better prices. Secondly, if the farmer wishes, now he can
decide the price of his crop at the time of sowing.
Now the potato growing farmer can sign an agreement with the chips-making industry, the
mango farmer with the mango juice making industry, the tomato farmer with the sauce
making industry, at the time of sowing his crops! This will provide relief to him from
worrying about the falling prices.
Friends,
Besides, many new initiatives are being taken for our livestock rearers. Two days ago, a
special infrastructure fund of Rs.15,000 crores has been created for the livestock and dairy
sector. With this, about 1 crore more new farmers and cattle rearers will be linked to the
dairy sector and new facilities related to the dairy sector will be created. It is estimated that
in the days to come, about 35 lakh new jobs will be created in the villages. The day before
yesterday, the central government has taken another important decision to promote tourism in
UP.The Kushinagar airport, an important airport in terms of the Buddhist circuit, has been
declared an international airport. This will strengthen air connectivity in Purvanchal and
crores of devotees within the country and abroad who believe in Lord Buddha will now be
able to come to Uttar Pradesh easily. This will also create many employment and self-
employment opportunities for the local youth. And you are also aware of one special feature
of the tourism sector, this sector provides employment to the maximum number of people
with a minimum available capital.
Friends,
Uttar Pradesh has always been the most important part of India's growth trajectory. The
contribution of Uttar Pradesh to the mission of empowering the villages, the poor and the
country is growing continuously after the BJP government was formed here. Uttar Pradesh
has worked at a fast pace on every major scheme in the last 3 and a half years. In just three
years, more than 30 lakh pucca houses have been built for the poor in UP. With just three
years of hard work, UP has declared itself free from open defecation. In just three years, UP
has given government jobs to 3 lakh youth in a transparent manner. In just three years of
efforts, there has been a 30 per cent drop in maternal mortality rate in UP.
Friends,
The encephalitis epidemic in East Purvanchal had been wreaking havoc for years. Many
infants died a tragic death due to this disease. Now with the efforts of the UP government,
the number of patients infected with this disease has reduced; the death rate has also come
down by 90 percent. Besides, UP has also done a commendable job in terms of setting up
medical colleges or providing other facilities under the Ayushman Bharat Abhiyan.
There has been an unprecedented improvement in basic amenities like electricity, water and
roads. UP is moving ahead in the construction of new roads and expressways. And most
importantly, today, there is peace in Uttar Pradesh; the rule of law is prevailing. This is the
reason why Uttar Pradesh is being watched by investors from all over the world. UP is taking
great advantage of whatever steps the government is taking to attract domestic and foreign
investment. And even today, while other states are battling with Corona, UP has started such
a major scheme for its development. In a way, UP is utilizing every opportunity created by
the crisis. Once again many congratulations to all of you for these employment
opportunities!!
Remember, our fight against Corona is still going on. Go out for work, but maintain ‘do gaj
doori’, cover your mouth and nose with face masks and constantly maintain cleanliness.
Uttar Pradesh will win this battle of both life and livelihood and India too will win.
Thanks a lot!!
Honorable Reverend Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Revered Fathers, Distinguished
members of Mar Thoma Church,
It is my great privilege to address this august gathering. We have gathered to mark the special
occasion of the 90th birthday of Most Revered Doctor Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan. I
convey my greetings to him, and I wish him a long life and best health. Dr. Joseph Mar
Thoma has devoted his life for the betterment of our society and nation. He has been
particularly passionate about removal of poverty and women empowerment.
|
Friends,
The Mar Thoma Church is closely linked with the noble ideals of Saint Thomas, the Apostle
of Lord Christ. India has always been open to spiritual influences from many sources. The
contributions of Saint Thomas and, following him, the Indian Christian community are
deeply valued. With Saint Thomas we associate humility. He rightly said “Humility which is
a virtue, is always fruitful in good works”. It is with this spirit of humility that the Mar
Thoma Church has worked to bring a positive difference in the lives of our fellow Indians.
