    The Storm Trapper HSE High Energy 5-Jaw Service ON ALL EXPOSED
    METAL SURFACES.

    Entrance MOV surge arrester is designed to provide


    overvoltage protection at 120/208 VAC service
    entrances. All protective components are housed in an
    industry standard meter socket adapter. This enclosure
    is designed for fast, safe, installation between the watt- CURRENT-LIMITING CURRENT-LIMITING

    CAUTION: This arrester should be installed


    only by personnel familiar with good safety
    practice and the handling of high-voltage electrical
    equipment. These instructions are not intended to
    supersede or replace existing safety and operating
    procedures. Where applicable, the requirements of

    CAUTION: Always handle surge arrester –


    packed or unpacked – very carefully. Do not
    drop, jar, or handle an arrester roughly. Dropping,
    jarring, and/or rough handling may damage the
    arrester internally and/or externally, making it
    incapable of adequately protecting the apparatus or
    circuit on which it is to be installed or it may shorten
    the service life of the arrester significantly.

    WARNING: Never install a damaged


    arrester. A damaged arrester may
    misoperate violently, causing severe personal injury
    and property damage.

    INSTALLATION IN A RINGLESS Step 2.


    METER SOCKET
    INSTALLING THE ARRESTER IN THE METER
    Step 1. SOCKET
    ■ To prevent accidental contact with energized parts, a
    service cutoff cap or the watt-hour meter should be

    meter socket jaws, making sure the arrester is fully
    seated.
    ■ Replace, close, and latch shut the meter socket cover.
    ■ Install and secure a new meter seal on the cover latch.

    Step 3. INSTALLATION IN A RING TYPE


    METER SOCKET
    RE-INSTALLING THE WATT-HOUR METER
    ■ Center the watt-hour meter over the Storm Trapper
    Step 1.
    HSE so the jaw blades are seated over the
    corresponding jaw openings of the arrester.
    ■ Firmly push the watt-hour meter into place so the REMOVAL OF WATT-HOUR METER FROM THE
    blades are fully inserted into the jaw openings of the METER SOCKET.
    ■ Remove the meter seal and locking ring that secures
    arrester.
    ■ Secure the watt-hour meter to the Storm Trapper the watt-hour meter to the meter socket.
    ■ Remove the watt-hour meter from the meter socket.
    HSE with a locking ring placed over the interface
    between the arrester and the meter.
    ■ Install and secure a new meter seal to the locking ring. Step 2.
    ■ Before leaving the site:
    – Verify that the arrester is functional by observing INSTALLING THE ARRESTER IN THE METER
    that the LED is illuminated. SOCKET.

    Step 3.
    RE-INSTALLING THE WATT-HOUR METER.
    ■ Center the watt-hour meter over the Storm Trapper
    HSE so the jaw blades are seated over the
    corresponding jaw openings of the arrester.
    ■ Firmly push the watt-hour meter into place so the
    blades are fully inserted into the jaw openings in the
    arrester.
    ■ Secure the watt-hour meter to the Storm Trapper
    HSE with a locking ring placed over the interface
    between the arrester and the meter.
    ■ Install and secure a new meter seal to the locking
    ring.
    ■ Before leaving the site:
    – Verify that the arrester is functional by observing
    that the LED is illuminated.
    – Verify that the watt-hour meter is operating.
    – Check that all meter seals are in place and secured.
