INTRODUCTION
Inspiration
Acting can be done by everyone no matter you like or not. Certain of the teenagers are said
the best when they act but only in certain situation. So I’m doing this project is because I
think not everyone can act spontaneous without being awkward. This is because some of
people don’t really know the basic on how to act and getting nervous easily on stage when
they try to act. This will lead to some mistake that will ruin the whole theatre. Some of the
people also always saying that they don’t know how to act. I’m saying this because it was
based on my experiences when we try to act on stage or when we try to act in front of the
camera. This made thinking on what way I should do to help them.

Global Context
The Global Context that I choose for my project is Personal and Cultural Expression. The
meaning of this Global Context is the ways we express something in a unique or creative
way. I'm choosing this Global Context because I’m going to show a creative way to learn
acting instead of taking class. I also think that this Global Context is important because it’s
gives us the ability to embrace other people who have different backgrounds on a deeper
level by sharing a passion for knowing more and participating in other culture's rituals,
observances, and holidays. We don’t know that in our daily life we already practice this
Global Context. What I’m trying to say here is that, this Global Context help us to express
something, doing something that we usually do in our daily life routine but in creative way.
CRITERION A : INVESTIGATING
What is acting and how to learn it?
Acting is an activity in which a story is told by means of its enactment by an actor or actress
who adopts a character in theatre, television, film, radio, or any other medium that makes
use of the mimetic mode. Acting involves a broad range of skills, including a well-
developed imagination, emotional facility, physical expressivity, vocal projection, clarity
of speech, and the ability to interpret drama. Acting also demands an ability to
employ dialects, accents, improvisation, observation and emulation, mime, and stage combat.
Many actors train at length in specialist programmes or colleges to develop these skills. The vast
majority of professional actors have undergone extensive training. Actors and actresses will often
have many instructors and teachers for a full range of training involving singing, scene-work,
audition techniques, and acting for camera.

Identifying a goal for my Personal Project


The goal that I have set for my personal project is to teach everyone on how to be an actor
to those who don’t know how to act. After searching more information about my personal
project by using research skills I have decided to make a guide video on how to be an actor
for those who don't know how to act especially when they are in front of the camera or on
the stage. I’m doing this project based on my knowledge and also my interest. The aim of my
project is for young people or teenagers. I will make a video on post it into social media such
as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or to the biggest website YouTube. By doing this, people
can search for my video and learn how to be an actor. 

Based on what I found, most people don’t really understand the video that they watch or
learn. This is based on my experience when I need to perform a theater on stage at school. I
watched a tutorial video on how to act but I cannot get what the person in the video is trying
to teach. As a teenager, I am pretty sure that not every teenager can understand what the
video is trying to teach. So I guess it is better if I make a guide video on how to act,
especially to teens which can make them understand it. But before I make the video, I give a
survey to my friends who are about the same age as me to answer it. This can help me on
what I can focus on in my guide video.

To make this project go smoothly also, I’m looking for videos on YouTube and searching in
the Google ways to be an actor. So, by searching, I gain information that is useful for my
project. By doing this project, I can improve my acting skill and also improve my speaking in
English comfortably. I also can improve my communication skill.

By my supervisor's guide, I know what I should put and say in my guide video that can help
many teenagers and younger people to learn. He also helps me with my various questions
and my acting. With the video, I can make a very good guide video that helps people instead
of them taking a class which is only a waste of money. It is also more fun to make a video
since teenagers nowadays are more likely to stay at home and watch various videos on
social media or YouTube. Moreover, it is very hard for us to go outside the house since it is
during the COVID-19 pandemic.
CRITERION B : PLANNING
Creating Criteria for My Project
I started my personal project on researching ways to act and how to control our face when
on stage or camera regarding its emotion. This is because based on the survey that I gave
to people most of them found it is difficult to control their face expression. I found several
information that I can use in my project that make me able to use it as one of the points in
my video. I also go ask my supervisor for advice since he is one of the theatre teachers in
college. All of my activities that I have done were recorded in my journal book. I also figured
out that the voice intonation should be controlled and practiced since some of the people
also admit that it's hard to practice those voice intonations. I also will

By doing this project, I found myself lacking in several things such as confidence and my
communication skill which is still at the lowest level. I also had a few self-management
issues which meant I needed to focus on my studies, school activity and the personal project
that I’m doing. I also have an issue which is I’m finding it hard to find my supervisor since he
and I were busy with personal activities that should be done. I also need to do my report and
at the same time do my journal. Other than that, we also go through a very big issue which is
the MCO started and makes it hard for us to make a meeting face to face. However, I was
able to learn to organize my time to make it easy to do my personal project. Other than that,
I also found myself starting to stop procrastinating and appreciate the time given. I also
contacted my supervisor a lot using the application WhatsApp so that I can show my
progress to him. By doing this, I was able to continue my project step by step without getting
interrupted by the issue that we face.
CRITERION C : TAKING ACTION
The main purpose of this project is exposing a unique way on how to learn acting for
teenagers. So after doing some research I finally able to started doing my product. At first it
wasn’t easy since there are many of guide video on how to learn to act. So, I work hard on
my video to make it effective to teenagers. I take a big risk by learning to act a long time ago
and overcome my low self-confidence. I played a very big role by learning everything and
teach everyone especially teenagers.

It wasn’t easy as I need to tell something to them in specific but simple way. This is because
teenagers easily to give up when they hear or watch something difficult. So I want to make it
simple yet entertaining to watch.

After compile everything in one file, I started to make the video. The information that I get is
from legal website and very helpful for me that make me succeed to make the guide video.
CRITERION D : REFLECTING
Evaluation of Product
I am satisfied and happy with the product that I have done for my project. I give a very good
point on my video that can help everyone who watch this video. I also got some compliment
and praise from them. My aim, which is the teenagers also give a very good feedback on my
video. Before I posted my video, I have checked every word that I need to explain and every
body language that I show on my video. This help me to avoid my video from being taking
down. I also make sure the information can be understood by the viewer so that there will be
no misunderstanding.

Knowledge and Understanding


After months doing this project, I think myself started to gain more confidence and got a new
knowledge on acting. I also think my communication skill started to get on one floor. At first, I
get this mind-set that saying acting is so easy so my project will be easier and the society
can acknowledge it easily. But as I keep on doing this project I have this thought that saying
maybe for me it was easy but what about the others? So I put more effort and look for more
information about my project. Even though, it took much energy I still want to help the
society especially teenagers who really love to act but don’t know how to act. I am pretty
sure that the product that I make can help the society especially the teenagers.

Skill as an IB Learner
The IB learner profile help me a lot in making this project since I need to do it in creative and
unique. The global context also helps me to understand more about the purpose of this
project. As an IB learner profile student, I applied one of the global context and 5 of the IB
learner profile which is knowledgeable, risk-taker, communicator, balanced and thinker. This
were applied when I looking for some information or asking my supervisor or friends about
their opinion on my project.