They have done so in areas such as healthcare and education. Saint Thomas was blessed with
immense wisdom. The Mar Thoma Church played a role in India's freedom struggle. The
Church was at the fore-front of working towards national integration.
This Church fought the Emergency. It is a matter of immense pride that the Mar Thoma
Church is firmly rooted in Indian values. The contribution of the Church has also been
recognized at the national level. The former Metropolitan of Mar Thoma Church, Philipose
Mar Chrysostom, was conferred with the Padma Bhushan in 2018. He inspires many.
Friends,
The world is fighting a strong battle against a global pandemic. COVID-19 is not only a
physical sickness that is a threat to the lives of people. It also takes our attention to unhealthy
life-styles. A global pandemic implies that humanity as a whole needs healing. Let us do
everything possible to further harmony and happiness in our planet.
Friends,
You would be happy to know that powered by our Corona warriors, India is firmly fighting
COVID-19. Earlier this year, some people had predicted that the impact of the virus in India
would be very very severe. But, Due to lockdown and many initiatives taken by the
Government as well as a people driven fight, India is much better placed than many other
nations. India's recovery rate is rising.
|
Any loss of life is unfortunate, due to Covid or otherwise. However, India's death per million
due to Covid is under 12. To place this in context, the death rate in Italy is 574 per Million.
The figures in America, Britain, Spain, and France are also much higher than India. Lakhs of
villages, home to 85 crore people, remain almost untouched by Coronavirus.
Friends,
A people driven fight has given good results so far but can we let our guard down? NO, Not
at all. Infact, we have to be even more careful now. Wearing masks, Social distancing, दो गज
की दरू ी(Do Gaj ki doori), Avoiding crowded places, Regular hand washing, these remain
important.
At the same time, we have to focus on economic growth and prosperity for 130 crore Indians.
The wheels of trade and commerce have to move. Agriculture has to flourish. In the last few
weeks, the Government of India has addressed both short-term and long-term issues relating
to the economy. From the sea to space, From the farms to the factories, people-friendly and
growth friendly decisions have been taken.
The call for Atma Nirbhar Bharat, self-reliant India will ensure economic strength and
prosperity for every Indian. A month ago, the Union Cabinet cleared the Pradhan Mantri
Matasya Sampada Yojana. This scheme is going to transform our fisheries sector. With an
investment of over Rupees Twenty Thousand Crore, this scheme seeks to boost the sector.
The aim is to also increase export earnings and provide more employment to over fifty five
lakh people. We want to ensure better technology, infrastructure and make value chains
stronger. I am confident my fishermen sisters and brothers in Kerala will gain from this
scheme.
Friends,
Historic reforms have been undertaken in the space sector. These reforms will ensure greater
use of space assets and activities. Access to data and technology will improve. I see several
youngsters in Kerala and particularly in South India taking a keen interest in science and
technology. They will gain from the reforms.
Friends,
Our Government has always been guided by sensitivity and a long-term vision to make India
a growth engine. We have taken decisions not from comfortable Government offices in Delhi
but after feedback from people of the ground. It is this spirit that ensured every Indian has
access to a bank account. Over 8 crore families have access to smoke free kitchens. Over 1.5
crore houses have been made to give shelter to the homeless.
India is home to the largest healthcare scheme in the world, Ayushman Bharat. Over a crore
people have got quality treatment. For the poor, we are bringing one nation-one ration card
scheme to help them where they are. For the middle class, we have brought a number of
initiatives, to boost Ease of living. For farmers, we have increased the MSP and made sure
they get the right price and making the sector free from middle men.
For women, we are ensuring that their health gets due attention via various schemes. And,
their career path is not compromised through extension of maternity leaves. The Government
of India does not discriminate between faith, gender, caste, creed or language. We are guided
by the desire to empower 130 crore Indians and our guiding light is the ‘Constitution of
India’.
