INTRODUCTION

Nature of business of the industry

My 15 days training was carried out at CIBI KRISHNA TEXTAILS (p) Ltd., it is
an well known textile company whose main line of products is production of
cotton thread which can be used to make shirts, pants, trousers, etc… They are

4
5

mainly focused on export. They use the machine rieter BT-923 open end this
machine helps them to extract cotton balls into cotton thread.

Working process

The company worke on shift bases. They start their production at morning
around the 8:00am in the morning and finish their morning shift at 1:30PM for
lunch break which is 30 minutes and they will start their afternoon shift at 2:00pm
this will continue until 6:00pm and they will have a tea break and the day shift
people will be done. Then the night shifts starts around 6:30 and this will continue
untill morning 6:00 am with some breaks in the middle. This company has got 10
rieter machine and per machine can provide 1200 cotton thread bundles per
hour, they don’t operate all the machine at the same time, only 5 machines will
be operated for every shifts they will choose the machines alternatively so that
will reduce the work pressure of the machines. 10 workers are employed to
operate the machines.

EMPLOYEES WORK

Employers doesn’t have a though task in handling the machines they

will bring in the raw materials (cotton balls) and they will connect it to the
machines according to the instructions given and each machines have 80 slots
on them through which threads can be manufactured and they have to insert the
cotton balls and wait for the thread produced to come and they have to collect
the bundle and pack the cotton bundle in ready to export.

PACKING

After the process of converting raw materials into finished product ( cotton
balls - cotton threads ) they will pack 15 bundles in per sack ways and they will
move that packages to their store room where they will transport their products
through trucks and lorry.

5
6

TRANSPORT

The company produce around 5000-10000 bundles per day and

which could end upon 100-200 sacks. They will just transport all their products
daily, every day production will be exported on that day itself. They have around
50 lorries through which they keep their products moving and also they bring in
their raw materials everyday.

ADVANTAGES

This line of manufacturing companies always have the advantage on

their products because they have to keep exporting the pro products around the
world which will require more production which is good for their businesss and
this company also have their own means of transport, raw materials and all their
necessary needs with them and this helps them to cut down their expenses.

DIS- ADVANTAGES

The products they are producing can be easily destroyed, they also
have the dis advantage of finding resources and clients which will but the
business out. The mills are competitive at the global level and capable of using
all the fibres produced. But the weaving, knitting and processing units cannot use
much of the high quality yarn that is produced in the country. The cost of
production could be expensive, natural fibre wear down faster, holds moisture,
prone to shrink.

VISION
● To create customers satisfaction and sufficient cotton
● To provide quality service and products

MISSION

● QUALITY
● SERVICE
● CONSISTENT

PRODUCT LINE:

Their main product is cotton thread but they also have their own textile shops
where they sell all kind of fashionable wears for men, women, kids. They are
mainly focused on threads but they had the idea of setting up a textile shop and
they have been successful.

PRODUCT TYPE :

An assortment of different colored yarns.

Yarn is a long continuous length of interlocked fibres, suitable for use in
the production of textiles, sewing, crocheting, knitting, weaving,
embroidery, or ropemaking.Thread is a type of yarn intended for sewing by
hand or machine. Modern manufactured sewing threads may be finished
with wax or other lubricants to withstand the stresses involved in sewing.
Embroidery threads are yarns specifically designed for needlework.

Yarn can be made from a number of natural or synthetic fibers. Many types
of yarn are made differently though. There are two main types of yarn: spun
and filament.

Fibers

Cotton being slubbed

The most common plant fiber is cotton, which is typically spun into fine
yarn for mechanical weaving or knitting into cloth.

Cotton and Polyester are the most commonly spun fibers in the world.
Cotton is grown throughout the world. After harvesting it is ginned and
prepared for yarn spinning. Polyester is extruded from polymers derived
from natural gas and oil. Synthetic fibers are generally extruded in
continuous strands of gel-state materials. These strands are drawn
(stretched), annealed (hardened), and cured to obtain properties desirable
for later processing.

Synthetic fibers come in three basic forms: staple, tow, and filament. Staple
is cut fibers, generally sold in lengths up to 120 mm. Tow is a continuous
"rope" of fibers consisting of many filaments loosely joined side-to-side.
Filament is a continuous strand consisting of anything from 1 filament to
many. Synthetic fiber is most often measured in a weight per linear
measurement basis, along with cut length. Denier and Dtex are the most
common weight to length measures. Cut-length only applies to staple fiber

MACHINE USED:

RIETER bt 923 open-end

Machines from Rieter are well-known for economical production, flexibility

in use and high reliability. The semi-automated rotor spinning machine BT
923 produces high quality rotor yarns with a top price-performance ratio.
The BT 923 is the most productive semi-automated machine, the longest
machine, extremely operator friendly and very
flexible and produces an unsurpassed yarn quality thanks to the integrated
AMIspin® and Qtop® piecing systems.

