Physical Resources in education

Educational resources include all human, material, nonmaterial audio-visual school
environment and community materials available in an instructional environment to assist school
administration and simplify the teaching learning process. Education resources covers all those
materials human and nonhuman, drawn or photographed, built manually or electronically
operated, books and every one kinds of related materials used in teaching and learning process.
Physical Resource Management:

These are the tangible resources which will easily be seen and observed in any institution.
The physical resources include the structure, the machines, raw materials, vehicles, and other
tools, which may facilitate organizations activities and processes. The physical resources might
not be the identical all told organization. In educational system, the physical resources would
come with the classrooms/lecture rooms, staff offices, vehicles, health centers, library,
laboratory, and so on, which directly or indirectly contribute to the achievement of goals.
Physical Resources are the Equipment, Materials, Supplies, Facilities, and Infrastructure
that are utilized by your project, or become a component of your project deliverable. Physical
Resources are different from the Human Resource.

Importance of Physical Resources in Educational System:

The role a well-equipped school environment play within the educational system can't

be over emphasized. A number of the importance of physical resources (school
facilities), like buildings, ventilated and spacious classrooms, furniture, instructional materials,
electricity, toilet facilities, playing facilities, laboratories, libraries, aesthetics etc.
2

 It creates conducive environment for teaching and learning.

 It helps the learners to develop skills through extra-curricular activities.
 It motivates the school teachers within the execution of their duties.
 It helps within the retention of teachers through friendly teaching environment and good
allowances.
 It helps to cut back vices, truancy and drop-outs among learners.
 It gives room for researchers to hold out research.
 It enhances the activities of teaching and learning.
 It makes room for continuity in education.
 It helps to scale back the fear of insecurity within the school environment.
 It gives job satisfaction to teachers.
 It helps within the actualization of educational goals through learner’s and teachers’ high
performance.

Physical Resources at school:

We can clearly say that the physical resources at school are of great importance.
it's necessary for each school to possess the below lists of physical resources at school.
Site of land:

To construct the school building is that the first and foremost question that

naturally involves mind of the organizers. The place of the school and therefore the plot of land
are of primary consideration where the building is to be raised. A school building cannot and
may not be constructed in an exceedingly vacant plot of land available elsewhere. Instead, the
organizers must consider a perfect site or physical environment suitable for the
development of the school building. The site of the land must satisfy the subsequent desirable
conditions.

1. The location of the school should be far from the world where it's thickly populated. It should

preferably have a peaceful and natural environment ideal for teaching-learning activity.
2. The place should be high and dry and capable of maintaining the physical health and hygiene
of the scholars.
3. There should be easy communication and yet the place of the land shouldn't be located by the
3

side of the most road.

4. The world should be off from the disturbing factors just like the market place, cinema hall, and
also the factories or industries.
5. The place should have the natural surrounding with small hill, open land, and therefore
the park that will provides a pleasant feeling to anybody.
6. It shouldn't be off from the hospital and other welfare centers.
7. The place of the school should be at an inexpensive distance from home. School should be
within one kilometer and middle school within two kilometers off from home.
8. The land of school should be open one, in order that there could also be provision for
expansion of faculty building and construction of hostel and playground within the future.
School Building:

A School building is that the learning center of an academic institution. A sound

mind within the sound body so is that the case with an honest education in a very good school
bending. As such, it should be design and constructed in a way that will really be described as a
temple of learning because school signifies dignity, honor, and therefore the sense of pride of
each individual belonging to the school. Further, school building can create the
mandatory motivation in mind of the scholars for his or her learning and doing.

A poor and unimpressive school building incorporates a negative effect on the mind

of the school people. Since school may be a center for community development so it should
be ready to serve the community needs of the people. Keeping seeable with the above aims, the
school building must observe the subsequent points:

1. While constructing the school building, we must check out the assorted academic needs and

interests of the teachers and also the students.
2. Its outward appearance should be capable of developing a way of beauty, dignity, and gravity
of learning in anybody’s mind.
3. The pattern of the school building should be in I, E, U, H, L, or T pattern. But E and T
pattern is that the most convenient thanks to construct a school building.
4. A faculty shouldn't be multi-storey building. It should be preferably one or two-storey
building to form it convenient for all.
5. While constructing the building, we must always make sure that sufficient light, heat, and air
4

are available in each and each room.