Friends,
The Holy Bible talks extensively about togetherness. Now is the time to join ranks, work
together for the advancement of our nation. Think of this- how can our actions contribute to
national development? Today India is saying- we will produce locally and also buy local
products. This will light the lamp of prosperity in the homes of many. There are many ways
to strengthen our nation. The Mar Thoma Church, in line with its values will surely rise to the
occasion and play a key role in India's growth trajectory in the times to come.
Once again, I convey my greetings to Honourable Reverend Dr. Joseph Mar Thoma
Metropolitan .
Thank you all. Thank you very much.
My dear countrymen, Namaskar! Mann Ki Baat has now attained the halfway mark in its
journey for the year 2020. During this period, we touched upon a multitude of subjects.
Naturally, much of our conversation revolved around the global pandemic; the calamity that
confronted the human race but, I have been noticing these days, an endless topic of
discussion among people is, “when will this year go by!” Phone conversations tend to begin
with the lament, “why is this year moving on so sluggishly?” People are writing, conversing
with friends on how the year is not good. Some of them are expressing that 2020 is not
auspicious. People just want the year to be over, one way or the other.
Friends, there are times when I feel why it is so! It is possible that there are reasons behind
such remarks. Just 6-7 months ago, little did we know about the catastrophe that Corona is,
nor had one expected the fight to go on this long! As if one calamity weren’t enough, the
country has had to face an unending slew of challenges, day after day. A few days ago, our
east coast had to face the fury of cyclone Amphan; on the West coast it was cyclone Nisarg.
In many a state, our farmer brothers and sisters had to bear the brunt of swarming locusts….
if nothing else, many parts of the country have been witnessing intermittent earthquakes.
Amidst all these, the country has had to deal with the designs of some of our neighbours. As a
matter of fact, rare are the occasions when one gets to hear of adversities of this kind that too
simultaneously. We have come to a stage where people are linking even minor incidents to
these challenges. Friends, adversities do descend upon us; calamities do confront us…. but
the question is – should they lead us into the belief that the year 2020 is not good? Is it
rational to presume on the basis of the first half that the entire year would be so? Not at all,
my dear countrymen, absolutely not. In a given year, challenges could vary between one and
say, fifty; the number does not determine the goodness of that year. Historically, India has
always emerged brighter and stronger, ensuring victory over all kinds of disasters and
challenges. For centuries, myriad tyrants invaded India pushing her to the edge of such an
abyss of adversities that people once used to feel that the very idea, the fabric of Bharat
would be wiped out: her culture would be annihilated. But India overcame the scourge, and
more gloriously so.
Friends, we are familiar with our adage- ‘Creation is permanent…. creation is continuous.’ I
am reminded of a few lines of a song.
YEH KALKAL CHALCHAL BEHTI, KYA KEHTA GANGA DHARA?
YUG YUG SE BEHTA AATA, YEH PUNYA PARWAAH HAMARA.
Gurgling and burbling, what do the ripples of the Ganga say?
For eons and eons, unstoppable has been our mighty divine flow.
The song further says,
KYA USKO ROK SAKENGE, MITNE WALE MIT JAYIEN,
KANKAD-PATHAR KI HASTI, KYA BADHA BANKAR AAYE.
Who has the might to stem the steady flow….
many sank without a trace!
Can pebbles and stones,
Ever be an impediment to the divine grace?
India too, on the one hand, witnessed a series of colossal adversities; on the other, numerous
forms of creations kept evolving, overcoming hurdles. Literature saw resurgence, new
researches emerged, new concepts were propounded. This means, even in the worst of times,
the process of creation went on undeterred in every field, enriching our culture, leading to our
country’s progress. India has always transformed adversities into stepping stones to success.
With the same sentiment, we have to move on, march on, in today’s troubled times. If you
advance, in step with 130 crore countrymen, this year will prove to be a record setter, path
breaker on new fronts for the country. This very year the country will attain newer goals,
reaching newer heights with all new wings. I firmly believe in the collective might of 130
crore countrymen…..all of you…I have firm belief in the glorious heritage of the country.