8
9

The completely new machine concept focuses on three areas of innovation:

· solutions for increased productivity
· ergonomic and operator-friendly design
· systems for improving and monitoring yarn quality

BT 923 ECONOMICAL PRODUCTION:

With 400 spinning positions per machine and rotor speeds up to 110 000
rpm, the productivity of the BT 923 has significantly increased. The
improved winding system allows delivery speeds up to 200 m/min. The
increased pitch of 230 mm enables the use of cans up to 18 ̋.230 mm
enables the use of cans up to 18 ̋.

FLEXIBLE IN USE:

The wide yarn count range from Ne 2 - 40 allows a flexible reaction to

market demands. Flexible production is guaranteed with two separate
drives and belts on each side of the machine. Easy setting of the external
suction and the automatic vacuum levelling AUTOvac for stable spinning
conditions ease the technological settings for new materials. The
integrated slub yarn device for structured rotor yarns is available as an
option

Working hours during COVID-19:

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has touched all aspects of

society including how we work. Emergency responders, health care
workers, and others providing essential services to the community have
been especially stretched thin, working longer hours than usual, working
more shifts or even over-night, and leaving less time to sleep and recharge.

9
10

The main problem in operating industry during Covid-19 was to keep the
employees safe and maintain their health stable both physically and
mentally. So, this was was the major problem there and the the HR team
came up with some solutions like some basic rules of Covid-19, employees
were given Masks, gloves and they were sanitised everyday and asked to
maintain social distance and they were checked on the temperature. This
COVID brought up new challenges in maintain manpower. The managers
were informed to work with minimum number of people this oblivious
brought up the number of SHIFTS high before COVID there was only four
shifts but now inorder to maintain the health the industry had to increase
the shifts to make sure every employee works for the day and this also
helped them to control their mental stage. But that didn’t end their problem
leaders and managers find they have new and unexpected stresses to
contend with as they help their teams remain more productive, while also
helping them cope with additional anxiety due to the pandemic. Managers
are navigating a loss of control over the work they’re overseeing, loss of
productivity as meeting-based approaches to keep everyone connected are
inadvertently undermining workflow, and loss of creativity as leaders
struggle to move teams from crisis-response to creative-response.
Everyday the leaders had to come up with new ideas to make the work
place less stressful in order to make the place more productive.

Employees at this level are processing work and being productive. Remote
working tasks place a higher burden on employees. The managers tries to
reduce the problems by using various methods of operation like Meetings,
collaborative working, sharing materials, structuring time — all of these
tasks need to adapt. To date, these tasks have been driven by experiments
by individuals or teams. Employers now need to codify the tasks they want
to carry-forward in their new ways of working.

Even now, the managers are finding it hard to keep the employees on track
to make them productive. Here, this is the part where I learned the
importance of mangers and the quality of an leader this where I came to
understand the problems and the amount of critical thinking takes place it
is very hard keep the people together and making them to be productive
during this kind of hard times.

PRODUCTION:

Typically, mills select bale mixes with the properties needed

to produce yarn for a specific end-use. Processing begins when the bales
to be mixed are brought to the opening room, where bagging and ties are
removed. Layers of cotton are removed from the bales by hand and placed
in feeders equipped with conveyors studded with spiked teeth, or entire

13
14

bales are placed on platforms which move them back and forth under or
over a plucking mechanism. The aim is to begin the sequential production
process by converting the compacted layers of baled cotton into small,
light, fluffy tufts that will facilitate the removal of foreign matter. This initial
process is referred to as “opening”. Since bales arrive at the mill in various
degrees of density, it is common for bale ties to be cut approximately 24
hours before the bales are to be processed, in order to allow them to
“bloom”. This enhances opening and helps regulate the feeding rate. The
cleaning machines in mills perform the functions of opening and first-level
cleaning.

Carding and combing

The card is the most important machine in the yarn manufacturing process.
It performs second- and final-level cleaning functions in an overwhelming
majority of cotton textile mills. The card is composed of a system of three
wire-covered cylinders and a series of flat, wire-covered bars that
successively work small clumps and tufts of fibres into a high degree of
separation or openness, remove a very high percentage of trash

Combing provides more extensive cleaning than is provided by the card.

The purpose of combing is to remove short fibres, neps and trash so that
the resulting sliver is very clean and lustrous. The comber is a complicated
machine composed of grooved feed rolls and a cylinder that is partially
covered with needles to comb out short fibres.

Waste handling:

In modern textile mills where control of dust is important, the

handling of waste is given greater emphase.

central vacuum systems automatically return waste from

opening, picking, carding, drawing and roving. The central vacuum system

14
15

is used for cleaning of machinery, automatically collecting waste from

under machinery such as fly and motes from carding, and for returning
unusable floor sweeps and wastes from filter condensers.

PURCHASE:

The primary objective of purchase department is to obtain the right

materials, in the right quality, at right time and price. As purchasing
department and raw materials stores are operational departments, they are
responsible to the operations manager, and in management of finished
goods, warehouse is responsible to the marketing department.