6. School buildings should provide an equal facility for teaching different subjects. For this
purpose, there should differ departmental rooms.
7. The Principal’s office room should be centrally located so as to create his administration and
supervision more convenient.
8. Unit wise construction of rooms should be made for the office room, Principal’s office room,
teachers’ room, student room, research lab, library, and manual workshop by making easy
communication of them.
9. There should be adequate facility for sanitation and provide of drink visible of keeping health
and hygiene.
10. There should be a provision for future expansion of the building visible of the growing
demand for education.

With the increasing need and performance of education, a faculty building must provide a

spread of rooms so as to facilitate learning and teaching. They include art and craft room, music
room, store and provide room, museum, auditorium, and cafeteria. These rooms aren't absolutely
essential, but after they are available, they are doing help and improves teaching.
Classroom:
In the school building, the classroom is sort of a workshop for the student’s future.
“Destiny of the state is formed in its classroom,”. The classroom acts as an experimental
laboratory for learning and teaching. So, the importance of the classroom for the efficiency of
education is definitely understandable. A contemporary classroom should be equipped so as to
serve the growing need for education. It should be furnished in an exceedingly way that it
should create genuine curiosity, interest, and motive of the learner. Visible of this fact, we
must consider the subsequent points while constructing a classroom:

1. The classroom should be ready to accommodate 50 students. It should be open in order

that the teacher may move about easily to each student.

2. While constructing benches and desks, we must always consider the peak of the scholars and

their seating conveniences.

3. So as to encourage self-learning through self-activity, we should always ensure a single-desk

and bench.
5

4. The dimensions of the space shouldn't be too long. It should be square or rectangular in

size so every student can see and listen to the teacher conveniently.

5. There should be a platform and a table placed before of the classroom. Besides, there should
be a blackboard with big in size at the front wall for the effective use of the teacher.

6. In every classroom, there should be a shelf, almirah, cupboard, etc. In order that the teacher
can keep necessary teaching aids and materials.

7. There should be a provision permanently light, fan, and ventilation within the classroom. We

should always make sure that light doesn't make a reflection on the blackboard to cause
inconveniences.
8. Further, we must make sure that the rooms should be free from noise and sound that comes
from the neighboring classes. Because it couldn't disturb the classroom teaching.

Science Laboratory:

In order to show the science education impressively, a well-equipped laboratory could be

a must. The laboratory is of great help so as to clear the difficult concept of science in mind of
various varieties of students. It facilitates learning by doing or self-learning through self-activity.
Further, from the purpose of view of the modem method of teaching, the workplace may
be a great asset and a physical resource of the varsity. Nowadays, every subject has become
science-based. That the need for a laboratory at school is extremely obvious. For a perfect lab the
subsequent points have to be considered:

1. The work should be constructed at a selected side of the school building. It mustn't be located

in between the 2 theoretical class-rooms.

2. There should be proper seating arrangements for the scholars inside the laboratory in order
that the teacher may give necessary instruction to them on their work.

3. There should be a daily supply of gas, water, and electricity to the space.

4. Further, there should be a rendezvous of educational technology just like the projectors,

screens, films, and slides with electrical outfits to confirm the visual effect of education.
6

5. There should be a table to perform laboratory work with running water taps and gas lines with
burner and therefore the basins.

6. There should be a briefing for almirah, shelf, etc. To stay the costly apparatus, models, and
chemicals safely inside the laboratory.

7. Further, there should be a laboratory assistant to stay a record of the stock of materials and to
require proper care of them.

8. The topic teacher should be answerable of the laboratory.

Library:
Other physical resources at school are the library. The Library of a school is
also described as a silent teacher for the scholars. Modern education has not only become child-
centered but library centered too. Within the method of self-learning, the library plays a big role
for the scholars. Students may head to the library, collect necessary information, make analysis,
and verify their knowledge acquired.