My dear countrymen, irrespective of the magnitude of the calamity confronting us, India’s
sanskar…way of life inspires one and all to serve selflessly. The way India extended a
helping hand to the world during difficult times, it has reinforced India’s role in ushering in
peace and development. This period also saw the world realising India’s spirit of universal
brotherhood…at the same time it also noticed India’s commitment and might when it comes
to safeguarding her sovereignty and territorial integrity. Those who cast an evil eye on Indian
soil in Ladakh have got a befitting response. India honours the spirit of friendship…she is
also capable of giving an appropriate response to any adversary, without shying away. Our
brave soldiers have proven that they will not let anyone cast an evil eye on the glory and
honour of Mother India.
Friends, the entire country comes together in paying tributes to the bravery of our jawans who
attained martyrdom in Ladakh. The entire country bows to them in reverence, with gratitude.
Just like their family members, every Indian painfully regrets the loss. The inner sense of
pride that families feel on the supreme sacrifice of their brave sons…their sentiment for the
country, constitutes the true power, the might of the country. You might have seen parents of
martyrs referring to sending other sons, other young family members too, to join the army.
The words of the father of Shaheed Kundan Kumar of Bihar, keep echoing. He had
mentioned sending even his grandsons to the army to defend the country. This spirit
permeates across all martyr families. Truly, the sense of sacrifice displayed by these family
members is worthy of veneration. The resolve with which our jawans made the supreme
sacrifice for the security of Mother India, should be the aim of our lives….and this applies to
each and every one of us. Our pursuits and endeavours should be in the same direction…we
should strive towards enhancing the country’s capabilities and capacities in safeguarding our
borders. A self-reliant India would be a tribute to our martyrs in the truest, deepest sense.
Rajni ji has written to me from Assam. She says, after watching what happened in eastern
Ladakh, she has taken a vow…and the vow is that she will buy only ‘local’….and for the
sake of ‘local’, she will also be vocal. I am receiving messages on these lines from every
corner of the country. Many have expressed through their letters that they have adopted this
very path. Similarly, Mohan Ramamurthy from Madurai, writes that he wishes India to be
self-reliant in the defence sector.
Friends, before independence, in the realm of the defence sector, our country was ahead of
many countries in the world. There used to be a multitude of ordnance factories. Many
countries that lagged behind us then, are ahead of us now. After independence, we should
have made efforts in the defence sector, taking advantage of our prior experience…. we did
not. But today, in the fields of defence and technology, India is relentlessly endeavouring to
advance on those fronts…. India is taking strides towards self-reliance.
Friends, no mission can be successfully achieved without people’s participation. And that is
why, on the path towards a self-reliant India, as a citizen, our collective resolve, commitment
and support is necessary; rather imperative. When you buy ‘local’, become vocal for local
you play a role in strengthening the country. This, too, in its own way, is service to one’s
country. Whatever be your profession; wherever, there is ample scope in the realm of service
to the country. Keeping in mind the requirement of the country, whatever you do, comes
under this very spirit of service. And this very spirit on your part lends strength to the
country, one way or the other. We should also remember that the stronger our country is, the
possibilities of peace in the world will proportionately be bolstered.
It is said,
VIDYA VIVADAYA DHANAM MADAAY, SHAKTIH PARESHAAN PARIPEEDNAYA
KHALASYA SADHOH VIPAREETAM ETAT, GYAANAY DAANAY CH
RAKSHANAY.
Which means, a person who is wicked by nature, uses education to foster conflict, wealth for
conceit and strength to trouble others. Whereas, a gentleman uses education for knowledge,
wealth for helping and strength for protecting. India has always used her might, echoing the
same sentiment. India’s solemn resolve is to safeguard her honour and sovereignty. India’s
aim is – a self-reliant India. India’s tradition is -trust and friendship. India’s spirit is
brotherhood. We shall keep moving ahead abiding by these principles.
