1. What are the best and the most useful inventions in the 20th and 21st centuries?
Many inventions have arisen during the 20th and 21st centuries. These
inventions have given their own purposes depending on what the inventors want to
achieve. Here are the personal choices of mine which represent the best and most
useful inventions during those times.
First on the list are the airplanes. We cannot deny the fact that transportation is
one of the essential needs of people. Land travel is very common and helpful but it is
time-consuming and going to the places that have the presence of body of saltwater is
very difficult. Although there are ships or boats there is still struggle travelling outside
the country. The birth of airplanes solves these challenges. Leaving the country and
entering other countries are more convenient and does not take so much time in order
to arrive in the desired places. It is not only applicable for international flight but also for
domestic flights that exploring one’s country is easier, as well as imports and exports
because of aircrafts and we are able to achieve globalization.
Next useful invention that is popular are gadgets such as cellphones, laptops,
tablets, computer and the like. It is evident especially in our situation today that these
gadgets play a vital role in education, work and day-to-day activities. Through these we
are able to connect to other people and not only by face-to-face interaction.
Communication is very important nowadays and with the help of the gadgets we are
able to achieve that communication.
If there are useful inventions of course there is an opposite of it which are the
worst invention of mankind. It may be useful at some point but I think it has a high
possibility of causing harmful effects not only to the environment but to the society.
Another worst invention is the dynamite which is used for fishing. Dynamite
fishing causes destruction to the aquatic ecosystem. Also, this invention might be
helpful for others because they are able to catch sufficient fish for their business but it is
selfish of them to harm the environment. It destroys the ecosystem of the living things
which is basically our source of food.
3. What kinds of things do inventors need to think about before they try to build
something? Why?
• Purpose. The reason why you are building something should be clear.
• Benefits. Having its purpose, it should benefit the society or the environment in
which will be useful and relevant.
• Effects. Keep in mind that in trying to build something you should consider its
effects to the society and environment. Bear in mind questions like: will it harm
the environment? Will it affect the lifestyle of the people? What might happen in
the long run if the invention will be successful?
• Process. Keep in mind that it will take a lot of time to have a successful invention.
Trust the process and everything will fall into place.
4. Can you name some inventions you are looking forward to?
• Robots
• Portals to travel
• Capsules that are used for medicine
• Hologram Technology
• Virtual Reality MMORPG
If I were given a chance to be a scientist, the invention that came into my mind
considering the situation that the whole world is facing is medicine or vaccine against
COVID-19. It may sound common and there are already existing vaccines against it but
I want to produce an effective medicine that will guarantee cure. Given the state of the
world, it is practical and beneficial to create not only for my country but for everyone.
Even though we are getting used to the new normal, we are still looking forward for the
world to heal and bring back our old way of living. It may take a lot of time and effort to
come up with the effective one without having negative or side effects but it will be an
honor to make a vaccine or medicine against COVID-19.