The process of buying materials involves lots of operations and they have
a separate team with their set of objectives they look into before buying it
for some suppliers and also they gave me the information about their
steps. So, I have gained some knowledge about the following factors

Information:
It provides information to all concerned regarding new products, materials
and service.

Suppliers:

The approval of a product and its price is normally given by the department
for whom the product is intended, but this department must ensure that the
supplier is stable and reliable.

Prices:

While the price, quality and quantity of materials are usually specified by
the operations department, the purchase must be made at the most

15
16

advantageous terms for the company. Other terms and conditions such as
freight costs, insurance, discounts, credit terms, etc. are also negotiated
before the order is placed.

Progressing:

This is concerned with ensuring that the ordered materials arrive at the
correct time, and the makes sure that the production plan can be executed
without any hold – ups due to late or non – delivery of raw materials.

Verification:

A well managed business, checks the prices, quantities, colors etc. of

delivered materials as specified in the purchase orders.

Speculative Buying:

When market conditions are particularly favorable, this department

recommends ordering materials such as fusibles, linings and sewing
threads which are not required foe immediate use assuming scarcity of
these materials or hike in prices.

Store Keeping:

The staff here are responsible for receiving, storage and issuing of
materials. Now that everything is made digital, this process is now
considered easy to handle

16
17

Stock Management:

The management of the raw materials and technical stores is expected to

maintain and provide accurate and up –to date information on the stock
levels of all items carried. This information is essential for the purchase
department to study the frequency and type of order placed with suppliers.

Purchase Order:

This is the means by which the company places orders with suppliers and
it is an important contractual document which binds the company to
considerable expenditure. It is therefore, most important that the purchase
order is unambiguous.

They go through all these factors before making a decision on buying

this came to my understanding that it takes great analysis on purchase of
good or raw materials.

Financial :

The contributions of finance department to the industry and how

these contributions positively affect organisational performance will help in
the way of producing the important factor of any organisation “PROFIT”.
The finance is handled by the financial manager and his team.

First, the book keeper record the day-day recording, analysis and
interpretation of a company’s financial transactions. This will include the
tracking of all expenses (purchases, payments etc.) and sales of finished
products.

17
18

Now the important factor and challenging factor of an financial manager

was to maintain their cash flow and my industry ensure that there are
enough funds available to meet the day-to-day running of the company.
And I also collected the information about their budget and forecasting and
the gave me some information . The finance department works with
managers to prepare the company’s budgets and forecasts and also gave
feedback with regards to the financial standing of the company. This
information can be used to fulfil the cash needs of each department, plan
company staffing levels, plan asset purchase and expansions at minimum
cost before they become necessary. The finance department also use past
records from respective departments to make better budget and forecast
over long-term and short-term time horizons. This could help them to cut
their loss rate and improve profit. The other important information I
requested to them was about the “TAX”. The finance department works
with managers to prepare the company’s budgets and forecasts and also
give feedback with regards to the financial standing of the company. This
information can be used to fulfil the cash needs of each department, plan
company staffing levels, plan asset purchase and expansions at minimum
cost before they become necessary. The finance department can also use
past records from respective departments to make better budget and
forecast over long-term and short-term time horizons.

They also have the duty of paying their employer’s salary and they
consider some factors like Days of absence and any other property
damages and stuffs like that and they pay their employees.

The financial manager also helped the manger to make the key strategic
decisions by providing them with the information necessary to make
strategic decisions such as which markets or projects to pursue, the
payback periods for large capital purchases, decision on what should be
given out or brought back into the industry , the decision on how to
allocate funds .

18
19

Marketing

Marketing manager will have a set of members who will work on get
information about their market opportunities and come up with a plan to get into
the market

HUMAN RESOURCE

HR manager plays a major role in allotting works for the workers

and he is the person who gives GO to the plan of other department
QUALITY CONTROL

Quality control plays the major role in this company. The

quality control officer checks the quality of the product and he will eliminate all the
mistake pieces and process only the good and finished products

CONCLUSION

The past 15 days of my internship have been very instructive

for me. I gained lot of experience, especially in the story telling. A lot of the tasks
and activities that I have worked on during my training are familiar with what I
learned for my master. This gave me the idea to find out which areas I want to
work in after my education. Before my training my ideas did not match the
experience have gained during my training. There is a big difference between
books and actual which I understood during my training. This training also
helped me to gain my confidence and also it helped me to improve my skills too.
Now I take this opportunity to thank my institution PSG COLLEGE OF ARTS
AND SCIENCE and my department BBA RETAIL MANAGEMENT for giving
me this opportunity. If not I would have not gained any kind of experience like this
and I would also thank my department staffs Dr.
SWARNALATHA,DR.CHITRA,DR.KARTHIKEYAN,DR.JOSEPHINELATHA,DR.
MENAK.

19
20

for supporting me and helping me to go through this training without any problem
and helping me to gain this knowledge. At last, I sincerely thank you all for giving
this opportunity and I am sure that I have gained the knowledge and experience
which will help me to move forward with high level confidence.
