1.

Genus Staphylococcus (Gram stain)

- Gramm positive
- Appear round
- Grape like clusters of cells

2. Genus Streptococcus (Gram stain)

- Gramm positive
- Cocci arranged, in pairs of chain
- Shorter and longer chains
- Spherical or oval shape

3. S.pneumoniae (Gram stain)

- Cocci bacteria, Gram positive,

- Alpha hemolytic
- Lancet shaped diplococcic
- Adjacent side are blunt
- While the distal side (ends) are pointed
- Arranged two by two in capsule forms (in
human body)
- Aerobic member of genus streprococcus
- Inhabitant of the upper respiratory tract
- No animal reservoir, infection by direct
contact
5. N.gonorrhoeae (Loeffler's methylene blue
stain)

- Genus Neisseria
- Gram Negative
- Are diplococci (in form of two joined cells)
- Coffee beans like, arranged in pairs
- Not motile (don’t move, don’t have flagella)
- Non spore forming
- Systemic infection (spread via the blood
stream )

6. Genus Bacillus (Gram stain)

Familyà Bacillaceae
- Grow aerobically or only anaerobically
- Gram Positive rods
- From oval, centrally located spores
- Non motile
- Mostly aerobes (Genus Bacillus)
- Bacillus anthacis – causing anthrax
- Bacillus cereus – causing gastroenteritis,
traumatic eye infection
7. Family Enterobacteriaceae (Gram stain)

- Largest family of Gram Negative rods

- Include Samonella, E coli, Klebsiella, Shigella
- Cause:bacteremias, UT infections, intestinal
infections
- Opportunistic pathogns: can only cause
diseases under certain conditins
- Primary oathogen: can cause disease in
anyone
- Non spore forming
8. L.bulgaricus (Gram or Neisser stain)

- Familyà Lactobacillaceae
- Genusà Lactobacillus
- Gram positive
- Rod shapa like
- Non motile
- Non spores forming

9. L.monocytogenes (Gram stain)
Genus Listeria

- Listeria species are facultative anaerobic,

- Non- spore forming
- Gram-positive rods that are uniform in
shape.
- Coccobacili, often arranged
- Facultative intracellular pathogen.
- Do not form spores and capsules.
- Motile at room temperature
10 M.tuberculosis (Ziehl-Neelsen stain)
Family Mycobacterium

- Acid fast stain: acid fast organism contain

large amount of lipid in cell wall (mycolic acid)
This acid resist gram staining.
- Slightly curved pleomorphic rods
- Non-motile
- Intracellular pathogen (intracellular growth in
alveolar macrophages), that is able to
establish lifelong infection.
- Grows best at temperatures of 37°C.
- Do not form spores and capsules.
Oblig - Obligate aerobes growing most successfully
in tissues with a high oxygen content, such as
the lungs.

11 C.diphtheriae (Gram or Neisser stain)

- Genus Corynebacterium
- Gram- positive, rod-shaped bacteria
- Their cell walls contain short-chain mycolic
acids. Inspite of this they are not acid-fast.
- C.diphtheriae is a nonmotile, noncapsulated,
club- shaped rod
- They are arranged in pairs and trios
- Facultative anaerobes.

12 H.influencae (Gram stain)

Familyà Pasteurellaceae
Genusà Haemophillus

- Sometimes pleomorphic, coccobacilli bacteria

- Is a Gram- negative, coccobacillary
- Facultatively anaerobic bacterium
- Do not have flagella.Non- motile.
- Do not form capsules.
- Forming capsules only in clinical speciments.

13 K.pneumoniae (Indian Ink stain)

FamilyàEnterobacteriaceae
Genusà Klebsiella

- Non-motile, Gram- negative, rod-shaped

bacteria with a prominent polysaccharide-
based capsule.
- Do not form spores.
- Typically occur as straight rods with rounded
or slightly pointed ends.
- Can be found singly, in pairs or in short
chains.
- Facultative anaerobes