My dear countrymen, in these times of the corona crisis, the country has moved out of the
lockdown phase to the unlock phase. During this unlock period, one will have to focus deeply
on two points- defeating corona and strengthening the economy and bolstering it. Friends,
during the unlock period, we have to stay more vigilant compared to the lockdown period.
Only your alertness can save you from corona. Always, remember, if you do not wear a
mask, do not observe the two-yard social distancing norms or do not take other precautions,
you are putting others at risk besides yourselves, especially the elderly and children at home.
Hence, I urge all countrymen…and I repeatedly do so…do not be negligent…take care of
yourselves and others too.
Friends, during this unlock phase, many other things are getting unlocked, which had
hitherto, shackled the country for decades. For years our mining sector was in a state of
lockdown. The decision to allow commercial auction has altered the scenario completely. Just
a few days ago, historic reforms in the space sector were brought in. Through these reforms,
the sector which was in a state of lockdown for years was set free. This will not only pace up
the movement towards self-reliant India, it will also boost up the advancement of technology
in India. If you glance at our agricultural sector, you will notice that many aspects of this
sector too were in a state of lockdown for decades. This sector too has now been unlocked.
This, on the one hand grants freedom to farmers to sell their produce to anyone they wish to,
anywhere; on the other hand, this has paved the way for enhanced loans. There are many such
sectors in which, amidst, all crises, our country is opening up new avenues of development
through historic decisions.
My dear countrymen, every month, we come across stories in the News that touch our hearts.
They remind us how every Indian is earnestly ready to help one another, to the best extent
possible, according to one’s capacity.
I got an opportunity to read one such inspiring story from Arunachal Pradesh on the media.
Mirem village of Siang district attempted a unique feat, that has become an inspiration for
India. Most residents of this village stay elsewhere working for their livelihood. During the
Corona pandemic, they were returning to the village. The villagers, on noticing that, decided
to make arrangements for their quarantine, outside the village, in advance. They came
together and erected 14 temporary huts at a short distance from the village, deciding that
when those people would reach the village, they would first be quarantined for a few days in
these huts. The huts were equipped with toilets, water, and electricity, including essential
items for daily needs. It is not surprising that this awareness and collective effort on the part
of village folk of Mirem attracted widespread attention and accolades.
Friends, it is said in our scriptures -
Swabhavam: na Jahati eva, sadhuh: aapadratopi san l
Karpoor: Pawak saprishta: Saurabham labhteetrama ||
Which means, just like camphor does not abandon its fragrance even while burning in fire,
the virtuous do not forsake their qualities or their true nature while facing a disaster. Today,
the labour force of our country, our worker brethren are an embodiment of this mantra. You
can witness for yourself - these days there are so many stories of our migrant workers who
have become a source of inspiriation for the entire country. In U.P. the migrant workers who
returned to the village of Barabanki took an initiative to return the Kalyani River to its
pristine, natural form. Upon witnessing this resolve to salvage the river, the farmers and other
people from nearby areas also got enthused. After returning to their respective villages, whilst
spending their mandatory time in isolation or quarantine centres, the manner in which our
worker brethren have employed their skills to transform the conditions around them is
amazing! But, friends, there are many such stories from lakhs of villages in our country,
which still have not reached us.
As is the nature of our country, I firmly believe, friends that many such incidents must have
occurred in your village or in your vicinity. If such an incident has come to your attention,
you must write an account of such an inspiring event to me. In this time of calamity, these
positive events, these stirring stories will inspire the others.
My dear countrymen, the corona virus has definitely changed the way we live. I was reading
a very interesting article in the Financial Times published from London. It was written that,
during the Corona pandemic, the demand for spices including ginger, turmeric and other
spices has increased not only in Asia but also in America. The entire world is focused on
increasing their immunity at this time, and these immunity enhancing ingredients are linked
with our country. We should be able to communicate about their speciality in such easy and
simple language to the people of the world, that they can understand it easily and we can
make our own contribution towards making a healthier planet.