A creative library may act as a strong motivating force for higher studies and research. It
creates an instinctive tendency to understand and develops reading habit within the students.
Keeping in sight of the wants of the library, one should remember the subsequent points
while fixing a library:

1. If possible, library should be constructed at a separate building within the school campus.

2. The library should be large and therefore the room must be attached to the library.
3. The books within the library should be arranged during a systematic and subject wise.
4. Admission to the library should be restricted, well regulated, and disciplined. There should be
complete silence to form it enjoyable in reading for everyone.

5. Together with the textbooks and reference books, the library should collect current journals,
magazines, newspapers and display them systematically for the scholars.

6. The arrival of recent books should be displayed on the library bulletin board so the teachers

and students will know its new arrival

7. The library and also the room should display pictures of famous writers and scientists on the
convenient places of the walls to form true more impressive.
7

8. So as to form interest within the students, the librarian should organize book-exhibition at

school premises from time to time.

Museum:

A full-fledged school should have a faculty museum additionally to the library. A

museum could be a place where the scholars use to find out to determine things for
themselves instead of reading them in books or hearing them within the classroom. Seeing is
believing. As such, it's a special visual effect of education on anybody. So, effective organization
and management of a faculty museum are of great educational importance to this point because
the visual effect of learning is concerned. During this regard, while constructing a museum, the
subsequent steps are necessary:

1. School museums should be constructed as regards to the library room.

2. It should be divided into various sections as art and craft, science, history, social studies,
geography, photography, and student collection.

3. The objects collected within the museum should be methodically sorted out and classified for
his or her exhibition.

4. The exhibits should be clean and in safe custody free from dust.

5. The materials collected by the scholars should be exhibited at a particular corner of the area.

6. A visitor’s book should be maintained and therefore the visitors should be asked to

provide their impression on the exhibits.

7. There should be a provision to convey away prizes to the exhibits of student’s materials.

8. There should be a managing committee of the museum, with teachers and students as its
members

Problems related to Resources Availability and Utilization in

class Administration.

Shortage of Funds:

This could account for the poor performance of administrators of

educational institutions. The least bit levels of institution. Funds have always been inadequate
and consequently there has been gap between the expected level and also the actual attainment.
Funds are necessary for the acquisition, securing and maintenance of other resources once the
availability is insufficient, production suffers. During this logic, government and
personal individuals should prioritize education sector and its administration, more
especially within the area of finance soon be able to meet their expenses.

Political Issues:

Politicians have stolen resources allocated to education and thus their

priorities weren't directed towards the system. This had culminated in inefficiency within
the system. The standard and quantity of resources allocation to educational system is
decided by the priority that mandatory political leaders have towards the system.

Misuse of the school Facilities:

School personnel could misuse the physical and material facilities within the school
either intentionally, ignorantly or because of lack of technical knowhow. There could even
be neglect and overuse of school facilities thanks to improper planning.

Poor Management:

Some Administrators of institutions don't seem to be ignored from mismanagement acts

and corrupt attitude as regards funds allocated to their institutions. The tendency and urge to
become wealthy often result in such practices. Stealing of school facilities, lack of maintenance
and proper inventory are all managerial problems related to the provision and utilization of
resources.

Ineffective school leadership:

9

Some school administrators lack the capacity to command absolute leadership

responsiveness from their subordinates thanks to inexperience. Such leader permits
subordinates to try and do what they choose thereby by encouraging unprofessional
conducts within the school. The leadership style doesn't emphasize checks and discipline in and
of itself nobody is held chargeable for damage of school properties.

Practical Solution to the Identified Problems:

 A School administrator should be encouraged to develop method of practical resource

management to extend the efficiency within the use of accessible resources.
 In-service training and refreshing courses should be organized on regular basis for
school’s administrators and personnel all told the institutions.
 The government should increase the standard and quantity of resources (human, financial
and material) allocated to school.
 Regular supervision will enhance early detection of problem of any sort concerning the
available resources and thus prevent breakdown of facilities. It'll also enable proper
utilization and maintenance of the facilities.
 Modern facilities should replace the old ones and personnel should incline enough
training in their utilization. This can make them simpler and efficient within the discharge
of their duties.
