1. What is happening, or has happened in Philippine Science and Technology?

The status of science and technology in the Philippines has been poor over the decades.
As a result, our country has not become research extensive because it is indeed frustrating to do
research with the state of equipment that we have. Even if there’s commitment in the part of
researchers and scientists, it would not matter if the resources are inadequate. Further, science
and technology has never been in the top priorities of the government and this truth will not be
covered just by any law they have provided. The budget for DOST is smaller compared to other
government agencies. With this practice, it just shows that people sitting on positions prioritize
their personal agenda rather than for the development of the whole country. This is also evident
in the privatization of public utilities. Meaning, private companies will be the one to earn. Public
service becomes second in line. Ultimately, because of the delayed development in science and
technology, Filipino-born researcher, scientists, and engineers leave their own country for a
better career in developed countries.
2. What is not happening but should be happening in the country's science and technology?
- Distribution of up-to-date technologies in different agencies of the government
focusing on the development of our country
- Adequate equipment in research and metrological laboratories
- Filipino engineers, scientists, and researchers stays in the country instead of
establishing career in other countries
- Local import of goods directly from Filipino farmers
- Agricultural Research and Development is not for private companies
- High economic status, agricultural sector
- Research extensive, provided with state-of-the-art facilities
- Filipinos do not remain to be assembling the machines imported from other
countries
- Progressive science and technology