My dear countrymen, if there would not have been a crisis like the Corona pandemic we
mightn’t have pondered questions like-, What is life? Why there is life? How is our life?
These are points we may have not thought of! This is the very reason why many people have
been living under mental stress. And, on the other hand, people also shared with me how,
during lockdown, they have re-discovered the small facets of happiness in our lives. Many
people have sent me their experiences of playing traditional in-door games and revelling with
the entire family.
Friends, our country has a very rich heritage of traditional sports. For example, you may have
heard the name of a game called “Pachisi”. This game is played as "Pallanguli" in Tamil
Nadu, is called "Ali Guli Mane" in Karnataka and is known as "VamanGuntlu" in Andhra
Pradesh. It is a type of game employing strategy in which a board is used with many pits, in
which the players have to catch hold of the pellet or seed. It is said that this game has spread
from South India to Southeast Asia and then to the rest of the world.
Friends, today every child knows about the game of snakes and ladders. But, do you know
that this is also another traditional Indian game, called “Moksha Patam” or “Parampadam”.
We also have another traditional game in our country called “Gutta.” This game is popular
with elders and the children alike and involves simply getting hold of five small stones of the
same size and Behold! - you are ready to play Gutta! You’ve to throw one stone into the air
and while that stone is in the air, you have to grab the remaining stones on the ground.
Usually there isn’t a need of any major contraptions in the indoor games prevalent in our
country. Someone just brings along a chalk or a stone, draws a few lines with it on the ground
and a game is ready to be played! In games requiring a dice, improvisation is made with
cowrie shells or tamarind seeds.
Friends, I do know that today while I’m narrating about these games many must have
returned to their childhood! Many of you must have got nostalgic about your childhood days.
I reiterate - why have you forgotten those days? Why have you forgotten those games? My
request to the grandparents and the elders of the house, if you do not handover these games to
the new generation, then who shall do it? Now that it has come to studying online, in order to
strike a balance and also to get rid of online gaming we must do so for the sake of our
children. Herein also lies a novel and a strong opportunity for our start-ups and even for our
younger generation.
Let us present the traditional Indoor Games of India in a new and attractive avatar. Those
mobilizing the resources pertaining to these games, the suppliers and start-ups associated
with these traditional indoor games will become very popular, and, we have to remember
that, our Indian sports are also local, and we have already pledged to be vocal for local. And,
my little friends, to the children of every household, and my young friends, today, I am
making a special request. Children, will you accept my request? See, I appeal that you must
do one thing that I am saying - whenever you have a little time on your hands, ask your
parents to use the mobile and record the interview of your Dada-Dadi, Nana-Nani or
whosoever elder in the house! You would have seen journalists conducting interviews on TV,
you also do a similar kind of interview and record it on the mobile! And what will be the
questions you would be asking them? Let me give you some suggestions.
You must ask them about their lifestyle as children, what sports they played, sometimes if
they went to the theatre? Or went to the cinema? Sometimes if they had gone to their
maternal uncle's house during holidays? Or visit a field or a barn? How they celebrated the
festivals? There are many a topics upon which you can ask questions. They too will like
reminiscing about life 40 to 50 years or say 60 years ago and it will give them a lot of joy!
And for you too it would be great fun to learn about India 40-50 years ago, how the area was
where you presently live? How were the nearby precincts and what the ways and customs of
the people then were? You will get to learn and know about these things quite easily. You
will find for yourself that it will be fun and it can become a good video album, a very
invaluable treasure for the family!
Friends, it is true that an autobiography or biography is a very useful tool to get closer to the
veracity of history. You too while chatting with your elders will be able to understand about
their times, their childhood and the facets of their youth. This is an excellent opportunity that
the elders will get to narrate about their childhood and about their period to the children of
their home.
