Award Miles
The currency of the Flying Blue programme. Members can earn
Award Miles and then spend them on flights and other products and
services.

Level Miles
Level Miles count towards your membership level. The more Level
Miles you collect, the higher your membership level will become.
Level Miles can only be earned on flights with SkyTeam airline
partners.

Membership level
There are four different levels, which build up from one to the next.
New members start at the Ivory level. The next levels, from Silver
to Gold to Platinum, can only be reached by collecting enough Level
Miles.

Ivory
The entry level of the Flying Blue loyalty programme. When you
enrol, you become an Ivory member. From that moment, you can
start earning Level Miles on qualifying flights to upgrade to the next
membership level.
Silver
The second level of the Flying Blue loyalty programme. You reach
the Silver membership level when you have accumulated 25,000
Level Miles or have made 15 qualifying flights in one calendar year.
Please note: residents of France and Monaco need to accumulate
30,000 Level Miles or make 15 qualifying flights.

Gold
The third level of the Flying Blue loyalty programme. You reach the
Gold membership level when you have accumulated 40,000 Level
Miles or have made 30 qualifying flights in one calendar year.
Please note: residents of France and Monaco need to accumulate
60,000 Level Miles or make 30 qualifying flights.

Platinum
The fourth and highest level of the Flying Blue loyalty programme.
You reach the Platinum membership level when you have
accumulated 70,000 Level Miles or have made 60 qualifying flights
in one calendar year. Please note: residents of France and Monaco
need to accumulate 90,000 Level Miles or make 60 qualifying
flights.

Platinum for Life

Platinum membership is yours for life after you have had ten
consecutive years of Platinum membership. With Platinum for Life,
you can rely on travel privileges for the rest of your life, and enjoy
full Platinum benefits without ever needing to re-qualify again.

Miles balance
The Miles balance gives you an update of how many Level Miles and
Award Miles you have earned up to that day. This way you can see
how many Award Miles you can spend, and how far you are from
the next membership level.

Miles overview
Your Miles overview lists all your transactions over the last relevant
period. This way you can check if the Miles you are entitled to have
been credited to your account, or if the correct number of Miles has
been deducted.

Elite level
Silver, Gold and Platinum members are recognised as Elite
members. This name is also used by the partners of the SkyTeam
alliance and enables Elite members to enjoy special privileges
worldwide.
Elite bonus
All Silver, Gold and Platinum members earn extra Award Miles on
flights. Silver members earn 50% more Miles. Gold members earn
75% extra, and Platinum members are entitled on double the
number of Miles (100% extra).

Elite Plus
Elite Plus is the name that is used for Gold and Platinum members.
It is also used by the partners of the SkyTeam alliance and enables
Elite Plus members to be recognised worldwide as premium
travellers who are entitled to special privileges.

Qualifying flight
A qualifying or eligible flight is a flight for which you will earn Level
Miles. Most flights operated by SkyTeam partner airlines qualify for
earning Miles. Note: for residents of France and Monaco, domestic
flights in France do not count as qualifying flights.

SkyTeam partners
Aeroflot, Aerolineas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air France,
Alitalia, China Airlines, China Eastern, China Southern, Czech
Airlines, Delta, Kenya Airways, KLM, Korean Air, Middle East
Airlines, Saudia, Tarom, Vietnam Airlines and Xiamen Air

Annual level check

Every year, on 31 December, Flying Blue will check whether Elite
members have enough Level Miles or qualifying flights to maintain
their membership level. If not, the membership will be downgraded
by one level. After this check, the number of Level Miles and
qualifying flights will generally be reset to zero.

Carry over Level Miles

After having made at least one qualifying flight during the previous
calendar year, Silver, Gold and Platinum members can keep all the
Level Miles earned above their level threshold after the annual level
check. The Miles balance will not be reset to zero.

Participating airline partners

Participating airline partners are partners that also offer Flying Blue
as frequent flyer programme: Air Europa, Kenya Airways, Aircalin

other airlines. KLM has many code-sharing partnerships with other
airlines, both within and outside the SkyTeam partner network.

Long-haul flights
An intercontinental flight with a duration of more than 6 hours is
called a “long-haul” flight.

Airport & security taxes

Airport taxes must be paid on top of the ticket fare, either by credit
card or at the airport. The fee varies from airport to airport, and has
to be paid for every airport you will be departing from, arriving at,
or using for a connecting flight.

Carrier-imposed international surcharges

This fee is obligatory and varies depending on your destination. It is
used to cover a variety of costs that are beyond our control.

The regular award ticket is the standard ticket that can be booked
in exchange for Award Miles. The number of Miles needed depends
on the destination and booking class. This is also known as the
Classic Award.

you extra Miles during a given period, or in exchange for certain
products or services.