Friends, Monsoon has now reached large parts of the country and meteorologists are very
enthusiastic about the rains and are full of hope. If the rains are bountiful, our farmers will
reap a bumper harvest and the environment will also be green. In the rainy season, nature also
rejuvenates itself. As human beings exploit natural resources, nature in a way, during rains,
replenishes and restocks them. But, this refilling is possible only if we support our mother
earth and carry out our responsibilities. A little effort by us helps nature and environment
quite significantly. Many of our countrymen are putting extraordinary efforts in this
endeavour.
In Mandavali, Karnataka there is an 80-85 year old elder Kamegowda. Kamegowda ji is an
ordinary farmer, albeit possessing an extraordinary personality. He has achieved a personal
feat that will leave anyone awestruck! Kamegowda ji, aged 80-85 takes out his animals for
grazing but at the same time he has taken it upon himself to build new ponds in his area. He
wants to overcome the problem of water scarcity in his area; therefore, in the work of water
conservation, he is engaged in the work of constructing small ponds. You will be surprised
that an octagenerarian like Kamegowda ji, till now, has dug 16 ponds, through his hard work
and the sweat of his brow. It is possible that the ponds he has constructed may not be very big
but then his efforts are huge. Today, the entire area has got a new lease of life on account of
these ponds
Friends, Vadodara in Gujarat is also an inspirational example. Here, the district
administration and the local residents together organized an interesting campaign. Due to this
campaign, today rain water harvesting has been initiated in one thousand schools of
Vadodara. Consequently, it is estimated that, on an average about 100 million litres of water
is being conserved annually.
Friends, during this rainy season we should also take the initiative to think and do something
similar to protect nature and to protect the environment. Just like at many places, preparations
would have begun for Ganesh Chaturthi. Can we try this time to make eco-friendly Ganesh
statues and worship only them? Can we forego the worship of such idols, which, after being
immersed in rivers or ponds, become a hazard for the water and the living organisms in it? I
firmly believe that you will respond to my call. Amidst this, we should be on guard from
various ailments that surface with Monsoon. During the corona pandemic, we have to protect
ourselves from these diseases also. Keep using Ayurvedic medicines, herbal decoction and
hot water to stay healthy.
My dear countrymen, today on the 28th of June, India is paying homage to one of her former
Prime Ministers, who led the country through a critical phase. This day marks the
commencement of the birth centenary year of our former Prime Minister Shri PV Narasimha
Rao ji. When we talk about Shri PV Narasimha Rao ji, naturally, his image that emerges
before us is that of a political leader, but it is also true that he was a polyglot! He used to
speak many Indian and foreign languages. He was rooted in Indian values; and had
knowledge of western literature and science as well.
He was one of the most experienced leaders of India. But, there is another aspect of his life
which is remarkable that we should know. Friends, Narasimha Rao ji had joined the freedom
movement in his teens and when the Nizam of Hyderabad refused permission to sing Vande
Mataram, he took an active part in the movement against the Nizam and at that time, he was
only 17 years old. From a young age, Shriman Narasimha Rao was ever onward in raising his
voice against injustice. He left no stone unturned to raise his voice. Narasimha Rao ji also
understood history very well. His rise from a very simple background, his emphasis on
education, his eagerness to learn, and, along with all these qualities, his leadership ability are
all memorable. I urge you - in the birth centenary year of Narasimha Rao ji, let all of us, try
to know as much as possible about his life and thoughts. I once again pay my tributes to him.
My dear countrymen, in this ‘ Mann Ki Baat’, many topics were discussed. Next time we
meet, some more new topics will be touched upon. You must keep on sending your messages
and innovative ideas to me. We shall all move forward together, and the days to come will be
even more positive, as I said in the beginning, we will not only do better in this year i.e. 2020,
but we will move forward and the country will touch new heights. I am confident that 2020
will give a new direction to India in this decade. With this belief, you too should march
forward, stay healthy and stay positive. With these good wishes, I thank you very much.
Namaskar
